A Cross-Cultural Study On Consumers' Sentiments Of The Marketing Mix Variables And Consumers' Perceptions Toward Marketing Ethics, Ghensy Antoine
A Cross-Cultural Study On Consumers' Sentiments Of The Marketing Mix Variables And Consumers' Perceptions Toward Marketing Ethics, Ghensy Antoine
Graduate Student Dissertations, Theses, Capstones, and Portfolios
Marketing ethics continues to be viewed as tampered by unethical practices. This cross-cultural quantitative research surveys 186 consumers in the New Orleans Metropolitan area to gain insights into their perceptions of marketing ethics. The predictive ability of consumers' demographic variables, cultural dimensions, and sentiments toward marketing mix elements vis-a-vis their perceptions of marketing ethics are explored, as well as significant differences within these dominant constructs.
The study integrates a conceptual framework blended with Hofstede's cultural dimensions, McCarthy's marketing mix, and the Hunt-Vitell's general theory of marketing ethics. Psychometric characteristics of the instruments were confirmed through exploratory factor analyses. Results show …

Tour Guides And The Mediation Of Difficult Memories: The Case Of Dublin Castle, Ireland, Bernadette Quinn, Theresa Ryan
Tour Guides And The Mediation Of Difficult Memories: The Case Of Dublin Castle, Ireland, Bernadette Quinn, Theresa Ryan
Articles
This research seeks to furthering understandings of how Tour Guides interpret memories at heritage sites when the memories at issue are difficult yet subtle and not always apparent to tourists. Specifically, it explores how Dublin Castle, formerly the seat of British rule in Ireland, is captured in narratives presented to tourists that often include Britons. Representing the site is made challenging because some visitors have little knowledge of the site's history, while others are well informed and hold strong political views. The findings show that Guides select largely depoliticized narratives, strongly influenced by their personal interests and experiences. Some hint …

"Shes American Now, I Dont Like That": Gendered Language Ideologies In A Laotian American Community, Daryl Gordon
Journal of Southeast Asian American Education and Advancement
As gender identities have shifted within the Laotian American community, perceptions of English proficiency have emerged as a site in which complex ideologies about gender identity are explored and contested. While Laotian women experience expanded opportunities for enacting their gender identities through wage labor and access to education, Laotian men experience a narrowing of opportunities, having lost traditional sources of power such as land ownership and high status professions. Laotian mens enactment of a discourse of nostalgia and the development of language ideologies, specifically the belief that they are more proficient English speakers than women, play an important part in …
The Western Way: Democracy And The Media Assistance Model, Daire Higgins
The Western Way: Democracy And The Media Assistance Model, Daire Higgins
Articles
International media assistance took off during a time where the ideological extremes of USA vs. USSR were set to disappear. Following the Cold War, international relations focused on democracy building, and nurturing independent media was embraced as a key part of this strategy. Fukayama called it the ‘End of History’, the fact that all other ideologies had fallen and Western style democracy was set to become the one common ideology. The US and UK led the way in media assistance, with their liberal ideas of a free press, bolstered by free market capitalism. America was the superpower, and forged the …

Cultural And Religious Identities In An Era Of Information And Communications Globalization, M R. Neyestani, Pat Mcinturff
Communications of the IIMA
The rapid advances in information and communication technologies coupled with the dominant overarching Neo-liberal/capitalist ideological underpinnings of the dominant Western powers have generated a momentum towards a homogeneous global village. The impact of which has been to expand World conflict and propelled many nations towards losing their national identity and traditions. This article discusses the various impacts from IT globalization and calls for a new global communication awareness.
Knowledge Management And The Nigerian Culture – A Round Peg In A Square Hole?, Adeola Bamgboje-Ayodele, Leonie Ellis
Knowledge Management And The Nigerian Culture – A Round Peg In A Square Hole?, Adeola Bamgboje-Ayodele, Leonie Ellis
The African Journal of Information Systems
Knowledge Management (KM) is a key strategy which many organizations have been leveraging upon because of its potential in achieving competitive advantage. However, factors such as the national culture can impact the efficacy of this strategy. Hence, the aim of this paper is to provide insight into how Nigerian culture influences organizational culture, which in turn influences KM practices in Nigerian organizations. Based on a post-positivist stance, this research employs a descriptive survey approach for the data collection and analysis while also incorporating Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. The findings suggest that the hierarchical nature of the society in Nigeria supports centralized …
Exploring Culture-Specific Learning Styles In Accounting Education, Seth E. Sikkema, Joshua Sauerwein
Exploring Culture-Specific Learning Styles In Accounting Education, Seth E. Sikkema, Joshua Sauerwein
Faculty Publications - College of Business
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to review whether culture affects accounting students’ learning processes to identify practical guidance for accounting educators facing a culturally diverse classroom. In spite of a significant literature thread in accounting education on student learning, relatively, little emphasis has been placed on culture-specific learning differences. The literature gap is particularly acute with respect to practical culture-specific guidance for accounting educators. This paper is organized along three primary inquiries into the role of culture in accounting education: first, do we know if culture impacts learning? Second, how much do we know about culture-specific learning …

The endocannabinoid 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) is a retrograde lipid messenger that modulates synaptic function, neurophysiology, and behavior. 2-AG signaling is terminated by enzymatic hydrolysis—a reaction that is principally performed by monoacylglycerol lipase (MAGL). MAGL is broadly expressed throughout the nervous system, and the contributions of different brain cell types to the regulation of 2-AG activityin vivo remain poorly understood. Here, we genetically dissect the cellular anatomy of MAGL-mediated 2-AG metabolism in the brain and show that neurons and astrocytescoordinately regulate 2-AG content and endocannabinoid-dependent forms of synaptic plasticity and behavior. We also find that astrocytic MAGL is mainly responsible …

The Understanding Of Romance In Audiences Of 50 Shades Of Grey, Beatriz Elena Inzunza-Acedo
