Fire, Water And Wind: God's Transformational Narrative, Norbert Haukenfrers
Fire, Water And Wind: God's Transformational Narrative, Norbert Haukenfrers
Doctor of Ministry
"Fire, Water, and Wind: God’s Transformational Narrative" explores factors in forming a healthy sense of personal identity. The impetus for this dissertation is the observation that people in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Canada and the surrounding area, are searching for meaning and identity. They are dissatisfied with their current situations and many are actively seeking escape from their current life experiences. This is evidenced by the number of people participating in high-risk behaviors and activities such as drug or alcohol abuse, gambling, engaging and soliciting prostitution, pornography, multiple sex partners, unprotected sexual encounters, smoking, or violent crimes, and far too many …

Questions Churches Are Asking, Moses Chung, John Witvliet
Symposium on Worship Archive
One of the joys of serving at the Calvin Institute of Christian Worship and Christian Reformed Church Home Missions is the opportunity to listen to so many different local conversations. This session will offer reflections on topics that are bubbling up in a host of local conversations across North America, along with provisional thoughts about what this means for the future of faithful ministry. Come ready to reflect on your context in light of these broader patterns, and to contribute insights from your own joys and struggles in ministry.
Listening To Your Listeners: A Preaching Preparation Process That Changes…Everything!, Lori Carrell
Listening To Your Listeners: A Preaching Preparation Process That Changes…Everything!, Lori Carrell
Symposium on Worship Archive
A vast majority of listeners attending U.S. churches have never talked with a pastor about a sermon. And, unfortunately, those listeners report by the thousands that though they expect spiritual growth as they listen to their preachers, it usually does not occur. Preachers who listen to their listeners as a regular part of sermon preparation can expect to change these patterns, increasing the spiritual impact of preaching for individuals, congregations, communities – and culture. During this workshop, participants will discover how diverse congregations have established and maintained pre-sermon dialogue groups (without adding to the preachers’ limited sermon prep time!).
Caring For The Sick: The Catholic Contribution And Its Relevance, Thomas John Paprocki
Caring For The Sick: The Catholic Contribution And Its Relevance, Thomas John Paprocki
Notre Dame Journal of Law, Ethics & Public Policy
The article discusses the role of Catholicism in caring for the sick. Catholic health care is motivated by God as the origin of its apostolate for the sick and work of healing. The cultural threats to the Catholic anthropology of healing are pointed out including the Scientism ideology, growing secularism and the nihilistic tendency of contemporary moral reasoning. The challenges facing Catholic health care are described.

All For One, And One For All-Comers! University Nondiscrimination Policies In Light Of Hosanna-Tabor And The Ministerial Exception, Zach Tafoya
Pepperdine Law Review
In light of the more recent Hosanna-Tabor decision, this Comment seeks to answer these questions by extending the reasoning behind the ministerial exception to the university context in order to build a foundation upon which a future exception can be built to ensure that religious student groups are sufficiently free to choose their own leaders. Part II sets forth a brief history of the ministerial exception and its application in the circuit courts. Part III addresses two recent Supreme Court cases, Martinez and Hosanna-Tabor, and their practical effect on religious liberty, as well as the public’s perception of both cases. …

Student Leadership Development: A Functional Framework, Gregory S.C. Hine
Education Papers and Journal Articles
This article presents a longitudinal, qualitative case study of a student leadership program in a Catholic secondary school in Perth, Western Australia. Data were collected over a period of three years through multiple methods, including one-on-one interviewing, focus group interviewing, document searches, field notes, and researcher reflective journaling. Through the analysis of the longitudinal data, key characteristics of seven models of leadership presented in the literature—transactional leadership, transformational leadership, charismatic leadership, servant leadership, distributed leadership, Christian leadership, and student leadership—are compared with those found in the leadership program of the school. This article contributes to the growing body of school-based …
