Investigation Of Projectile Coherence Effects In Fully Differential Studies Of 75 Kev Proton - H₂ Collisions, Sachin Sharma
Investigation Of Projectile Coherence Effects In Fully Differential Studies Of 75 Kev Proton - H₂ Collisions, Sachin Sharma
Doctoral Dissertations
"Fully differential cross sections (FDCS) have been measured for single ionization of H2 by 75 keV proton impact with varying transverse coherence length of the projectiles. As reported in recent years, the scattering angle dependence of the doubly differential cross sections (DDCS) are significantly affected by the projectile coherence properties. The interference structures were observed for the coherent beam, however were absent for an incoherent beam. Interestingly, the FDCS measurements for fixed momentum transfer do not suggest significant differences between the coherent and incoherent cross sections. However, for the FDCS with fixed recoil-ion momentum, clear differences between the two …

Social Identity Theory As A Framework For Understanding The Effects Of Exposure To Positive Media Images Of Self And Other On Intergroup Outcomes, Christopher J. Mckinley, Dana Masto, Katie M. Warber
Social Identity Theory As A Framework For Understanding The Effects Of Exposure To Positive Media Images Of Self And Other On Intergroup Outcomes, Christopher J. Mckinley, Dana Masto, Katie M. Warber
College of Communication and Media Scholarship and Creative Works
Based on the tenets of social identity theory, a two-study experimental design was conducted which examined the influence of exposure to positive Latino media exemplars on ingroup (Latino) and outgroup (white) consumers. Specifically, the impact of exposure on interethnic evaluations as well as perceptions of self and other was evaluated. Results from Study 1 and Study 2 suggest that although exposure to positive media depictions of Latinos can prompt more favorable evaluations of ingroup and self among Latinos, the same cannot necessarily be said for the effects of exposure to affirmative messages on judgments about Latinos among outgroup members (i.e., …
Bioethics Mediation & The End Of Clinical Ethics As We Know It, Autumn Fiester
Bioethics Mediation & The End Of Clinical Ethics As We Know It, Autumn Fiester
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
In this Article, I will not only argue that bioethics mediation is a superior approach for resolving ethics conflicts, but I will also defend the controversial position that it is the only ethically justifiable method for resolving values-based conflicts in a pluralistic society. Although it has so far been relegated to the status of mere handmaiden to conventional consultation, bioethics mediation-as its detractors have surmised-has the potential to end clinical ethics consultation as we know it.
Chapter 9 Bankruptcy In California: The Efficacy Of Mandating Alternative Dispute Resolution In Municipal Bankruptcy Filings, Michael Galen
Chapter 9 Bankruptcy In California: The Efficacy Of Mandating Alternative Dispute Resolution In Municipal Bankruptcy Filings, Michael Galen
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
The subject of this Note is of importance to ADR practitioners: the incorporation of ADR into a new state law can mitigate a heated legal struggle involving state and federal law, while balancing the competing interests of powerful parties like local governments and large unions. This subject demonstrates the efficacy of ADR as applicable to bankruptcy law, a realm with which many ADR practitioners may be unfamiliar. This Note's case study focuses solely on California law and cases because California stands alone in its approach of mandating ADR as a precondition to a municipal bankruptcy filing. Since all states have …
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction: Using Restorative Justice To Satisfy Victims' Rights, Jessica M. Marshall
(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction: Using Restorative Justice To Satisfy Victims' Rights, Jessica M. Marshall
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
The responsibility of sentencing defendants is the most difficult task within the criminal justice system. As the Honorable Jed S. Rakoff noted above, a sentencing judge is faced with the role of taking a guilty defendant and determining what punishment her crime warrants. Incarceration? Probation? Time served? Each judge evaluates the specific offense's characteristics, such as the number of victims, amount of loss, and violence of the offense, against the specific offender's characteristics, such as family history, age, and military service. As part of this evaluation, the defendant, the Government, the Probation Office in the form of a Presentence Report, …
Prisoner Facilitated Mediation: Bringing Peace To Prisons And Communities, Laurel Kaufer, Douglas E. Noll, Jessica Mayer
