Employee Engagement: What Is It And How Do We Go About It?, R. Abu Bakar
Research Publications (2011 to 2015)
Although numerous scholars has improved our understanding of the implications of engagement, relatively little attention has been paid to its conceptual definition. This paper provides a conceptual review of its definition and examined the contextual characteristics that define engagement. Specifically, the paper discusses some debatable meaning of engagement that yields inconsistent views from scholars. Based on the review, this paper found that engagement focuses upon the positive and fulfilling aspects of doing work. For a person to be engaged, he or she must be vigorous, dedicated and absorbed in their job. This positive reflection is in line with the movement …

Microanalysis Of Polymer Chain Diffusion In Heat Seals, Russell Cooper
Microanalysis Of Polymer Chain Diffusion In Heat Seals, Russell Cooper
All Theses
Heat sealing is an integral method for the closure and protection of packaging. Previous work has shown that seal strength is developed by the interdiffusion of polymer chains within heat seals. Heat seals were made between two dissimilar materials. Poly(ethylene-co-acrylic acid) (EAA) was heat sealed to ionomer. Diffusion within the EAA-ionomer heat seals was estimated. The diffusion estimates were then related to resulting seal strength in the EAA-ionomer sealant system. Heated tooling sealing was utilized to make heat seals at 40 psi (275.79 kPa), 0.5 seconds, and a range of temperatures between 180˚F (82.22˚C) and 300˚F (148.89˚C). Scanning electron microscopy …

Inlay Vs. Onlay: A Comparison Of Two Glenoid Systems In Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, Sarah Helms
Inlay Vs. Onlay: A Comparison Of Two Glenoid Systems In Total Shoulder Arthroplasty, Sarah Helms
All Theses
Loosening of the glenoid component via a 'rocking horse' phenomenon, whereby the glenoid loosens as a result of edge loading of the implant during mild off-axis motion, is a common complication of total shoulder arthroplasties (TSAs). Recently, a partial glenoid resurfacing implant, known as a glenoid inlay, has become available and due to its geometry has the potential to exhibit less rocking-horse loosening during humeral articulation than the standard glenoid onlay systems currently used in TSA. The inlay design is implanted centrally on the glenoid to match the surrounding anatomy with a fit that leaves it flush with the surrounding …

Promoting Innovation While Preventing Discrimination: Policy Goals For The Scored Society, Frank Pasquale, Danielle Keats Citron
Washington Law Review
Professor Zarsky’s response is an erudite and thoughtful analysis of the discrimination concerns raised by our article, The Scored Society. We particularly appreciate his connection of themes in our article with literature on discrimination law. This historical awareness and theoretical sophistication demonstrates the deep continuity between our concerns and those of other legal scholars. Professor Zarsky has led us to realize that there are in fact several normative theories of jurisprudence supporting our critique of the scored society, which complement the social theory and political economy presented in our article. In this response, we clarify our antidiscrimination argument while …

This Article draws out several antidiscrimination paradigms which on their face pertain to the dynamics discussed in The Scored Society, and big data in general. Such analysis allows for recognizing which discrimination-based concerns are especially acute in the scored society, as well as setting forth initial proposed responses for mitigating them, when possible. The Article proceeds as follows: after a brief Introduction mapping the confines of the debate and summarizing Professor Citron and Pasquale’s contributions, the Article moves to Part I, where it generally addresses the notion of “discrimination” and its relevance to the issue at hand. Part II—the heart …

Amended Complaints Post-Twiqbal: Why Litigants Should Still Get A Second Bite At The Pleading Apple, Dane Westermeyer
Washington Law Review
The Supreme Court’s landmark decisions in Bell Atlantic Corp. v. Twombly and Ashcroft v. Iqbal have had a serious effect on the way that Rule 12(b)(6) Motions to Dismiss are handled in federal courts across the country. In the five years since Iqbal was handed down, scholars and practitioners alike have discussed the merits and effects of this decision at length. However, there has been very little—if any—discussion on the relationship between amended complaints and original complaints when it comes to this newly-minted plausibility standard. This Comment aims to examine and critique a post-Twiqbal practice regarding amended complaints that …
