OLAP (On Line Analytical Processing) is a set of techniques and operators to facilitate the analysis of data that are usually stored in a specialized database known as data warehouse. Data is analyzed in order to provide information about a particular business subject called fact, for example, crimes, sales, shipments, among others. In this paper, we extend the functionality of an OLAP operator, known as map cube, with the definition and incorporation of a function called Trajectory. This function allows the analysts extract the trajectory followed by a set of facts. For example, the trajectory of crimes of each suspect, …

Design For Several Hydraulic Parameters Of A Quadruped Robot, Xuewen Rong, Yibin Li, Jian Meng, Bin Li
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
For a quadruped robot with 12 active joints driven by linear hydraulic actuators, some important parameters, such as the oil flow of the hydraulic system and the needed maximum output force of each actuator, are hard to calculate precisely with kinematics and dynamics equations. The oil flow is mainly determined by the walking speed of the quadruped robot, but also influenced by the stride frequency, gait type and the foot trajectory. This paper planned the foot trajectory with cubic polynomial firstly. Then selected optimal stride frequency referred to that of four-legged mammals and stride length according to the required walking …

Leadership And Loneliness, Ami Rokach
Leadership And Loneliness, Ami Rokach
International Journal of Leadership and Change
This article addresses leadership and loneliness and examines the interaction of these two constructs. The literature suggests that leaders (educational, state, business, and organizational) endure stress, alienation, loneliness, and emotional turmoil. These may lead to health problems and negatively affect social and familial relationships as well. The interaction of leadership and loneliness will be highlighted. Relevant literature will be reviewed on leadership and its characteristics and effects on those who succeed and get to the “top.” Loneliness will be examined and how it may affect people in general, and leaders in particular; the article will close with suggested strategies as …

Vulnerability And Power In The Age Of The Anthropocene, Angela P. Harris
Vulnerability And Power In The Age Of The Anthropocene, Angela P. Harris
Washington and Lee Journal of Energy, Climate, and the Environment
Feminist legal theorist Martha Fineman has suggested that recognition of universal human “vulnerability” should be the starting point for thinking about the state’s obligations to its citizens. This Article argues that Fineman’s concept of vulnerability is valuable for situating political and legal theory within a concern for the natural world. We live in what some scientists have dubbed the Anthropocene—an age in which our collective behavior has serious implications for the flourishing of all life on earth. The concept of “ecological vulnerability” recognizes that humans are vulnerable not only because they age, become ill, and die, but because their survival …

Dr. Carb Or: How I Learned To Stop Worrying About The Feds And Love States’ Rights, Dan Strong
Washington and Lee Journal of Energy, Climate, and the Environment
Climate change is one of the largest environmental problems the world is currently facing. At the forefront of the climate change issue is the problem of carbon emissions. Environmentalists were hopeful that a national regulatory structure would be created with the enactment of the Clean Air Act in the 1970s. Since its enactment, however, it is clear the Clean Air Act was not the solution to the national carbon emissions problem environmentalists were hoping for. With the federal government failing to act, states have taken it upon themselves to regulate carbon emissions. California, with its enactment of the California Low …

Managing Free Trade In Early Modern Europe: Institutions, Information, And The Free Port Of Livorno, Corey Tazzara
Managing Free Trade In Early Modern Europe: Institutions, Information, And The Free Port Of Livorno, Corey Tazzara
Scripps Faculty Publications and Research
In November 1644, the ship captain Sebastiane Ferro arrived at the Tuscan port of Livomo with a cargo of wine. Even before requesting the pratica of the portentry for the purpose of trade-he asked to receive the exemptions of Livomo, "to be sure that in corning onto land he not be molested either in his person or in his goods for civil debts contracted in foreign states." Technically, these exemptions were restricted to inhabitants of the city. Nonetheless, the Customs Office routinely granted them even to temporary visitors of what was Europe's premier free port, and in this case Customs …

