Working With Embroideries And Counter-Maps: Engaging Memory And Imagination Within Decolonizing Frameworks, Puleng Segalo, Einat Manoff, Michelle Fine
Publications and Research
As people around the world continue to have their voices, desires, and movements restricted, and their pasts and futures told on their behalf, we are interested in the critical project of decolonizing, which involves contesting dominant narratives and hegemonic representations. Ignacio Martín - Baró called these the “collective lies” told about people and politics. This essay reflects within and across two sites of injustice, located in Israel/Palestine and in South Africa, to excavate the circuits of structural violence, internalized colonization and possible reworking of those toward resistance that can be revealed within the stubborn particulars of place, history, and culture. …

Neuroimmune And Neuropathic Responses Of Spinal Cord And Dorsal Root Ganglia In Middle Age, William Galbavy, Martin Kaczocha, Michelino Puopolo, Mario Rebecchi
Department of Anesthesiology Faculty Publications
Prior studies of aging and neuropathic injury have focused on senescent animals compared to young adults, while changes in middle age, particularly in the dorsal root ganglia (DRG), have remained largely unexplored. 14 neuroimmune mRNA markers, previously associated with peripheral nerve injury, were measured in multiplex assays of lumbar spinal cord (LSC), and DRG from young and middle-aged (3, 17 month) naïve rats, or from rats subjected to chronic constriction injury (CCI) of the sciatic nerve (after 7 days), or from aged-matched sham controls. Results showed that CD2, CD3e, CD68, CD45, TNF-α, IL6, CCL2, ATF3 and TGFβ1 mRNA levels were …

METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: The experimental infection of dogs with TriGAS induced high levels of VNA in the serum, whereas wt RABV infection did not. Dogs infected with TriGAS developed antibodies against the virus including its glycoprotein, whereas dogs infected with DRV-NG11 only developed rabies antibodies that are presumably specific for the nucleoprotein, (N) and not the glycoprotein (G). We show that infection with TriGAS induces early activation of B cells in the draining lymph nodes and persistent activation of DCs and B cells in the blood. On the other hand, infection with DRV-NG11 fails to induce the activation of DCs and …

Influence Of Gas-To-Liquid Fuel In The Combined Blends Of Biodiesel-Diesel / Sajjad Hossain, Hossain Sajjad
Influence Of Gas-To-Liquid Fuel In The Combined Blends Of Biodiesel-Diesel / Sajjad Hossain, Hossain Sajjad
Student Works (2010-2019)
Energy security concerns and environmental sustainability issues have been increasing with the growth of civilization, which have developed the urge to increase energy efficiency with a diminution in environmental pollution. These situation have stimulated the researchers to focus on the alternative transportation fuels like Gas-to-liquid (GTL) fuel and biodiesel. GTL fuel is produced from Fischer–Tropsch synthesis and consists of some distinctive characteristics such as its paraffinic nature, very low sulfur and aromatic contents and a high cetane number. It can be used as an alternative to diesel and also with the blends of diesel and bio-diesel. Biodiesels are mono-alkyl esters …
Targeted Transplantation Of Mitochondria To Liver Cells, Nidhi Gupta
Targeted Transplantation Of Mitochondria To Liver Cells, Nidhi Gupta
Doctoral Dissertations
Hepatocyte damage caused by genetic and acquired defects in mitochondria can result in severe liver dysfunction causing disease and death. Mammalian hepatocytes possess specific receptors on their surfaces called asialoglycoprotein receptors (AsGRs), which can recognize and bind asialoglycoproteins (AsGs). After binding, AsGs are internalized by receptor-mediated endocytosis within membrane-limited vesicles, endosomes, which ultimately fuse with lysosomes resulting in degradation. This pathway represents a natural mechanism by which substances outside cells can gain access to the interior of liver cells. In the past, small molecules have been bound to AsGs to deliver them specifically to the liver. The aim of this …

Call To Resistance: A Review Of Denzin And Giardina’Squalitative Inquiry: Past, Present, & Future, Paul Rhodes
The Qualitative Report
This book is a compendium of papers presented at the International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry from 2005 to the present. It serves as a call to arms for critical researchers, to engage deeply with theory and praxis, directing their efforts against our conservative neo-liberal culture. The book is suitable for academics and students alike and will not disappoint in its capacity to perturb and challenge.
Effects Of Life History Strategies On Annual Events And Processes In The Lives Of Tidal Marsh Sparrows, Alyssa C. Borowske
Effects Of Life History Strategies On Annual Events And Processes In The Lives Of Tidal Marsh Sparrows, Alyssa C. Borowske
Doctoral Dissertations
I investigated ways in which events and processes within the annual cycle of migratory birds differ between the sexes of individual species, and between two closely-related species with different breeding systems. Specifically, I compared male and female Saltmarsh Sparrows (Ammodramus caudacutus), which are highly promiscuous, non-territorial, and have female-only care, and Seaside Sparrows (A. maritimus), which are socially monogamous, territorial, and have bi-parental care, to investigate how differential life histories influence: 1) the timing of migration and molt events; 2) feather quality and condition throughout the year; 3) within-season body condition and survival during summer and …
Evaluative Measures: Assessing The Effectiveness Of Exhibits And Programs In Zoos, Drew Johnson
Evaluative Measures: Assessing The Effectiveness Of Exhibits And Programs In Zoos, Drew Johnson
Theses
This thesis examines program and exhibition evaluation as pertaining to zoos and aquariums in the United States from the 1960’s to the present. Research conducted for this thesis focuses on the design, implementation, and evaluation of zoological programs and exhibitions. Also examined are studies of zoo and aquarium visitors related to audience research, informal learning, and psychographics. Case studies as well as published procedural and evaluative methods from zoos and aquariums across the United States are used to identify best practices. In addition, two evaluation tool kits are presented to assist the Seneca Park Zoo with evaluative measures for exhibits …
