Twenty-Five Years Of Giving: Using A National Data Set To Examine Private Support For Higher Education, Karen Ann Frank
Twenty-Five Years Of Giving: Using A National Data Set To Examine Private Support For Higher Education, Karen Ann Frank
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Resource dependencies have increased substantially at colleges and universities over the years due to economic declines, recessionary periods, and decreased funding from state allocations. The purpose of this study was to advance an understanding of private support for higher education as a source of supplementary funding. As the environment continues to become more competitive for outside resources, institutions of higher education can benefit from more substantive and objective research on private voluntary support to better meet their growing needs for additional resources.
Effective financial management requires a greater understanding of the expected size of financial contributions to assist with strategic …
Crowdfunding And Its Impact On Indie Film, Andrew Eisbrouch
Crowdfunding And Its Impact On Indie Film, Andrew Eisbrouch
Cardozo Arts & Entertainment Law Journal (AELJ) Blog
Crowdfunding has become a popular new way for filmmakers as well as entrepreneurs, small businesses, and philanthropists to raise capital by obtaining small contributions from a large number of individuals over the Internet. Websites such as Kickstarter, IndieGoGo, RocketHub, and WeFunder have provided a portal for films like Wish You Were Here, Veronica Mars, and Sharknado 2 to obtain needed financing. A recent legislation has the potential to change this crowdfunding and indie film landscape. On April 5th, 2012, President Obama signed into law the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (“JOBS Act”), which legalizes equity crowdfunding over the Internet.

Penetration Through The Staple Punctures On Five N95 Respirator Models, Daniel E. Medina
Penetration Through The Staple Punctures On Five N95 Respirator Models, Daniel E. Medina
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Certain N95 FFR models that staple the head straps directly onto filtering material are commercially available. This method of assembly can tear or reduce fiber density in the immediate area surrounding the staple punctures. Five N95 FFR models were evaluated to determine if staple punctures on the filter medium reduce the protection offered by the respirators.
Total penetrations were measured with the staple punctures intact and when stretching the head straps a distance equivalent to a 95% male head circumference. Filter penetration were measured by sealing the staple punctures. Aerosols of 200, 500, and 1000 nm were used to challenge …

Resilience In Nurses: An Integrative Review, Patricia L. Hart, Jane D. Brannan, Mary De Chesnay
Resilience In Nurses: An Integrative Review, Patricia L. Hart, Jane D. Brannan, Mary De Chesnay
Faculty Articles
Aim To describe nursing research that has been conducted to understand the phenomenon of resilience in nurses. Background Resilience is the ability to bounce back or cope successfully despite adverse circumstances. Nurses deal with modern-day problems that affect their abilities to remain resilient. Nursing administrators/managers need to look for solutions not only to recruit nurses, but to become knowledgeable about how to support and retain nurses. Evaluation A comprehensive search was undertaken for nursing research conducted between 1990 and 2011. Key search terms were nurse, resilience, resiliency and resilient. Whittemore and Knafl's integrative approach was used to conduct the methodological …
A Heterogeneous Compute Solution For Optimized Genomic Selection Analysis, Trevor Devore, Scott Kenneth Winkleblack, Bruce Golden, Chris Lupo
A Heterogeneous Compute Solution For Optimized Genomic Selection Analysis, Trevor Devore, Scott Kenneth Winkleblack, Bruce Golden, Chris Lupo
Computer Science and Software Engineering
This paper presents a heterogeneous computing solution for an optimized genetic selection analysis tool, GenSel. GenSel can be used to efficiently infer the effects of genetic markers on a desired trait or to determine the genomic estimated breeding values (GEBV) of genotyped individuals. To predict which genetic markers are informational, GenSel performs Bayesian inference using Gibbs sampling, a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) algorithm. Parallelizing this algorithm proves to be a technically challenging problem because there exists a loop carried dependence between each iteration of the Markov chain. The approach presented in this paper exploits both task-level parallelism (TLP) and …

Family Affairs Newsletter 2014-11-01, Zack Paakkonen
Family Affairs newsletter (2004-2016)
FAMILY AFFAIRS was a free, twice-a-month, social activities newsletter for the GLBTQI (gay/lesbian/bisexual/trans/queer/intersex) community, sent out around the 1st and 15th of each month. It covered the State of Maine only. The list was begun and maintained for many years by Jean Vermette in Bangor, and later operated by Zack Paakkonen of Portland. Over the years it evolved from a social activities newsletter into a business directory, classified ad service, and community bulletin board.

