Background: Lack of effective vaccines and therapeutics for important arboviral diseases such as Rift Valley fever (RVF) and dengue, necessitates continuous monitoring of vector populations for infections in them. Plant-based lures as surveillance tools has the potential of targeting mosquitoes of both sexes and females of varied physiological states; yet such lures are lacking for vectors of these diseases. Here, we present evidence of the effectiveness of linalool oxide (LO), a single plant-based lure previously developed for malaria vectors in trapping RVF vectors, Aedes mcintoshi and Aedes ochraceus, and dengue vector, Aedes aegypti. Methods: For RVF vectors, we used CDC …

Propagated Infra-Slow Intrinsic Brain Activity Reorganizes Across Wake And Slow Wave Sleep, Anish Mitra, Abraham Z. Snyder, Enzo Tagliazucchi, Helmut Laufs, Marcus E. Raichle
Open Access Publications
Propagation of slow intrinsic brain activity has been widely observed in electrophysiogical studies of slow wave sleep (SWS). However, in human resting state fMRI (rs-fMRI), intrinsic activity has been understood predominantly in terms of zero-lag temporal synchrony (functional connectivity) within systems known as resting state networks (RSNs). Prior rs-fMRI studies have found that RSNs are generally preserved across wake and sleep. Here, we use a recently developed analysis technique to study propagation of infra-slow intrinsic blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) signals in normal adults during wake and SWS. This analysis reveals marked changes in propagation patterns in SWS vs. wake. …
Modeling Alphabet Skills As Instructive Feedback Within A Phonological Awareness Curriculum, Arnold Olszewski
Modeling Alphabet Skills As Instructive Feedback Within A Phonological Awareness Curriculum, Arnold Olszewski
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This study investigated the use of instructive feedback for modeling early literacy skills. Instructive feedback is defined as the presentation of additional information during the positive feedback phase of learner trials. Thus, it is a way of modeling additional information when students respond to a trial correctly. Previous studies have demonstrated that instructive feedback can facilitate students’ observational learning of skills, such as sight words, numerals, and vocabulary. Instructive feedback has yet to be investigated when modeling early literacy skills.
A modified version of an evidence-based early literacy intervention, PAth to Literacy, was used. Studies examining the efficacy of …

Covenant, Kingship, Grace, Sacrifice, And Prophetism In The Old Testament, Rickie S. Scott
Covenant, Kingship, Grace, Sacrifice, And Prophetism In The Old Testament, Rickie S. Scott
The Kabod
This essay examines the major themes of covenant, kingship, grace, sacrifice, and prophetism that reoccur throughout the Old Testament and contribute to a proper understanding of the ancient biblical text. Through covenant, God reveals his divine nature and relates to his people. Through kingship, God reveals his plan for Israel. Through grace, God loves his chosen people and shows them mercy, and through sacrifice, God cleanses and sanctifies the Israelites. Finally, through prophetism, God discloses his divine calling for the Israelites. Each of these themes exposes God’s self-revelation and contributes to an enhanced understanding of the Old Testament.

Water in the World: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Access and Sustainability
Every odd-year in March, from 2005-2015, the Río Lagarto, Costa Rica has been surveyed by students in Tropical Watersheds and Coastal Ecology. The Río Lagarto originates at approximately 1,500 m in the Monteverde cloudforest region of the Cordillera de Tilarán and steeply descends toward the Pacific coast discharging into the mangrove forests bordering the Gulf of Nicoya. This small Pacific slope river is the western-most of the three rivers, along with their watersheds, that define the Bellbird Biological Corridor. The Bellbird Biological Corridor is a long-term community-based effort to restore natural forest cover to a largely deforested terrain. This reforestation …

Labeled-Image Captcha: Concept Of A Secured And Universally Useful Captcha, Mokter Hossain, Ken Nguyen, Muhammad Asadur Rahman
UBT International Conference
Captcha (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) is a widely used online security tool that ensures that a computer program is not posing as a human user. While smart programs with advanced image processing capability have already cracked picture based captcha systems there is a need for making the test harder. This paper presents a design prototype of a simplified type of labeled-image captcha where a picture of a common animal or household item is marked with a number of different labels and the users will be asked to provide the correct label for specific …

Culture is one of the greatest assets of a country, and it has the potential to become a source of income, if it is managed effectively. The handcrafts of the Albanian artisanry are a part of our culture, but still far from having an effective role in the development of tourism. Associating artisanry with tourism is of great interest for the present, as well as the future of the Region of Shkodra, and studies to this end are important. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of the growth of tourism in the increase of sale of handcrafts. …

Requirements for exploitation of renewable energy have occupied a special place in the world of developed technology; they carry in themselves the hope of a viable advanced possibility towards sustainable development. Kosovo has a favorable geographical position and favorable climate conditions for utilization of solar energy. Solar energy is a promising energy source of the future and it’s use represents potential, since it is an inexhaustible natural source of energy, is the largest natural reserves of energy that is distributed throughout the world in quantities greater than our energy needs; is clean and it’s use requires no additional cost, as …

Metaphysical Dialogue Between Philosophy And Music In Ancient Greek, Sunaj Raimi
UBT International Conference
The main idea of this scientific lecture will be a comparative analysis of the essential similarities between the philosophical culture and musical art in ancient Greece. The processing of this study will remain in different historical periods where philosophy, known as more sophisticated technique of the human thought together with the musical creativity as the art of the Muses in ontological aspect, will be sublimated in a common denominator. As it’s known, the substance of music as spiritual human creativity has always been and remains - an “intimate “ matter of p hilosop hy , just as philosophy has always …

Culture Shifting At Warp Speed: How The Law, Public Engagement, And Will & Grace Led To Social Change For Lgbt People, Stacey L. Sobel
St. John's Law Review
(Excerpt)
This Article concludes that in order for culture shifting to occur, there has to be active engagement in advocacy on multiple fronts. The pace of cultural change would have been significantly slower if advocates had not pursued litigation, legislation, and public engagement strategies. Rule shifting and culture shifting would also have occurred more slowly but for the vigorous efforts of LGBT equality opponents. The competing advocacy efforts on both sides of LGBT issues have resulted in lawsuits and laws limiting the rights of the LGBT community in some instances and granting rights in others. These advocacy efforts created a …
