Schoenstatt’S Shrine For The Pilgrim People Of God, Ann W. Astell, Danielle M. Peters Oct 2014

Schoenstatt’S Shrine For The Pilgrim People Of God, Ann W. Astell, Danielle M. Peters

Claritas: Journal of Dialogue and Culture

The authors reflect on the anthropological notion of pilgrimage of the People of God and the place of ecclesial movements therein. While many movements are associated with a pilgrimage to a particular shrine, the very birth of the Schoenstatt Movement coincides with, and depends upon, the Schoenstatt Shrine. Founded in Germany at the outbreak of World War I, on October 18, 1914, by Father Joseph Kentenich (1885–1968), the international Apostolic Movement of Schoenstatt is animated by a threefold spirituality corresponding to the three graces received through pilgrimage to Schoenstatt’s shrine. This essay argues that the structural principles of formation inherent …

Depressives And The Scenes Of Queer Writing, Allen Durgin Oct 2014

Depressives And The Scenes Of Queer Writing, Allen Durgin

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

My dissertation attempts to answer the question: What exactly does a reparative reading look like? The question refers to Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick's provocative essay on paranoid and reparative reading practices, in which Sedgwick describes how the hermeneutics of suspicion has become central to a whole range of intellectual projects across the humanities and social sciences. Criticizing this dominant critical mode for its political blindness and unintended replication of repressive social structures, Sedgwick looks for an alternative in what she calls reparative reading . Past attempts to expand on Sedgwick's brief yet suggestive remarks regarding reparative reading have foundered due to …

“Finishing Business” The Important Role Of The Psychosocial Worker In The Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Team: A Hypothetical Case, Merridy Rowe, Catherine Turnbull Oct 2014

“Finishing Business” The Important Role Of The Psychosocial Worker In The Interdisciplinary Palliative Care Team: A Hypothetical Case, Merridy Rowe, Catherine Turnbull

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

The assessment of the palliative client and family caregivers by an interdisciplinary team comprising medical, nursing, and allied health allows for all aspects including the physical, social, and psychological and spiritual needs to be incorporated into care planning. This comprehensive level of planning for the care of the client and family caregivers can allow for a client to fulfil their own definition of a good death, or dying well. Whilst the provision of psychosocial support can be the seen as the role of the social worker in the team, all members of the palliative care team, especially in rural and …

Mercy As Embrace: An Understanding Of Forgiveness And Reconciliation Through Miroslav Volf’S Exclusion And Embrace, John Mary Francis M. Nuqui Oct 2014

Mercy As Embrace: An Understanding Of Forgiveness And Reconciliation Through Miroslav Volf’S Exclusion And Embrace, John Mary Francis M. Nuqui

Loyola Papers

This article explores mercy as the foundation of forgiveness and reconciliation through Miroslav Volf’s theology of exclusion and embrace. Situated within contexts of violence and injustice, it examines the tension between justice and forgiveness. Through a systematic analysis of Volf’s Exclusion and Embrace, the study highlights how identity, otherness, and exclusion are transformed by God’s merciful initiative into an embracing relationality. It argues that mercy, grounded in Trinitarian communion, enables an “embracive identity” that fosters reconciliation through openness, double vision, and the will to embrace the other.

The Gawain-Poet And The Textual Environment Of Fourteenth-Century English Anticlericalism, Ethan Campbell Oct 2014

The Gawain-Poet And The Textual Environment Of Fourteenth-Century English Anticlericalism, Ethan Campbell

Dissertations, Theses, and Capstone Projects

The 14th-century Middle English poems Cleanness and Patience, homiletic retellings of biblical stories which appear in the same manuscript as Pearl and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, offer moral lessons to a general Christian audience, but the introduction to Cleanness, with its reference to men whom "prestez arn called," suggests that a central feature of their rhetoric is anticlerical critique. Priests do not appear as exemplars but as potentially filthy hypocrites who inspire God's harshest wrath, since their sins may contaminate Christ's body in the Eucharist.

Using Cleanness's opening lines as a guide, this dissertation …
