Gardner-Webb Grad Awarded Fulbright Fellowship For Dung Beetle Research In New Zealand, Office Of University Communications
Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive
Most people don’t stop to ponder the lowly dung beetle, but Gardner-Webb University graduate Matt Jones (’09) has spent the last five years collecting and observing these little creatures. It’s a dirty job that only a serious scientist could enjoy, but his research on nature’s “cleanup crew” has earned him a prestigious Fulbright Award to study the introduction of dung beetles in New Zealand. “Receiving a Fulbright Fellowship means so much to me, because it’s such a competitive fellowship program,” Jones reflected.

Tutoring As An Elementary Reading Intervention To Benefit Bilingual Learners In Mexico, Hannah Marie Paulson
School of Education and Leadership Student Capstone Theses and Dissertations
The research question addressed in this capstone project is, can peer tutoring be used as an effective elementary reading intervention to benefit bilingual learners in Mexico? Key influence for this capstone was the author’s observation of a lack of effective reading interventions in bilingual environments. The study is a qualitative study in which the author implemented a seven-week peer tutoring training with nineteen fifth grade tutors. These peer tutors each worked one on one with a fourth grade student to apply specific reading strategies. The goal of the capstone was to determine whether peer tutors could positively affect student outcomes …

The subject invention provides a myricanol compound that is in predominant form of (+)-αR,11S-myricanol as compared to (−)-αS,11R-myricanol. In one embodiment, the (+)-αR,11S-myricanol is isolated from Myrica cerifera, and is in about 86% enantiomeric excess of (−)-αS,11R-myricanol. The subject invention also pertains to therapeutic compositions and methods for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, in particular, neurodegenerative diseases associated with abnormal accumulation of protein tau. Specifically exemplified herein is the therapeutic use of myricanol and myricanone isolated from root barks of Myrica species. Also provided are methods for preparing extracts of the subject invention from Myrica species.

Honors Projects
The Honors College Participation Program is a program that was implemented within the Bowling Green State University Honors College. The purpose of this program was to connect students to honors faculty and staff, motivate students to attend events and serve in leadership positions, and encourage a sense of community within the Honors College. The program had a set of points assigned to different activities and as students would attend events and complete activities they were awarded points. Once a student reached a certain threshold of points, they would be awarded prizes. My project focused on creating a portal in which …