Prisoner Facilitated Mediation: Bringing Peace To Prisons And Communities, Laurel Kaufer, Douglas E. Noll, Jessica Mayer
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
Prisons are too often places of conflict, violence, and fear. After spending years in such an environment Susan Russo and a group of like-minded inmates decided that they needed to take action. In 2007, Ms. Russo began sending over fifty handwritten letters to mediators throughout California, asking for assistance in setting up a conflict resolution program at the prison where she resided. Eventually, in 2009, one of her letters reached Laurel Kaufer, who, with her colleague Doug Noll, responded to Ms. Russo's request. Through their collaboration Prison of Peace ("POP") was born. POP employs an innovative method of prison conflict …
The War On Drugs Is Over (If You Want It): State Drug Courts As An Alternative To Criminal Courts For Low-Level Nonviolent Drug Offenders, Blake Courlang
The War On Drugs Is Over (If You Want It): State Drug Courts As An Alternative To Criminal Courts For Low-Level Nonviolent Drug Offenders, Blake Courlang
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
Part I of this Note describes the social, political, and legal reasons behind the rise of mandatory minimum sentencing in the 1980s and their path towards becoming advisory in the 2000s, as held by the Supreme Court in United States v. Booker. Part II provides a description of drug courts and argues for the use of drug courts as an alternative to the criminal sanctions for all nonviolent, low-level drug offenders. As part of this discussion, this Note examines the use of mandatory minimum sentencing post-Booker and the procedural method of divesting federal jurisdiction of nonviolent, low-level drug offenses …
Frcp 26 Vs. Fre 408: Why Settlement Negotiations Should Be Privileged Against Third-Party Discovery, Andrew Sher
Frcp 26 Vs. Fre 408: Why Settlement Negotiations Should Be Privileged Against Third-Party Discovery, Andrew Sher
Cardozo Journal of Conflict Resolution
This Note proposes that courts should recognize a settlementnegotiation privilege because it will incentivize parties to settle. Settling disputes is beneficial to the judicial system as it is more efficient and effective at resolving disputes than trying cases. Recognizing a settlement-negotiation privilege will increase the number of settlements by avoiding the free-rider problem that the Federal Circuit's approach in In re MSTG will create. Similarly, creating a settlement-negotiation privilege will avoid the uncertainty caused by not recognizing a privilege or requiring heightened standards for discovery. The confidentiality and certainty of a settlement-negotiation privilege will encourage parties to settle as well …

Therapists' Experiences Treating Clients With Dissociative Identity Disorder, Alexandra E. Paull
Therapists' Experiences Treating Clients With Dissociative Identity Disorder, Alexandra E. Paull
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
The purpose of this exploratory study was to collect qualitative data to examine what social workers describe as their experience working with clients who fit the diagnosis of Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). This study interviewed twelve licensed therapists through in person, phone, and skype interviews. These interviews explored the experience of their clinical work and its impact on them personally. Seven major themes were identified from coding the narrative data: the challenges and rewards of treatment, characteristics of the population, characteristics of the clinicians, treatment structure, what treating their first client with this disorder was like, misconceptions, and places current …
Exploring Clinicians' Use Of Evidence-Based Interventions That Treat Attachment Problems Between Children, Five Years Of Age And Under, And Their Primary Caregivers, Jean Faucher
Theses, Dissertations, and Projects
This exploratory quantitative study was an attempt to address the dearth of research regarding the use of attachment-focused evidence-based treatments (AF EBT) in the clinical setting. Thirty-eight Master’s level or higher licensed mental health clinicians who work with children that are five years old and under, as well as with their primary caregivers, were surveyed via an anonymous web based questionnaire. The survey explored clinicians’ level of awareness, training, use, adaptation, and perceived effectiveness regarding four AF EBTs, as well as potential barriers that may have impeded their use. The AF EBTs were Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-UP …
Strategies Towards Dignity In The Experience Of Poverty Among Two Predominantly African-American Seventh-Day Adventist Churches In Birmingham, Alabama, Roy E. Gaiter Sr.
