Functional Integrity Of Resting-State Networks Predicts Seizure Outcome After Anterior Temporal Lobectomy, Gaelle Doucet, Xiaosong He, Michael R. Sperling, Ashwini Sharan Md, Joseph I. Tracy
Department of Neurosurgery Posters
Rationale
Predicting seizure outcome (SO) after anterior temporal lobectomy (ATL) is a major clinical goal. With clear evidence that even focal epilepsies disrupt large scale brain networks, resting-state functional connectivity (FC) methods have been increasingly used on a pre-surgical basis to characterize the impact of seizures on brain activity. In this project, we sought to determine whether the functional integrity of resting-state networks (RSNs) prior to surgery can discriminate between patients who obtain good versus poor seizure control after ATL.

Satureja biflora, known as "lemon savory", grows widely in Southern and Eastern parts of Africa. The plant has been used in Kenyan and Tanzanian traditional medicine as an antimicrobial, spasmolytic, diuretic, analgesic, and cicatrizing herb. Except for the composition of the essential oil no phytochemical data have been reported. Phytochemical profiling of the methanolic extract by a combination of chromatographic methods afforded nine phenolic compounds. Their structures were established by means of extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR, HRESI-MS, and electronic circular dichroism (ECD). One new and eight known natural products were isolated and identified, namely luteolin 7- O-β- d-glucuronide (1), 2″-caffeoyl-luteolin …

Foreign Policy Rhetoric In The 1992 Presidential Campaign: Bill Clinton’S Exceptionalist Jeremiad, Jason A. Edwards
Speaker & Gavel
This essay examines presidential candidate Bill Clinton’s rhetoric regarding America’s role in the world during the 1992 presidential campaign. Despite the fact that foreign policy was George H.W. Bush’s strength during the campaign, candidate Clinton was able to develop a coherent vision for America’s role in the world that he carried into his presidency. I argue he did so by fusing together the American exceptionalist missions of exemplar and intervention. In doing so, Clinton altered a tension embedded in debates over U.S. foreign policy rhetoric. To further differentiate his candidacy from President Bush, Clinton encased this discourse within a secular …
