The Relationship Of Social, Personal, And Academic Growth Between Theatre And Non-Theatre Arts Students : A Comparative Study, Kristy Burchard

This paper discusses the results of a systematic research design to determine academic, personal and social developmental differences between two adolescent groups, one group that had taken part in at least four theatre arts workshops and a demographically comparable group that had not attended theses workshops. I utilized Ex Post Facto research, which is a retrospective research study that allowed me to seek a possible and plausible relationship between these two groups. Both groups answered a 30-question survey. The measured outcome fell into one of three categories: Academic development, personal and social development. The questions posed were related to making …

The Historic Preservation Act of 1966 has significantly impacted communities at local, regional, state and national levels. However, questions have been raised about historic preservation and its contribution to economic development. The intersection of sustainability issues such as adaptive reuse, air quality, “walkable-livable” neighborhoods, and fossil fuel consumption illustrate the increasing importance of historic preservation. Historic Preservation Tax Credits show high returns and are valuable tools for legislators and policy makers to utilize in collaboration with other community development programs. Constructions Of The Muse: Blues Tribute Poems In Twentieth- And Twenty-First Century American Poetry, Emily Rutter

Moving chronologically from the New Negro Renaissance into the contemporary era, my dissertation examines poetic representations of five blues artists: Gertrude "Ma" Rainey, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly), and Robert Johnson. Despite extensive scholarship on the blues and these icons, blues tribute poems have remained un(der)studied. Filling in this critical gap, I draw attention to the valuable sociocultural work that poets perform by continuously breathing new life into the blues in general and these artists in particular. Moving Wheels and Heels is a Dance Therapy workshop in White Planes, New York for adults with physical and/or cognitive disabilities. Following a daily schedule, the dancers led by Sabatino Verlezza, Barbara Verlezza, and Nancy Lushington take part in May O'Donnell dance technique classes and choreograph themed pieces for the final performance at the end of the week-long workshop. One of the participants is a dancer with Down syndrome and inspired further research into the benefits of dancing for persons with Down syndrome. Dance as a form of therapy for older patients (70+ years old) offers a unique solution to the discrepancy between the mind and body that we see in the aging process. Though loss of muscle mass in aging is not a necessary part of aging, it can lead to inactivity in aging adults. Inactivity due to limited range of motion in older patients can result in negative feelings of self-worth. This action plan for older patients is a multidisciplinary approach to dance therapy as a tool for improving body posture and, therefore, overall quality of life. By looking at the …

Many students at public high schools enrich their high school experience and gain valuable skills through their participation in extra-curricular activities including, but not limited to, high school student leadership organizations. In this study, the researcher aims to present qualitative data obtained from semi-structured interviews that provide insight into the accessibility of high school student leadership organizations to students with disabilities. This study examines the perspectives of both student leaders in high school student leadership organizations and students with disabilities at three public high schools. Mammonymy, Maternal-Line Names, And Cultural Identification: Clues From The Onomasticon Of Hellenistic Uruk, Stephanie Langin-Hooper, Laurie Pearce
Art History Research
The onomasticon of Hellenistic Uruk demonstrates that, in some cases, individuals with Greek names were included in otherwise Babylonian families. Often, such Greek names have been interpreted by scholars as evidence for Hellenization. This article suggests an alternate explanation, based on evidence throughout the family trees for a series of naming practices that focus on the perpetuation of names of female relatives and transmission of preferred family names through maternal lines. Particularly important to this discussion are the practices of mammonymy, a term coined here to refer to papponymy’s gendered parallel, i.e., the naming of a girl after her grandmother …
