A Study Of Functional Recovery And Axonal Plasticity Following Tbi And Anti-Nogo-A Immunotherapy, Jennifer Crystal Biesiadecki
A Study Of Functional Recovery And Axonal Plasticity Following Tbi And Anti-Nogo-A Immunotherapy, Jennifer Crystal Biesiadecki
Master's Theses
Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality globally and often results in long term disability. Unfortunately, the success of rehabilitation techniques as therapy for TBI is limited, which may be due to the growth restrictive environment of the adult central nervous system (CNS). This environment is thought to result from glial scars, lack of neurotrophic factors, and the presence of an array of growth-inhibitory molecules. One such growth-inhibitory molecule is the protein Nogo-A. Our laboratory has shown that neutralization of Nogo-A with anti-Nogo-A immunotherapy after ischemic stroke results in improvement in functional recovery in the …
Rethinking Teacher Quality: Narrow Versus Broad Conceptions Of Capability, Anthony Costa
Rethinking Teacher Quality: Narrow Versus Broad Conceptions Of Capability, Anthony Costa
Master's Theses
This paper examines the prevailing notion of teacher quality today. While there is wide agreement that teachers are the primary factor in schools determining student achievement, there is disagreement about which attributes constitute a high-quality teacher. Different approaches to improving teaching spring from different conceptualizations of capability. Since teacher quality consists of particular abilities that allow teachers to excel in their work, we need to understand how the abilities of high quality teachers are acquired, maintained and expanded, or, conversely, how these abilities are unrealized, arrested and diminished. The Strategic Management of Human Capital (SMHC) project represents the dominant approach …
Non-Additive Toxicity Of Bi-Metal Mixtures To Fathead Minnows, Natalie Rae Lynch
Non-Additive Toxicity Of Bi-Metal Mixtures To Fathead Minnows, Natalie Rae Lynch
Master's Theses
Much research has been conducted to assess the toxicity of metals to aquatic organisms. Most of the research has focused on the toxicity of individual metals. Recently, attention has been paid to metal mixture toxicity because metals are usually present as mixtures in contaminated environments. The literature review indicates that metal mixtures may be additive, synergistic, or antagonistic to freshwater species. However, the data is not consistent and is dependent on the metal and organisms. The goal of this research is to use a systematic experimental design to characterize the toxicity of Cu, Zn, Cd and Ni mixtures to Pimephales …
Afghan University Women Graduates Are Not Well-Represented In The Job Market In Afghanistan, Mohammad Kazem Shakib
Afghan University Women Graduates Are Not Well-Represented In The Job Market In Afghanistan, Mohammad Kazem Shakib
Master's Theses
Higher education has been one of the prominent sectors in Afghanistan for the past decade. There has been a steady increase in the representation of women within the higher education system in the country. However, the growth of an educated workforce within the job market and the growth of the national economy have not been equal. A high number of university women graduates are jobless, employed in non-relevant professions, or working in part-time jobs like teaching in primary and secondary school.
This paper explores the contribution and representation of university women graduates in the economy of Afghanistan. Through a liberal …
Tax Consequences Of Distributing Equity Compensation Rights In Divorce, Gregg Polsky, Jeffrey D. Fisher, Zachry R. Potter
Tax Consequences Of Distributing Equity Compensation Rights In Divorce, Gregg Polsky, Jeffrey D. Fisher, Zachry R. Potter
Scholarly Works
This article discusses the federal tax issues arising from the equitable distribution of compensatory stock options and restricted stock in divorce. While the tax consequences of distributing vested options and shares are clear, the treatment of unvested rights is muddled. This article explains the state of the law and provides practical advice to divorce lawyers who confront these issues.