They combine online resources with social tools and have unique challenges due to the large number of simultaneous participants. This paper analyzes some of the challenges in the areas of MOOC design, delivery and assessment. Then the authors present an approach using software agents to overcome some of the challenges that have been identified, as well as optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and ensure the pedagogical effectiveness and educational quality of large scale online learning courses. This paper is a first step towards research in the usage of …
Global Exponential Stability Of Periodic Solutions For A Nicholson’S Blowflies Model With A Linear Harvesting Term, Ani Jiang
Applied Mathematics & Information Sciences
In this paper, we study a generalized Nicholson’s blowflies model with a linear harvesting term, which is defined on the positive function space. Under proper conditions, we employ a novel proof to establish some criteria for the existence and global exponential stability of positive periodic solutions for this model. Moreover, we give an example and its numerical simulations to illustrate our main results.

The chicken egg genotoxicity assay (CEGA), which utilizes the liver of an intact and aseptic embryo-fetal test organism, was evaluated using four activation-dependent DNA-reactive carcinogens and four structurally related less potent carcinogens or non-carcinogens. In the assay, three daily doses of test substances were administered to eggs containing 9-11-day-old fetuses and the fetal livers were assessed for two endpoints, DNA breaks using the alkaline single cell gel electrophoresis (comet) assay and DNA adducts using the (32)P-nucleotide postlabeling (NPL) assay. The effects of four carcinogens of different structures requiring distinct pathways of bioactivation, i.e., 2-acetylaminofluorene (AAF), aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), benzo[a]pyrene (B[a]P), …
Women After War: Weaving Nostos In Homeric Epic And In The Twenty-First Century, Corinne Ondine Pache
Women After War: Weaving Nostos In Homeric Epic And In The Twenty-First Century, Corinne Ondine Pache
Classical Studies Faculty Research
While women play a circumscribed role in ancient epic, Homer's Odyssey depicts both Helen and Penelope as undergoing their own forms of homecoming, or nostos, after the Trojan War: Helen returns to her husband Menelaus after experiencing the war firsthand at Troy and a ten-year separation; Penelope stays home, but Odysseus' return is in many ways as much a challenge for her as it is for him and the Odyssey portrays her domestic ordeal as a form of heroic nostos. In this essay, I explore female ways of homecoming in the Odyssey and draw connections between Homeric heroines …

Business Process Reengineering (BPR) deals with fundamental organizational change, or is the great-leap approach to redesigning and retooling. It seeks to bring a radical approach to creating a breakthrough in organizations trapped in outmoded and outdated business processes. Top managers and consultants design new ways of doing things and force companies to go beyond continuous improvement of existing products, services, and processes. Though innovative, BPR is being challenged by some companies looking for a strategic remedy that will contribute to the sustainable improvement of their performance and quality, add value for their customers while minimizing cost and eliminating waste. Is Creep Feeding Lambs A Profitable Undertaking?, Donald G. Ely, Endre Fink
Agriculture and Natural Resources Publications
Creep feeding is a technique of providing feed to nursing lambs to supplement the milk they consume. Creep-fed lambs grow faster than noncreep-feds and are more aggressive in nursing ewes. This aggression stimulates greater ewe milk production which, in turn, increases creep feed intake because these lambs will be bigger at a given age.

A Proposed Reconciliation Of Stakeholder Interests In The Ge Soybean Industry And Role Of Earth Jurisprudence Principles, Kristen N. King Jaiven
A Proposed Reconciliation Of Stakeholder Interests In The Ge Soybean Industry And Role Of Earth Jurisprudence Principles, Kristen N. King Jaiven
Florida A & M University Law Review
The historical art of seed saving ensured farmers would have enough quality seeds for the following season. Traditional and indigenous farmers mastered seed saving techniques, saving the healthiest and strongest seeds to ensure preservation of seed diversity and adequate crop yields. To provide adequate protection and meet maximum sustainability for all interested parties, it is essential that laws governing the soybean industry consider the soybean as a stakeholder.