Strategies Towards Dignity In The Experience Of Poverty Among Two Predominantly African-American Seventh-Day Adventist Churches In Birmingham, Alabama, Roy E. Gaiter Sr.
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. African Americans have a higher rate of poverty than any ethnic group. The dearth of dignity through slavery and beyond became a societal pathway to poverty. Seventh-day Adventist African Americans in Birmingham Alabama are not exempt from this predicament. The Norwood and Ephesus Seventh-day Adventist churches are located in the midst of communities of poverty. Some members live in these and other poverty distressed areas. This study is to determine the extent of poverty and the lack of dignity of members of these two predominantly African American churches. The church community is uniquely positioned to share the message that …
Addressing Reasons For Members' Non-Attendance At The Elmhurst Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Glenn Paul Hill
Addressing Reasons For Members' Non-Attendance At The Elmhurst Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Glenn Paul Hill
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. By 2010, when this project began, the Elmhurst Seventh-day Adventist Church (ESDA) had 199 members (December 2009 clerk’s records). Yet ongoing, direct observation indicated that 122 of these (61%) were attending the church service fewer than six times per year. Only 66 of the members (33%) were attending at least once a month—a fact partially obscured by the routine presence of visitors. The underlying reasons for their regular absence remained unknown due to insufficient personal contact. As a result, it was not possible to define the kinds of meaningful ministry that would best serve the non-attending majority.
Method. Eight, …
Potomac Conference Adcom Team Transitional Journey From Hierarchical To Servant Leadership, William K. Miller
Potomac Conference Adcom Team Transitional Journey From Hierarchical To Servant Leadership, William K. Miller
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. The research of Wong and Page (2003) has suggested that no denominational church leadership models utilize a biblical servant leadership model. Most denominational leadership models utilize some form of an authoritarian hierarchical model. This suggests the need for a curriculum that can assist a denominational leadership team to transition to a biblical servant leadership model.
Methodology. This project utilized a qualitative methodology. A curriculum was developed utilizing assessments, seminars, coaching, and group feedback in order to create an environment to transition to a biblical servant leadership model for the Potomac Conference ADCOM team.
Results. There were seven members of …
Mentoring And Discipling The Early Adolescents Of The Kitchener-Waterloo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Jiwan S. Moon
Mentoring And Discipling The Early Adolescents Of The Kitchener-Waterloo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Jiwan S. Moon
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
From 1951 to 2001, at the Kitchener-Waterloo Seventh-day Adventist Church, only one family from the founding generation has its children and grandchildren attending and active in the church. Most of the second and third generation members of the church who once attended, no longer practice their inherited Adventist religious beliefs. As the church membership was aging, the church was dying and membership continued to decrease, especially the number of young people. It was becoming evident that the church needed intervention to prevent continuous loss of members. In order to prevent a repeat of history, there was a need for …

Estrategias De Retencion De Miembros Para La Iglesia Central Hispana Adventista Del Septimo Dia De Chicago, Ernesto R. Sanchez
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. Although baptisms are performed several times through the year and members are received through transfers, attendance to church services are very low in the Central Hispanic Seventh-day Adventist Church of Chicago. The growth is unnoticeable, according to the church records of baptisms and professions of faith. Member transfer requests to other churches are very common and also many members need to be disaffiliated. The objective of this study is to discover the factors that influence the low retention of members in the Central Hispanic Seventh-day Adventist Church, and develop some strategies to support the conservation of people and yielding …
Using A Small Group Approach To Increase Church Growth In The Gikondo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Schadrack Nsengimana
Using A Small Group Approach To Increase Church Growth In The Gikondo Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Schadrack Nsengimana
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem.
Although many people are baptized at the Gikondo Seventh-day Adventist Church each year, about 70% leave the church shortly after baptism.
Method.
