Goodell's Quagmire, Richard C. Crepeau
On Sport and Society
The continuing saga of the NFL and Ray Rice has now become basically the Roger Goodell story. The Commissioner has not managed to stay ahead of the news cycle and has failed to cut his losses. Rather than to accept responsibility for his mistakes and missteps he has continued to deal in what now seems to be his only task as Commissioner, to Protect the Shield. And it’s not going well.

An Analysis Of Risk Management Practices And Legal Considerations In South Korean Club Sports, Sungwon Kim
Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs
In light of the fact that club sport participation in South Korea is increasing in an unprecedented pace, the primary objective of the study was to establish the management status of sports clubs. Specifically, this study investigated a broad spectrum of issues concerning safety issues with regards to club sport participation, including the status of injury/accident and litigation, risk management practices, and legal considerations. Additionally, the study researched the association between the institutional demographic factors of sport clubs and various risk management variables. The study was conducted by using the self-developed 36-item survey that include demographic information, injury/accident and litigation …
Determinants Of Users Intention To Adopt Mobile Fitness Applications: An Extended Technology Acceptance Model Approach, Kwak Jang Yul
Determinants Of Users Intention To Adopt Mobile Fitness Applications: An Extended Technology Acceptance Model Approach, Kwak Jang Yul
Health, Exercise, and Sports Sciences ETDs
The present research was motivated by the recognition that the use of mobile fitness applications (MFA) is increasingly popular among sports and exercise participants in recent years. Using an extended Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) perspective, this study explored potential predictors of behavioral intention toward MFAs such as perceived ease of use, perceived usefulness, personalization, personal innovativeness in information technology (PIIT), perceived enjoyment, mobile application self-efficacy, involvement in sports and exercise participation, and social influences (interpersonal and external influences). A theoretical model was developed and tested against the empirical data collected from 385 collegiate students enrolled in physical activity classes at …

Economics Faculty Working Papers Series
We develop and empirically test a model of intercollegiate athletic department expenditure decisions. The model extends general dynamic models of nonprice competition and includes the idea that nonprofit athletic departments may simply set expenditure equal to revenues. Own and rival prestige is included in the athletic departments' utility function, generating rivalrous interaction. The model predicts that current own and rival investment has multiperiod effects on prestige since investment is durable. We test the model using data from NCAA Division I athletic programs from 2006-2011; the models incorporate spatial autocorrelation that capture dynamic rivalrous interaction. Results support the prediction of both …

A Methodological Framework For Evaluating The Environmental Performance Of Large-Scale Sanitation Systems In Developing Countries, Pedro Cruz-Diloné
A Methodological Framework For Evaluating The Environmental Performance Of Large-Scale Sanitation Systems In Developing Countries, Pedro Cruz-Diloné
Theses
It is 2014 and approximately 40% of the world population still has no access to adequate sanitary toilets. For these 2.6 billion people the problem is not only finding a safe and dignified place to defecate, but also trying to combat deadly diseases associated with the exposure to pathogens in feces left on the ground or near waterways. Improving sanitation is not only favorable to health, but also promotes dignity, economic benefits and environmental conservation. Although there have been numerous efforts to improve sanitation systems in the developing world, adoption rates and long term use are relatively low due to …

Swosu Fact Book Fall 2014, Denisa Engelman
Fact Books
I am proud to introduce the 23rd annual Southwestern Oklahoma State University Fact Book. The Fact Book provides a ready source of information to answer frequently asked questions about the University and its operations. Unless otherwise noted, the information in this Fact Book came from computer-generated
reports that are printed following the tenth class day of each fall semester. Because of student fluctuations during the semester, numbers will not match other published enrollment numbers that may be based on enrollment at the end of a semester.

On Sport and Society
The Little League World Series is often the occasion for comment but usually it involves subjects such as rabid parents or hyperventilating coaches. This time the comments coming out of Williamsport, where fracking rather than baseball usually dominates the landscape, had a feel good aspect to them.
Volunteer Leadership Experiences: Gender In Youth Sport Management, Cassandra Jc Murty
Volunteer Leadership Experiences: Gender In Youth Sport Management, Cassandra Jc Murty
Doctoral Dissertations
Sport has long been considered a male domain (Koivula, 1995) and rates of female coaches and women in leadership positions within sport organizations remain relatively low at the various levels (Acosta & Carpenter, 2012; Lavoi, 2009), including youth sport (Messner & Bozada-Deas, 2009). Positions within youth sport are often gendered, with men taking on the role of coach while women remain in less prestigious and powerful positions such as "team mom" (Messner & Bozada-Deas, 2009). Social (Fallon & Jome, 2007; Claringbould & Knoppers, 2007) factors influence women’s decisions to enter leadership positions as well as the acceptance, or lack thereof, …
