The Prince Of Peace, John David Frizzell Dec 2015

The Prince Of Peace, John David Frizzell

The Catalyst

J began working on The Prince of Peace when I came to The University of Southern Mississippi in the fall of 2001. Before I began any composing, I read the first four books of the New Testament, which deal with the life of Jesus. I wrote down many of the verses I found to be important and began organizing a structure for a large-scale orchestral and choral work. I planned the work to be shorter in duration than most oratorios, such as Handel's Messiah. The short time the listener spends with the piece should have a profound impact and …

The Search For Consistent Achievement: Scheduling Methods And Their Effects On The At-Risk Rural High School, Marsha Thibodeaux Dec 2015

The Search For Consistent Achievement: Scheduling Methods And Their Effects On The At-Risk Rural High School, Marsha Thibodeaux

The Catalyst

At Varnado High School in Washington Parish, Louisiana, the 4x4 block has been in place for three years. In order to compare the two schedules, I obtained the Louisiana Department of Education's District Composite Report for Washington Parish. This report contains data concerning dropout rates and ACT scores from two traditionally scheduled school years (1995-1997), the year of 4x4-block implementation (1997-1998), and two years of the block (1998-2000).

More districts are relying on standardized test scores in order to determine a school's success; therefore, I also analyzed pass ing rates from the state-mandated Graduate Exit Examination (GEE) for the same …

Despite Best Intentions: A Critical Analysis Of Social Justice Leadership And Decision Making, David E. Dematthews, Angus Shiva Mungal, Paul A. Carrola

Administrative Issues Journal

The purpose of this article is to explore the relationship between social justice leadership and organizational decision making in order to make recommendations for how principals can make more socially just decisions in difficult school contexts. Then, rational choice theory is presented to detail key assumptions and criticisms that are associated with decision-making in complex organizations. Next, rational choice theory is utilized as a straw man for analyzing principal decision-making in complex organizations …

Refining Our Understanding Of Howiesons Poort Lithic Technology: The Evidence From Grey Rocky Layer In Sibudu Cave (Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa), Paloma De La Peña Dec 2015

Refining Our Understanding Of Howiesons Poort Lithic Technology: The Evidence From Grey Rocky Layer In Sibudu Cave (Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa), Paloma De La Peña

KIP Articles

The detailed technological analysis of the youngest Howiesons Poort occupation in Sibudu Cave, layer Grey Rocky, has shown the importance of blade production (with different knapping methods involved), but also of flaking methods in coarse grained rock types. Moreover, new strategies of bifacial production and microlithism were important. Grey Rocky lithic technology shows a really versatile example of reduction strategies that were highly influenced by the characteristics of the rock types. This lithic assemblage is another example of the technological variability linked to the Howiesons Poort technocomplex. The reasons for this variability are still difficult to elucidate. Discrepancies between sites …

Standardised Testing In Compulsory Schooling In England And Denmark: A Comparative Study And Analysis, K Andreasen, P Kelly, K Kousholt, E Mcness, C Ydesen

Plymouth Institute of Education

Within education, national testing is flourishing and, considering the important role which assessment plays in the production and reproduction of culture, it is important to examine further the possible impact of such practice. While England has a long tradition of national educational testing, Denmark, in contrast, has only recently introduced such tests. Thus the two countries present excellent cases for comparison and analysis in order to gain knowledge about the possible consequences of such testing schemes on pedagogy and the content of the school curriculum, as well as the impact they may have on pupils' perceptions of their potential academic …

Creating Healthy Schools: Identifying The Positive Impacts Of Practicing Sustainable Interior Design In Education Facilities, Deborah Lindsey Ketchum Dec 2015

Creating Healthy Schools: Identifying The Positive Impacts Of Practicing Sustainable Interior Design In Education Facilities, Deborah Lindsey Ketchum

Architecture Masters of Science Program: Theses

A significant amount of research identifies a relationship between the physical environment of educational facilities and how the design can positively or negatively impact teachers, staff and students. Evidence indicates that America’s school facilities are outdated, decaying, and need repair. This presents an opportunity for interior design professionals to create high-quality learning environments through an emphasis on sustainable design practices.

This thesis examines interior spaces of two high school buildings in North Mississippi. Site A incorporated sustainable design principles while Site B did not. To limit influential variables, the two sites were selected because of the location and similar population …
