Towards The Law Of Legal Services, Andrew M. Perlman
Towards The Law Of Legal Services, Andrew M. Perlman
Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works
Imagine that someone asks you how legal services are regulated in the United States. You might answer that lawyers need a license in the jurisdictions where they intend to practice, typically after graduating from an ABA-accredited law school and passing the bar examination. You could explain that lawyers are governed by rules of professional conduct and subject to discipline, including disbarment, for failing to comply. You also might mention the growing patchwork of state and federal regulations that govern lawyer behavior. Each of these answers offers a slightly different perspective on the regulation of legal services, but they share one …
A Behavioral Theory Of Legal Ethics, Andrew M. Perlman
A Behavioral Theory Of Legal Ethics, Andrew M. Perlman
Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works
Imagine a lawyer who discovers that a client has several smoking gun documents that will doom the client’s case if produced in discovery. Also assume the client tells the lawyer to use all lawful methods to avoid producing the information. Some legal ethicists argue that the lawyer should comply with the client’s instruction and pursue every permissible tactic, i.e., go right up to the line but not cross it. Critics of this so-called “dominant view” suggest that the lawyer should take into account other considerations, such as the interests of justice or morality. One important practical problem with these competing …
The Limits Of Moral Argument: Reason And Conviction In Tadros' Philosophy Of Punishment (With Response By Victor Tadros), Eric Blumenson, Victor Tadros
The Limits Of Moral Argument: Reason And Conviction In Tadros' Philosophy Of Punishment (With Response By Victor Tadros), Eric Blumenson, Victor Tadros
Suffolk University Law School Faculty Works
For generations, philosophers of punishment have sought to revise or combine established theories of punishment in a way that could reconcile the utilitarian aims of punishment with the demands of deontological justice. Victor Tadros’ recent work addresses the same problem, but answers it with an entirely original theory of punishment based on the duties criminals acquire by committing their crimes. The unexpected appearance of a new rationale for punishment has already inspired a robust dialogue between Tadros and his critics on many of the individual claims that, linked together, comprise his argument. This critique focuses instead on Tadros’ theory as …

The Transgenerational Effect Of Substance Abuse, Subira Brown
The Transgenerational Effect Of Substance Abuse, Subira Brown
Honors Theses
Using a survey conducted among college students at Andrews University, this study focused on substance use and sexual behaviors of students and the presence of familial substance use problems. Analysis indicated a significant association between substance use problems of fathers and their children's substance use. There was a stronger statistical association between father's substance use problems and male children's alcohol use. In addition there was a significant relationship between grandparents substance use and youth sexual behavior for both genders. There is a need for further analysis of this study.
Changing Attitudes Towards Sexual Orientation And The Effect Of Documentary Film, Michael Jon Vanderwaal
Changing Attitudes Towards Sexual Orientation And The Effect Of Documentary Film, Michael Jon Vanderwaal
Honors Theses
Attitudes towards LGBT people are shifting rapidly, with over half (51%) of the US population now favoring same-sex marriage. LGBT issues are also being hotly debated in the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) church. The purpose of this research is to examine how the film, Seventh-Gay Adventist (SGA) influences SDA college students' attitudes regarding homosexuality. My study compares attitude scores of students (N=46) using an experimental design with random assignment. Both the experimental group and the control group completed a commonly used Homosexuality Attitude Scale and modified version of Fulton's Adventists and LGB's survey at pretest and posttest. Results show that the …

Jack Sammons As Therapist, Jospeh Vining
Articles
Jack Sammons is well known as a pioneer in making the practice of law a field of academic study and teaching. He is also an original and penetrating analyst of law as such. This essay comments on his recent work, especially his putting the way we understand law and the way we understand music side by side and drawing out the parallels between them. Many will find his work a revelation.

TITLE: RECOVERY OF FORCE OUTPUT AND ELECTROMYOGRAPHY FROM TRUNK MUSCLES AFTER CYCLIC PASSIVE LOADING
Major Advisor: Michael W. Olson
Continuous loading of the low back tissues results in modified neuromuscular and kinetic output during trunk extension efforts. It is believed that the viscoelastic behavior of these low back tissues is modified, but the ramifications of these loading schemes needs further study for longer durations. The purpose of this research project was to observe force output and muscle activation pattern changes during …

Steroid Psychosis, History Of Corticosteroid Use And Associated Side Effects: Implications For Rehabilitation Counselors, Mark E. Yasaitis
Research Papers
Throughout the medical community, corticosteroid medications are widely used for the treatment of ailments ranging from inflammatory disorders such as arthritic conditions and spinal cord injuries, to skin conditions such eczema and psoriasis. Additional conditions could also include such disorders as inflammatory bowel disease. Also associated with corticosteroid treatments is the anabolic steroid family. These types of steroids are most commonly used for the enhancement of human tissues such as muscle growth associated with athletes referred to as performance enhancing drugs. Additionally, the use of diuretics, predominately in women, have a base of some type of steroid. For the users …