The biblical principles of church growth were studied and theological reflection focused on four biblical themes. First, the call to integrate the Great Commission into the daily life and relationships of the individual believer in Christ was examined. Second, church growth as faithfulness to God was explored as a biblical teaching. Third, the view that a healthy church embraces multiplication of disciples as its core responsibility was studied from a biblical perspective. Fourth, the role of the …
A Strategy To Present The Concept Of Headship: Healing Families In The North Burundi Mission, Ndikubwayo Joseph
A Strategy To Present The Concept Of Headship: Healing Families In The North Burundi Mission, Ndikubwayo Joseph
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem. The headship of a husband over a wife is one of the concepts that creates a lot of misunderstanding in some Seventh-day Adventist homes in the North Burundi Mission. This situation has impacted both families and the church. On one hand, a husband believes he is to be strong, that he is the only one who can think logically, and that he should make all the decisions for the household. On other hand, a woman is considered to be weak, and therefore must respect her husband, have babies, and keep quiet. Unfortunately many women show respect out of fear …
A Biblical Hiv/Aids Mitigation Strategy In The Oyugis Central Adventist Church, Kenya, Tom Eli Arunga Ogal
A Biblical Hiv/Aids Mitigation Strategy In The Oyugis Central Adventist Church, Kenya, Tom Eli Arunga Ogal
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
HIV/AIDS is an epidemic that has and continues to adversely impact the quality of life of not only the members of the Oyugis Central Seventh-day Adventist Church, but of the community in general. Its negative impact touches the social, economic, political, and demographic fabric of society. It is robbing the Adventist Church and society in general of requisite human resource through death and sickness, and is adversely challenging the church’s competencies to effectively engage in its mission.
Method
The Logical Framework Approach (LFA) was used to present the strategy. A Gantt chart was also be used to detail the …
The Impact Of Politics On Churches In The Rift Valley, Lucas Otwera
The Impact Of Politics On Churches In The Rift Valley, Lucas Otwera
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Kenya has been experiencing political violence since 1992, with people from different ethnic backgrounds being forced to vacate certain regions perceived to be territories of a particular tribe. The position of the President has been the most fought over governmental position, for people want to elect one from their own tribe. The situation has caused disunity among the members of society, especially during electioneering periods and thereafter. Kenya also has people who are labeled as Internally Displaced People (IDPs) because of recent post-election violence. There are approximately 40 different tribes in Kenya, speaking different indigenous languages. This perennial problem …
Health And Social Ministries: A Holistic Approach To Ministering In Contemporary Society, Ezekiel Adeyemi Oyinloye
Health And Social Ministries: A Holistic Approach To Ministering In Contemporary Society, Ezekiel Adeyemi Oyinloye
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
It has been observed for thirty years that Adventists conventional way of doing outreach ministries especially in the cities, fail to have expected response that fulfills goals. Attitudes of people are apathetic and reserved they stand aloof and are removed from sharing in what has been offered. They cannot be bothered. The inner city of Ibadan especially displays this type of attitude. Thus, inner city Ibadan has remained unentered by the Adventists since the inception of the Church in Ibadan a century ago. There is no single church of the Seventh-day Adventists in inner city Ibadan.

An Adventist Functional Substitute For Initiation Rites Of Passage For Kikuyu Boys And Abagusii Girls In Kenya, John Macharia Gichuiri
An Adventist Functional Substitute For Initiation Rites Of Passage For Kikuyu Boys And Abagusii Girls In Kenya, John Macharia Gichuiri
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Many boys who undergo circumcision as a rite of passage in the Kikuyu community in Kenya are secluded for two weeks while they heal. During this period their parents are barred by the culture from seeing their sons and the boys are left entirely to the influence of their peers, who introduce them to all manner of vices like smoking tobacco, bhang, drinking alcohol, taking drugs of addiction, chewing of miraa, pre-marital sexual activities, and recruitment to illegal gangs. These vices negatively affect the boys’ spiritual growth and expose them to physical, mental, social, and emotional health risks. An …

A Strategy To Increase The Retention Of Members In The Nyaguta District, Paul G. Kiage
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
According to a report given at the 2010 year-end church board meeting that was conducted in the Nyaguta district of the South Kenya Conference, more than 40 percent of the members baptized each year drop out from the church.
