Nurse Practitioners’ Attitudes And Knowledge About Influenza Immunization, Kim Curry, Christina Humphreys Jan 2014

Nurse Practitioners’ Attitudes And Knowledge About Influenza Immunization, Kim Curry, Christina Humphreys

Florida Public Health Review

Influenza remains a leading cause of death nationally and internationally. Annual influenza immunization for healthcare workers has been recommended since 1984. Despite this, many healthcare workers do not receive the immunization. Nurse practitioners (NPs) are key primary care providers in the U.S. healthcare system. The purpose of this study was to assess the knowledge and personal beliefs of NPs as a step toward understanding the reasons for the participation or non-participation in the influenza vaccine of this professional group. A quantitative cross-sectional survey of knowledge, attitudes, NP demographics, and patient factors was carried out. Most of the 174 participants had …

A New Edge-Preserving Algorithm Based On The Cie- Lu'v' Color Space For Color Contrast Enhancement, Mohammad Zolfaghari, Mehran Yazdi Jan 2014

A New Edge-Preserving Algorithm Based On The Cie- Lu'v' Color Space For Color Contrast Enhancement, Mohammad Zolfaghari, Mehran Yazdi

Turkish Journal of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences

Image segmentation and edge detection are the most important presteps in machine vision, and their successfulness can affect the success of the next steps. In this paper, the performance of the Trahanias edge detector in different color spaces, such as RGB, YCbCr, HSI, and CIE Lu'v', is compared in order to find the best color space for image segmentation and edge detection. We then offer an efficient edge-preserving algorithm for color contrast enhancement in the CIE Lu'v' space. The proposed algorithm can increase the color contrast, which causes a remarkable improvement in image segmentation and edge detection in the CIE …

Commgram: A New Visual Analytics Tool For Large Communication Trace Data, Jieting Wu, Jianping Zeng, Hongfeng Yu Jan 2014

Commgram: A New Visual Analytics Tool For Large Communication Trace Data, Jieting Wu, Jianping Zeng, Hongfeng Yu

School of Computing: Conference and Workshop Papers

The performance of massively parallel program is often impacted by the cost of communication across computing nodes. Analysis of communication patterns is critical for understanding and optimizing massively parallel programs. Visualization can help identify potential communication bottlenecks by displaying message trace data. However, the visual clutter and temporal incoherence problems are typically incurred in existing visualization tools for a considerable number of processors. In this paper, we present a new tool, named CommGram, which supports visual analysis of communication patterns for massive parallel MPI programs. With the benefit of MPI trace library DUMPI of SST, our framework builds hierarchical …

Optimized Image Compressed Sensing And Transmission Through Wireless Channels, Saheed Olanigan Jan 2014

Optimized Image Compressed Sensing And Transmission Through Wireless Channels, Saheed Olanigan

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This thesis examines the robust behavior of quantized compressed sensing measurements during transmission through an additive white gaussian noise wireless channel. The poor rate-distortion performance that accompanies compressed sensing after applying quantization has led to several works in quantized compressed sensing. However, most of these works have less consideration of the effect of transmission channel on the resulting bit stream of the quantized compressed sensing measurements. For an additive white gaussian noise wireless channel model, the quantizer and bit energy signal-to-noise ratio determines the degree of the channel effect. This thesis explores the effect of quantization and channel noise during …

This thesis explores the role of "forts" in the sociopolitical organization of a prehistoric people known as the Cohonina through the application of settlement systems analysis and functional studies. The primary objective of this thesis is to test ideas of Cohonina sociopolitical organization through an examination of the functional characteristics of forts and their positions on the landscape using a combination of theory derived from settlement and landscape archaeology, deployed in a geographic information system work environment. A Cohonina fort site known as the Pittsberg Fort Complex, was placed in its community context through broad scale survey. Artifact, architectural, and …

Synthetic Generators For Simulating Social Networks, Awrad Mohammed Ali Jan 2014

Synthetic Generators For Simulating Social Networks, Awrad Mohammed Ali

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An application area of increasing importance is creating agent-based simulations to model human societies. One component of developing these simulations is the ability to generate realistic human social networks. Online social networking websites, such as Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, have increased in popularity in the last decade. Despite the increase in online social networking tools and the importance of studying human behavior in these networks, collecting data directly from these networks is not always feasible due to privacy concerns. Previous work in this area has primarily been limited to 1) network generators that aim to duplicate a small subset of …

Mediated Discourse Analysis : Negotiating Metrosexuality Within L’Oréal Men Expert’S Packaging Discourse / Cheong Huey Fen, Huey Fen Cheong

Student Works (2010-2019)

Gender, the social rules and standards of behaviours imposed on male and female, has been a popular social debate. The modern pursuit of body beautiful and fashion among metrosexuals that trespasses feminine space causes uncertain social acceptance. Hence, the study aims to explore the marketing strategies in the grooming industry to overcome this uncertainty. Choosing the giant beauty producer, L’Oréal, the case study investigates its success story in cross-gender brand extension to L’Oréal Men Expert (LME), while continues to thrive in both female and male markets. Using Scollon's (2001, 2004) Mediated Discourse Analysis, the qualitative research aims to analyze how …

This purpose of this study is to analyze the rhetorical structure and communicative purposes of car advertisements. This study adopted Kathpalia’s (1993) …

The Use Of Human And Conspecific Gestures By Capuchin Monkeys To Solve An Object-Choice Task, Lindsay Paige Schwartz Jan 2014

The Use Of Human And Conspecific Gestures By Capuchin Monkeys To Solve An Object-Choice Task, Lindsay Paige Schwartz

Honors Theses

Most primates live in highly complex social systems, and therefore have evolved similarly complex methods of communicating with each other. One type of communication is the use of manual gestures, which are only found in primates. No substantial evidence exists indicating that monkeys use communicative gestures in the wild. However, monkeys may demonstrate the ability to learn and/or use gestures in certain experimental paradigms since they¿ve been shown to use other visual cues such as gaze. The purpose of this study was to investigate if ten brown capuchin monkeys (Cebus apella) were able to use gestural cues from monkeys and …

The Use Of Photography As A Clinical Tool In Social Work : A Theoretical Exploration Using Winnicottian And Jungian Lenses, André N. Zandoná

Theses, Dissertations, and Projects

In this theoretical study, the photographic process was examined as having the potential to be used as a psychodynamic clinical tool in social work. Psychodynamic theoretical concepts by Carl Jung and Donald W. Winnicott were examined as guiding principles that will allow clinicians to understand how photography can be useful as a means to understand one's internal experience as well as external relationship with the world. This body of work presented current and potential uses of the camera as an instrument in interpreting the world according to one's subjectivity. In addition to theoretical examination, this research study also presented real …
