The Photophysics Properties Of Lanthanide Luminescent Probes, Ke Li Aug 2014

The Photophysics Properties Of Lanthanide Luminescent Probes, Ke Li

Theses

A detailed study of the luminescence quantum yield, lifetimes and the number of water molecules coordinated to lanthanide luminescent probes based on biphenylyl-7-amino-4- methyl-2(1H)-quinolinon (Bi-cs124) derivatives have been carried out using a time- resolved fluorescence assay (TRFA). Bi-cs124 was conbined with different chelating agents, specifically diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA), ethylene diamine tetraacetic acid (EDTA), ethylene glycol tetraacetic acid (EGTA), and 3,6,9,12-Tetrakis carboxymethyl)-3,6,9,12-tetraazatetradecane-1,14-dioic acid (TTHA). The results indicate that Bi-cs 124-TTHA has a longest lifetime and smallest number of coordinated water molecules because TTHA has larger number of chelating groups. The dependence of the luminescence lifetimes on the probes concentrations …

Formation Of Branching Angles At Bifurcations Of Ant Trail Networks, Subash Kusum Ray Aug 2014

Formation Of Branching Angles At Bifurcations Of Ant Trail Networks, Subash Kusum Ray

Theses

Ants form dendritic trail networks around the nest to search for and exploit food sources located at the periphery of the network. Studies found these trail networks to be very efficient for the ants in terms of time and energy, which later was found stored in the bifurcation angle (θ) of the branches of these trail networks. It has been observed, that bifurcations are symmetrical when moving from the nest to the food source, while are asymmetrical when moving back towards the nest. The mean bifurcation angles have been found to be 50° - 80° for networks radiating out from …

Disturbed But Not Destroyed: New Perspectives On Urban Archaeology And Class In 19th Century Lowell, Massachusetts, Katelyn M. Coughlan

Graduate Masters Theses

Through the artifacts from the Jackson Appleton Middlesex Urban Revitalization and Devolvement Project (hereafter JAM) located in Lowell, MA, this research explores social class in nineteenth-century boardinghouses. This thesis is a two-part study. First, through statistical analysis, research recovers interpretable data from urban archaeological contexts subject to disturbance. Pinpointing intra-site similarities between artifacts recovered from intact and disturbed contexts, data show that artifacts recovered from disturbed and intact contexts in urban environments are not as dissimilar as previously believed. In the second phase using both intact and disturbed JAM contexts, the analysis of four boardinghouse features highlights two distinct patterns …

Sinorhizobium meliloti is a Gram-negative alphaproteobacterium and nitrogen-fixing symbiont, which undergoes a novel cell cycle modification during its' host-microbe interaction. I intend to monitor the transcriptional regulation of cell cycle-related genes during free-loving growth, in addition to monitoring their expression during symbiosis. Using genes known to be regulated by CtrA in C. crescentus or predicted to be regulated by CtrA in S. meliloti, I aim to show how certain cell cycle genes are regulated in S. meliloti. In C. crescentus, CtrA acts as a transcription factor that is active when phosphorylated and inactive when not phosphorylated. In …

Fructose-2,6-Bisphosphate Synthesis By 6-Phosphofructo-2-Kinase/Fructose-2,6-Bisphosphatase 4 (Pfkfb4) Is Required For The Glycolytic Response To Hypoxia And Tumor Growth, Jason Chesney, Jennifer Clark, Alden C. Klarer, Yoannis Imbert-Fernandez, Andrew N. Lane, Sucheta Telang

Markey Cancer Center Faculty Publications

Fructose-2,6-bisphosphate (F2,6BP) is a shunt product of glycolysis that allosterically activates 6-phosphofructo-1-kinase (PFK-1) resulting in increased glucose uptake and glycolytic flux to lactate. The F2,6BP concentration is dictated by four bifunctional 6-phosphofructo-2-kinase/fructose-2,6-bisphosphatases (PFKFB1-4) with distinct kinase:phosphatase activities. PFKFB4 is over-expressed in human cancers, induced by hypoxia and required for survival and growth of several cancer cell lines. Although PFKFB4 appears to be a rational target for anti-neoplastic drug development, it is not clear whether its kinase or phosphatase activity is required for cancer cell survival. In this study, we demonstrate that recombinant human PFKFB4 kinase activity is 4.3-fold greater than …

Penetapan Kadar Hidrokortison Asetat Dalam Sediaan Krim Mengandung Pengawet Nipagin Secara Spektrofotometri Derivatif Orde Pertama, Hayun Hayun, Nelly D. Leswara, Lutfhi Zarkasih

Pharmaceutical Sciences and Research

The simple and rapid spectrophotometric methods were developed for analysis of hydrocortisone acetate in cream pharmaceutical formulations containing nipagin as preservative. Concentration of hydrocortisone acetate was determined by measuring the first derivative absorption (ratio amplitudes) at 257.0 nm (zero crossing for nipagin). The calibration graphs were linear over the range of 4.0-40.0 ppm of hydrocortisone acetate (r= 0.9999). The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantitation (LOQ) were found to be 0.9617 ppm and 3.2050 ppm, respectively. This method had good precision (repeatability and intermediate precision) with RSD < 2.0% where as the means of the recovery data (accuracy) were 102.03±0.14% and 100.23±0.69% for hydrocortisone acetate cream 1% and 2.5%, respectively. The proposed method was applied for the determination of hydrocortisone acetate in three out of four commercial cream formulations samples and the results of label claim were 102.93±0.22%, 108.48±0.19% and 106.67±0.35% for sample A, B and D, respectively. The result of brand C analysis showed to contain more than 110.0% of the labeled amount of hydrocortisone acetate, indicated there was additive other than nipagin in the cream basis to interfer with the hydrocortisone acetate measurements.