Coastal Defence Through Wave Farms, J. Abanades, D. Greaves, G. Iglesias
Coastal Defence Through Wave Farms, J. Abanades, D. Greaves, G. Iglesias
School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics
The possibility of using wave farms for coastal defence warrants investigation because wave energy is poised to become a major renewable in many countries over the next decades. The fundamental question in this regard is whether a wave farm can be used to reduce beach erosion under storm conditions. If the answer to this question is positive, then a wave farm can have coastal defence as a subsidiary function, in addition to its primary role of producing carbon-free energy. The objective of this work is to address this question by comparing the response of a beach in the face of …
Investigating The Antecedents And Consequences Of Saudization In The Construction Sector, Abdullah Almami
Investigating The Antecedents And Consequences Of Saudization In The Construction Sector, Abdullah Almami
Plymouth Business School Theses
Over time, due to the increase in the numbers of foreign workers, both the Saudi population and the rate of unemployment among Saudi workers increased sharply so the Saudi government embarked on a process of replacing the foreign workers with Saudi workers. The government was concerned that there were many young people who remained jobless on leaving university whilst, at the same time in Saudi Arabia, there were many foreign nationals who, essentially, were taking jobs meant for the local population. This study aims to investigate, on the one hand, the factors affecting the adoption of Saudization and, on the …
Antecedents Of Business-To-Business E-Commerce Adoption And Its Effect On Competitive Advantage In Manufacturing Small And Medium-Sized Enterprises: A Comparative Study Of United States Of America And Egypt, Haseba Hamad
Plymouth Business School Theses
Business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce adoption has become a necessity for most small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), allowing them to gain and sustain competitive advantage in a dynamic competitive environment. Accepting the fact that B2B is adopted at different levels based on different resources leads to the acceptance that competitive advantage is gained and sustained on a level consistent with the level of adoption. This study employs quantitative method based on the positivism philosophy and deductive approach. A questionnaire survey technique was used to collect the data from the American and Egyptian manufacturing SMEs. Moreover, it used structural equation modelling with a …

Aall Diversity Redelineated, Ronald E. Wheeler
Faculty Scholarship
There are other types of diversity beyond race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. Professor Wheeler explores various ways that law librarians experience different types of diversity in law librarianship. Through anecdotes, Wheeler demonstrates that in many ways all law librarians both contribute to and benefit from diversity in our profession.
Classical Liberal Constitution Or Classical Liberal Construction?, Gary S. Lawson
Classical Liberal Constitution Or Classical Liberal Construction?, Gary S. Lawson
Faculty Scholarship
In The Classical Liberal Constitution: The Uncertain Quest for Limited Government (2013), Richard Epstein says that he "incorporates but goes beyond" originalist theory by calling for adjudication "in sync with" classical liberal theory political theory, which Professor Epstein claims underlies the Constitution. Without in any way detracting from the numerous virtues of this book, I argue that this is primarily a work of constitutional construction rather than constitutional interpretation. From the standpoint of interpretation, the background rules that best supplement the constitutional text are found in eighteenth-century fiduciary law rather than in classical liberal political theory, though the latter is …
Risk Management In Liquefied Natural Gas Ports And Marine Terminals Supply Chains, Mohamed Briouig
Risk Management In Liquefied Natural Gas Ports And Marine Terminals Supply Chains, Mohamed Briouig
Plymouth Business School Theses
Due to its environmental attributes, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a clean fossil fuel source of energy has witnessed a steady increase in demand worldwide over the last decade. This increase is mainly attributed to higher demand from the power generation sector as well as from domestic and industrial usages .This growing role of LNG among competing energy sources has raised concerns over the safety and security of the LNG chain of production, transport and distribution and its related infrastructure. Within this context, LNG ports and marine terminals, being strategically located at the midstream of the LNG Supply Chain (SC), …
The Role Of Underlying Mechanisms In Achieving Consistent Hybrid Combinations Of Competitive Advantages, Michael Zellner
The Role Of Underlying Mechanisms In Achieving Consistent Hybrid Combinations Of Competitive Advantages, Michael Zellner
Plymouth Business School Theses
This thesis takes a step beyond the current discussion on hybrid competitive strategies (HS) by identifying the underlying mechanisms and common elements of successful hybrid strategies. Reviewing empirical and theoretical literature revealed a significant gap in this respect. Therefore, the activity-based view of strategy is introduced to the discussion on HS. In a first step, four consistent and sustainable HS concepts are developed providing the basis for deriving specific HS models. A second step identifies commonalities among these HS types and theoretically derives a synthesized, common HS model. Thirdly, the critical realist stance was selected for answering this thesis’ research …
