I studied the role of frequent, low-severity fire in Pinus ponderosa (ponderosa pine) forests in altering the success of the irruptive insect Dendroctonus ponderosae (mountain pine beetle (MPB)). This dissertation establishes a comprehensive approach to looking at aqueous equilibria phenomena over essentially all feasible compositions of two component solutions - acid-base titrations, metal-ligand complexation, oxidation-reduction couples and solubility of binary ionic compounds. Fundamental to this method is the definition of a composition grid above which numerous system properties can be plotted as three-dimensional trend surfaces to visualize important aspects of system behavior. These have been named "topos" because their appearance is similar to topographic maps. Researchers and clinicians are interested in how a patient’s individual genetic makeup could predict the appropriate medication and dose for that patient. One way to predict drug response, or efficacy, is by looking at enzymes within the liver that metabolize drugs. Many of these enzymes belong to a class called the Cytochrome P450s (CYPs). Specifically, two closely related enzymes, CYP3A4 and CYP3A5, are involved in metabolizing 50% of drugs currently on the market (eg: statins, antiepileptics, anticancer agents, and antidepressants). Research has suggested that psychological abuse is both more prevalent and more devastating to victims, as compared to physical violence. While there remains no true consensus as to the definition of “psychological abuse”, a current conceptualization typifies psychological abuse into four groups of acts that are meant to (a)denigrate and damage a partner’s self-esteem, (b) withhold nurturing and support, (c) both explicitly and implicitly threaten, and (d) restrict personal freedom. Ecological restoration is defined by the Society for Ecological Restoration (SER) as “the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged or destroyed” (9). In practice, restoration typically involves the removal of pollution, human-made structures (like dams or roads), invasive species, and other impediments to ecological health. Removing the sources of ecological impairment is coupled with the reintroduction of flora, fauna, and the physical structures that are necessary for healthy ecosystem function. Set at the end of the 1960s in Southern California, Thomas Pynchon's novel Inherent Vice (2009) is a nostalgic and parodic take on the hard-boiled crime genre. With a nebulously defined search for an erstwhile lover and intimations of foul play from global corporations, its conventional plot construction has led most critics to view the frequency with which its private eye protagonist, Doc Sportello, consumes and distributes cannabis while detecting as a hyperbolic motif designed to accentuate the ostentation of the book’s stylistic parody. American writer Ishmael Reed defends literature as a mechanism for effective protest and a form of comment on American politics. In his early works, Reed used postmodern aesthetics to destabilize common assumptions about race and politics. Today, Reed continues to grapple with racial inequality, but he has shifted away from postmodern fiction producing mostly essays and reviews. Reed’s use of various mediums to protest political injustice blurs the line between politics and literature. Since the late 1800’s the federal government has had sole authority, or plenary power, over immigration policymaking and enforcement.1However, since the mid 1900’s legislation and executive actions have given more and more authority to states and local governments in the area of immigration enforcement. A brief synopsis of recent immigration law history begins with the Hart-Celler Act of1965, which abolished the national origins quota system and allocated an additional 170,000 visas to countries in the Eastern Hemisphere and 120,000 visas to countries in the Western Hemisphere.

I argue that when an individual enters into a relationship, they should be able to share private or embarrassing facts with their partner without fear of waiving their right to privacy: members of an intimate relationship have a moral obligation not to publish, whether orally or in writing, intimate information about one another to third parties. This moral obligation further extends to photographs or videos, and I focus on the case of revenge porn. It will then look at the history of desegregation in Gainesville Florida, and specifically, Eastside High School. This paper is one of the first research works to examine the stock index volatility in the Mongolian Stock Exchange. The study utilizes the Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GAR CH) models to estimate volatility of stock market return of the Mongolian Stock Exchange. A number of prior research work demonstrated that ARCH and GARCH models are fruitful models for modeling volatility of time series data. Depending on the geometry of the given situation, the flat-panel X-ray source could be used in tomography, radiography or tomosynthesis. Although these automated systems can lead to enhanced human performance, factors such as degraded alarm signal reliability and lack of trust can undermine the potential benefits of automation (Breznitz, 1984; Rice, 2009, Wickens & 2007). Taos Field Office, New Mexico, has managed an electrofishing fish population program since 2004 for seven reaches of the Rio Grande. Managers are interested in actual angler catches and satisfaction, and often use angler surveys to gather this data. The purpose of this research was to track the evolution of a constructed wetland system through time while taking into consideration anthropogenic perturbations to the system. It was accomplished by reviewing 30 years-worth of literature associated with the project site, gleaning relevant information, and then synthesizing the information to form a complete evolutionary timeline. In August 2012 a wetland was constructed using water from the evaporation ponds. The Dutchman Canyon wetland, a continuous flow, free surface wetland, was thus formed. Close attention to grassroots political culture allows us to probe how peoples spiritual subjectivity and political subjectivity overlap and cross-fertilize one another. Such intervals of extreme dryness have been a permanent, recurring feature of the state’s climate for at least two thousand years, according to tree ring data and other scientific evidence.
