A Prospective Highlight On Exosomal Nanoshuttles And Cancer Immunotherapy And Vaccination., Mohammad Rafi, Yadollah Omidi
A Prospective Highlight On Exosomal Nanoshuttles And Cancer Immunotherapy And Vaccination., Mohammad Rafi, Yadollah Omidi
Department of Neurology Faculty Papers
INTRODUCTION: Exosomes (EXOs) and ectosomes (ECTOs) are nanoscale membranous extracellular vesicles (EVs) derived from different cells mediating various cellular communications. EXOs are liberated based on the exocytosis of multivesicular bodies, while ECTOs are ubiquitously released from the plasma membranes.
METHODS: Here, in this paper, we go over the extracellular vesicular machineries and concisely highlight their clinical importance in solid tumors and their possible applications in cancer immunotherapy/vaccination.
RESULTS: In various types of cancers, these vesicles play central roles delivering cancer cell messages to the target cells, as a result both of them seem to provide a novel useful means for …

Art, Attention, And Consciousness: An Experiment In Experiential Painting, Ben Drewry, Johannes Kohler
Art, Attention, And Consciousness: An Experiment In Experiential Painting, Ben Drewry, Johannes Kohler
Kaleidoscope
A “transformation of perception” is investigated by looking both at the interrelationship among art, attention, and consciousness and by looking into their common origin. The role attention plays in consciousness is considered. A new model of consciousness is summarized that claims that attention is the primary factor in creating consciousness, and posits a prereflective self prior to all perceptual experience. This model is compared to states of pure consciousness described by Eastern sages, and the role attention plays in achieving those states is examined. Our experiment in experiential painting is described, and we then attempt to tie together the three …
The Study Of Plga Drug Delivery Systems: Implications For Management Of Crohn’S Disease, Christin Pramudiati
The Study Of Plga Drug Delivery Systems: Implications For Management Of Crohn’S Disease, Christin Pramudiati
Kaleidoscope
The purpose of this research is to develop biodegradable drug delivery systems. One of the delivery systems that we have developed is a suture-like structure for the treatment of Crohn’s disease that utilizes a biodegradable polymer, poly(DL-lactideco-glycolide) acid (PLGA). Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel condition. Aside from the gut involvement, perianal complications develop in the form of enterocutaneous fistulas. Medical management of Crohn’s disease consists of various drugs with immunosuppressive properties. Complicated disease manifestation requires surgical interventions in the form of bowel resection or fistula drainage with Setons. Setons are suture-like devices that help to drain associated abscesses and …

The Anchor: 2015
The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.
Dynamics Of Thermally Induced Ice Streams Simulated With A Higher-Order Flow Model, Douglas Brinkerhoff, Jesse Johnson
Dynamics Of Thermally Induced Ice Streams Simulated With A Higher-Order Flow Model, Douglas Brinkerhoff, Jesse Johnson
Computer Science Faculty Publications
We use a new discretization technique to solve the higher-order thermomechanically coupled equations of glacier evolution. We find that under radially symmetric continuum equations, small perturbations in symmetry due to the discretization are sufficient to produce the initiation of non-symmetric thermomechanical instabilities which we interpret as ice streams, in good agreement with previous studies which have indicated a similar instability. We find that the inclusion of membrane stresses regularizes the size of predicted streams, eliminating the ill-posedness evident in previous investigations of ice stream generation through thermomechanical instability. Ice streams exhibit strongly irregular periodicity which is influenced by neighboring ice …

Remediation Of Childhood Math Anxiety And Associated Neural Circuits Through Cognitive Tutoring, Kaustubh Supekar, Teresa Iuculano, Lang Chen, Vinod Menon
Remediation Of Childhood Math Anxiety And Associated Neural Circuits Through Cognitive Tutoring, Kaustubh Supekar, Teresa Iuculano, Lang Chen, Vinod Menon
Psychology
Math anxiety is a negative emotional reaction that is characterized by feelings of stress and anxiety in situations involving mathematical problem solving. High math-anxious individuals tend to avoid situations involving mathematics and are less likely to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math-related careers than those with low math anxiety. Math anxiety during childhood, in particular, has adverse long-term consequences for academic and professional success. Identifying cognitive interventions and brain mechanisms by which math anxiety can be ameliorated in children is therefore critical. Here we investigate whether an intensive 8 week one-to-one cognitive tutoring program designed to improve mathematical skills reduces …
The Effects Of Sexual Victimization History, Sexual Attitudes, And Psychopathology On Women's Responses To Increasingly Coercive Sexual And Nonsexual Social Situations, Erica Nason
Psychology ETDs
This study evaluated the effects of a sexual victimization history, psychopathology, and sexual attitudes on the effectiveness of womens responses to increasingly coercive sexual victimization risk and nonsexual social situation vignettes. One hundred undergraduate women listened to a description of each situation, viewed clips of a male actor making increasingly coercive verbal requests, and provided a videotaped, verbal response to each request given by the actor in each situation. Participants then completed measures assessing sexual victimization history, psychopathology, and sexual attitudes. Experts in the sexual violence research area and undergraduate men rated the effectiveness of participants' responses to the series …

Differential Expression Of Mrna Encoding Cytokines And Chemokines In The Reproductive Tract After Infection Of Mice With Chlamydia Trachomatis, Katheryn L. Cerny, Maranda Van Fleet, Anatoly Slepenkin, Ellena M. Peterson, Phillip J. Bridges
Animal and Food Sciences Faculty Publications
Infection with Chlamydia trachomatis targets epithelial cells within the genital tract which respond by secreting chemokines and cytokines. Persistent inflammation can lead to fibrosis, tubal infertility and/or ectopic pregnancy; many infections are asymptomatic. Most studies have investigated the inflammatory response in the initial stages of infection, less is known about the later stages of infection, especially with a low, potentially asymptomatic, bacterial load. Our objective was to determine the inflammatory mediators involved in clearance of low-grade infection and the potential involvement in chronic inflammation. Six to eight week old C3H/HeJ mice were pretreated with 2.5 mg medroxyprogesterone acetate on day …

A Historical Comparison Of Heifer Replacement Costs, Matthew C. Stockton, Roger K. Wilson
Cornhusker Economics
The value of heifer replacements is an interesting question which is affected by time (e. g. future cattle prices), animal longevity and the individual production and management system of the cow-calf producer. If we ignore the differences among producers we can study the effects that price and longevity have on the net value of replacement animals.

Divergent Thinking In Disaster: Examples From Typhoon Haiyan Survivors, P Cajilig, Ds Maranan
Divergent Thinking In Disaster: Examples From Typhoon Haiyan Survivors, P Cajilig, Ds Maranan
School of Art, Design and Architecture
In this presentation, delivered at Off the Lip 2015 at Plymouth University, we shared some of the ethnographic research on the creative and cognitive work needed to survive the high-stakes, high-stress, and emotionally charged situation of a disaster, in which “divergent thinking” is more just than a cognitive process: it becomes a survival skill. The presentation centred on a series of narratives based on our experiences of conducting fieldwork in the province of Leyte in the Philippines on December 2013, six weeks after Typhoon Haiyan decimated the Visayas region of one of most typhoon-prone countries in the world.
