Tall Fescue Seed Extraction And Partial Purification Of Ergot Alkaloids, Huihua Ji, Franklin Fannin, J. Klotz, Lowell P. Bush
Tall Fescue Seed Extraction And Partial Purification Of Ergot Alkaloids, Huihua Ji, Franklin Fannin, J. Klotz, Lowell P. Bush
Kentucky Tobacco Research and Development Center Faculty Publications
Many substances in the tall fescue/endophyte association (Schedonorus arundinaceus/Epichloë coenophiala) have biological activity. Of these compounds only the ergot alkaloids are known to have significant mammalian toxicity and the predominant ergot alkaloids are ergovaline and ergovalinine. Because synthetically produced ergovaline is difficult to obtain, we developed a seed extraction and partial purification protocol for ergovaline/ergovalinine that provided a biologically active product. Tall fescue seed was ground and packed into several different sized columns for liquid extraction. Smaller particle size and increased extraction time increased efficiency of extraction. Our largest column was a 114 × 52 × …
An Evidence-Based Approach To A Replacement Hospital Training Curriculum, Mark D. Beck
An Evidence-Based Approach To A Replacement Hospital Training Curriculum, Mark D. Beck
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Projects
Creation of a training and educational curriculum for a new or replacement facility is daunting in its own right, but without a repository of organizational knowledge cataloging the transfer of tacit to explicit knowledge from the organizations previous library of facility openings, the task becomes Herculean, with as many tasks and cast of characters as the original myths. Navigating the shoals, eddies and tides of the various aspects of this project revealed the need for a comprehensive knowledge management solution to training that is coupled with healthcare design principles and initiatives. This purpose of the DNP project is about the …

The T2K off-axis near detector ND280 is used to make the first differential cross-section measurements of electron neutrino charged current interactions at energies ∼1GeV as a function of electron momentum, electron scattering angle, and four-momentum transfer of the interaction. The total flux-averaged νe charged current cross section on carbon is measured to be σ φ=1.11±0.10(stat)±0.18(syst)×10-38cm2/nucleon. The differential and total cross-section measurements agree with the predictions of two leading neutrino interaction generators, NEUT and GENIE. The NEUT prediction is 1.23×10-38cm2/nucleon and the GENIE prediction is 1.08×10-38cm2/nucleon. The total νe charged current cross-section result is also in agreement with data from the …

Investigating Catalysis Through Quantum Mechanical Computations: An Analysis Of Phosphoryl Transfer Enzymes And Ccc-Nhc Pincer Complexes, Katherine Nicholls Leigh
Investigating Catalysis Through Quantum Mechanical Computations: An Analysis Of Phosphoryl Transfer Enzymes And Ccc-Nhc Pincer Complexes, Katherine Nicholls Leigh
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
Chemical reactions are essential to the world we experience. Certain chemical reactions, though beneficial, occur at rates too slow to be practical. Catalysis, or the use of another species to increase the rate of a chemical reaction, is often utilized, allowing chemical reactions to become more beneficial. Catalysts increase reaction rates by lowering the amount of energy required to perform a reaction. Catalysis is abundant, as evidenced in nature in the form of enzymes, or in a myriad of non-biological processes such as chemical manufacturing and pharmaceutical materials. Phosphoryl transfer is a fundamental step in numerous processes central to life, …

Autonomous Vehicle Law Report And Recommendations To The Ulc Based On Existing State Av Laws, The Ulc's Final Report, And Our Own Conclusions About What Constitutes A Complete Law, University Of Washington Technology Law And Public Policy Clinic
Technology Law and Public Policy Clinic
This report was created by the University of Washington’s Technology Law and Policy Clinic for the Uniform Law Commission (ULC). It was created at the request of Robert Lloyd, Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee and a member of the ULC’s subcommittee for autonomous vehicles. The report aims to do three things: (1) present the existing autonomous vehicle provisions on the books in California, Michigan, Florida, Nevada, and Washington, D.C.; (2) analyze these provisions, address related questions raised in the ULC’s Final Report, and make recommendations to the ULC; and (3) offer draft provision language to illustrate our …

Ambulatory and Primary Care Articles
We are often asked what challenges Rwanda has faced in the development of palliative care and its integration into the healthcare system. In the past, patients have been barred from accessing strong analgesics to treat moderate to severe pain, but thanks to health initiatives, this is slowly changing. Rwanda is an example of a country where only a few years ago, access to morphine was almost impossible. Albert Einsten said 'in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity' and this sentiment could not be more relevant to the development of palliative care programmes. Through advocacy, policy, and staunch commitment to compassion, …

Moral Anxiety, Mortal Terror: Considering Spielberg, Post-9/11, Jake T. Bart
Cinesthesia
In the wake of 9/11, a defining moment in the young 21st century, Spielberg’s thematic concerns undergo a marked evolution. As film historian Joseph McBride noted, “(n)o other American artist confronted the key events of the first decade of the century with such sustained and ambitious treatment” (450). Together, Spielberg’s War of the Worlds (2005), Munich (2005), and Minority Report (2002) create an informal trilogy, each exploring a different facet of American shock and anxiety in the War on Terror era.