Method
The current nurturing programs in the Nyaguta District churches were reviewed to see whether they were effective. A questionnaire was administered to the focus groups to obtain information. Seminar materials on membership retention from the Bible, the writings of E. G. White, and other Christian writers were developed and a series of seminars were conducted to train a group …
A Strategy To Increase Membership Among The Xhosa-Speaking People In Zimbabwe, Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu
A Strategy To Increase Membership Among The Xhosa-Speaking People In Zimbabwe, Sikhumbuzo Ndlovu
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Seventh-day Adventist membership among the Xhosa-speaking people in Zimbabwe (a minority ethno-linguistic group) is very low. The Seventh-day Adventist presence among the Xhosa-speaking people in this particular area has been minimal. This trend has led to a lot of frustration in the planning and implementation of outreach programs among this people group. The problem is that in spite of the outreach programs conducted for the Xhosa, the response of the community remains relatively low as compared to other ethnic groups in the same area.
Method
A theological study on reaching the unreached was developed and formulated from a review …
A Strategy To Create A More Meaningful Worship Experience In The Sony Seventh-Day Adventist Church In The Ranen Conference, Duncan Odhiambo Mumbo
A Strategy To Create A More Meaningful Worship Experience In The Sony Seventh-Day Adventist Church In The Ranen Conference, Duncan Odhiambo Mumbo
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Some members of the Sony Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Ranen Conference skip worship services claiming that the services are boring and do not meet their spiritual needs. They claim that the services are always the same and too traditional, hence their reason for not attending regularly. At times some members attend Pentecostal services on Sundays to experience more meaningful worship. This study was to develop and implement a program for a more meaningful worship experience during the worship services in the Sony Adventist Church of the Ranen Conference so as to encourage members to attend worship services regularly. …
Empowering Volunteers For Community-Focused Ministry For Families Of Inmates: Selected Churches Of The Potomac Conference, Jorge A. Ramirez
Empowering Volunteers For Community-Focused Ministry For Families Of Inmates: Selected Churches Of The Potomac Conference, Jorge A. Ramirez
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
Nearly 70% of churches in the Potomac Conference do not have ministries that are geared at serving their communities. As a result of this problem, churches are not growing and are not making a significant impact in their communities. They have become internally focused congregations. Churches are missing opportunities to develop meaningful relationships with these communities through creative externally focused ministries. Externally focused churches believe God has called them to change communities for God’s kingdom. There is a need for churches in the Potomac Conference to become externally focused.
Methodology
The recruiting and training of church volunteers to serve …
Seminar For Improving Marital Satisfaction In The New Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Antigua/Barbuda, Mark Lincoln Braithwaite
Seminar For Improving Marital Satisfaction In The New Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church In Antigua/Barbuda, Mark Lincoln Braithwaite
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
The New Bethel Seventh-day Adventist Church in Antigua and Barbuda had four marriage enrichment seminars, covering general topics, between 2006 and 2010. However, based on my observations the marital satisfaction of those who attended did not appear to improve as a result of these seminars. Matters such as commitment, communication issues, and handling conflict seemed to be the major factors which accounted for low marital satisfaction. The development of a seminar to address these specific needs was thought to be advantageous.
Method
A weekend seminar entitled, “Committed to my Spouse” was developed and presented in August 2013. A didactic …
A Conflict Resolution Program For The New Life, Warner Robins, Georgia, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Everton Alphonso Ennis
A Conflict Resolution Program For The New Life, Warner Robins, Georgia, Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Everton Alphonso Ennis
Doctor of Ministry Projects
Problem
In December 2008, the membership of the New Life Seventh-day Adventist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia, was listed at 120. In actuality, however, there was only about one half of that number of members and guests attending on a regular basis. Over the next two years the church experienced a further decline in membership attendance. As of December 31, 2010, the voted membership stood at 58. Two key identifiable factors were responsible for the reduced membership. First, a necessary membership audit was undertaken. Second, there were additional losses due to damaging congregational conflict. A history of disunity, an offensive …