Local Health Department Collaborative Capacity To Improve Population Health, Hector P. Rodriguez, Jeffrey Mac Mccullough, Charleen Hsuan
Frontiers in Public Health Services and Systems Research
Local health departments (LHDs) can more effectively develop and strengthen community health partnerships when leaders focus on building partnership collaborative capacity (PCC), including a multisector infrastructure for population health improvement. Using the 2008 National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) Profile survey, we constructed an overall measure of LHD PCC comprised of the five dimensions: outcomes-based advocacy, vision-focus balance, systems orientation, infrastructure development, and community linkages. We conducted a series of regression analyses to examine the extent to which LHD characteristics and contextual factors were related to PCC. The most developed PCC dimension was vision-focus balance, while infrastructure …

Policymakers Identify Priorities For Phssr, Katherine Froeb Papa
Frontiers in Public Health Services and Systems Research
A major goal for the health services research community is to provide evidence policymakers can use to improve the public’s health. However, it can be difficult to know what evidence policymakers want and how they decide what research to fund.
In order to understand where policymakers turn for evidence and how they make funding decisions amid fiscal and political constraints, AcademyHealth conducted a 3-part Fireside Chat series in the spring of 2014. This editorial summarizes the evidence gaps identified, and provides strategies for communicating with decision makers.

The purpose of this project was to create an effective website for the Cal Poly Rodeo Program in order to improve communication with key audiences and ensure continued success for the organization. This website was intended to remain consistent with other Cal Poly websites, such as those listed on the Cal Poly College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences (CAFES) Student Life page under Clubs and Organizations, and was included on this page once created. A secondary purpose of the project was to give the Cal Poly Rodeo coach an easier way to recruit and contact potential student athletes. The …
Black Actresses In American Films: A History And Critical Analysis Of The Mammy/Maid Character, Valerie Coleman
Black Actresses In American Films: A History And Critical Analysis Of The Mammy/Maid Character, Valerie Coleman
College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences Theses and Dissertations
This thesis examines the history of the stereotypical mammy/maid characters in American films. The analysis serves to show the ongoing racialized casting of black women in domestic roles for over a century. Equally important, the analysis includes a discussion of how the black actresses who performed these roles thought about and negotiated them. The actresses themselves faced much criticism for their participation in and contributions to racial stereotyping, and this thesis seeks to show how these actresses understood and responded to such critiques.

Discovering Perceptions In Online Social Media: A Probabilistic Approach, Derek Doran, Swapna S. Gokhale, Aldo Dagnino
Kno.e.sis Publications
People across the world habitually turn to online social media to share their experiences, thoughts, ideas, and opinions as they go about their daily lives. These posts collectively contain a wealth of insights into how masses perceive their surroundings. Therefore, extracting people’s perceptions from social media posts can provide valuable information about pertinent issues such as public transportation, emergency conditions, and even reactions to political actions or other activities. This paper proposes a novel approach to extract such perceptions from a corpus of social media posts originating from a given broad geographical region. The approach divides the broad region into …

A New Image Watermarking Scheme Using Multi- Objective Bees Algorithm, Jiann-Shu Lee, Jing-Wein Wang, Kung-Yo Giang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
The optimization of watermarked image fidelity and watermark robustness is an attractive research topic in image watermarking. In this paper, we propose a new image watermarking scheme based on multi-objective bees algorithm to promote watermarking robustness as well as fidelity. In contrast with the existing genetic algorithms (GAs) based approaches utilizing single objective optimization, we treat the image watermarking as a multi-objective optimization problem. Based on this new perspective, the inherent conflict existing in image fidelity and watermark robustness for image watermarking can be objectively handled. The experimental study shows that our method indeed outperform the conventional GA-based approaches in …

Exploring Differences And Finding Connections In Archaeology And History Practice And Teaching In The Livingstone Museum And The University Of Zambia, 1973 To 2016, Francis B. Musonda
Zambia Social Science Journal
This article looks at the way archaeology and history have been practised and taught at the Livingstone Museum, Zambia and the University of Zambia in relation to each other as closely allied disciplines between 1973 and 2016. It identifies some of the areas in which they have either collaborated well, or need to do so, and those that set them apart in their common aim to study the past. The paper has identified a number of grey areas that have tended to be inimical to the advancement of the two institutions in their quest to advance the study of Zambia’s …
