New Data About Ptyctimous Mites (Acari, Oribatida) In Polish Palm Houses, Wojciech Niedbala

In samples collected in 2012 at the palm house in Poznan, 5 species of ptyctimous mites were found; 3 of them were native species (Mesotritia nuda, Euphthiracarus cribrarius, Acrotritia ardua) and 2 were exotic species, pantropical Microtritia tropica and neotropical Phthiracarus phoxos. In the samples from the palm house in Lodz, 3 species were found; 2 of them were known from the palm house in Poznan (Acrotritia ardua and Phthiracarus ferrugineus), and the third has not been reported from Poland before: the very rare species Mesoplophora michaeliana, known so far from the southern part of the Western Palearctic. A New Species Of The Genus Dinotrema Foerster (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Alysiinae) From Turkey, Maximilian Fischer, Gregory Thomas Sullivan, İsmai̇l Karaca, Sebahat Sullivan

A new species of the genus Dinotrema Foerster is reported from the Samsun region on the central Black Sea coast of Turkey. The genus generally parasitizes flies and ranks among the most species-rich taxa of the Braconidae. Morphological details of the new species Dinotrema samsunense Fischer & Sullivan are described, figured, and compared taxonomically with the most closely related species.

In this paper, the current status of the species diversity of 13 phyla, namely Platyhelminthes, Xenacoelomorpha, Nematoda, Acanthocephala, Myxozoa, Tardigrada, Cephalorhyncha, Nemertea, Echiura, Brachiopoda, Phoronida, Chaetognatha, and Chordata (invertebrates, only Tunicata, Cephalochordata, and Hemichordata) along the coasts of Turkey is reviewed. The present paper provides an updated taxonomic list of sipunculan species known from the coasts of Turkey. A total of 21 species belonging to 5 families have been reported from the region. Eighteen species were determined in the Levantine Sea, 17 species in the Aegean Sea, 6 species in the Sea of Marmara, and a single species in the Black Sea. The family Golfingiidae had the majority of species (8 species, 38%), followed by Phascolosomatidae (5 species, 24%), Aspidosiphonidae (4 species, 19%), Phascolionidae (3 species, 14%), and Sipunculidae (1 species, 5%), respectively. Turkish Journal of Zoology
The phylum Bryozoa includes a total of 185 species reported from the Turkish coasts of the Levantine Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Sea of Marmara, and the Black Sea. The class Gymnolaemata is represented by 159 species, followed by the class Stenolaemata (26 species). While the Aegean Sea had the highest species richness (139 species), the lowest bryozoan diversity (8 species) was reported from the Black Sea coast of Turkey. Only 2 alien species, Celleporaria brunnea and Rhynchozoon larreyi, were recorded from the Turkish coasts.

This study presents the molluscan species diversity along the Turkish coasts. The compilation of the available references revealed a total of 1065 species belonging to 7 classes (Caudofoveata, Solenogastres, Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, Bivalvia, Scaphopoda, and Cephalopoda). Most of the reported species belong to the class Gastropoda (706 species), followed by Bivalvia (279 species), Cephalopoda (50 species), Polyplacophora (17 species), Scaphopoda (10 species), Caudofoveata (2 species), and Solenogastres (1 species). This study compiled the data from previous papers emphasizing sponge species on the Turkish coasts. In total, 131 species belonging to 46 families have been reported: 82 species from the Aegean Sea, 63 species from the Sea of Marmara, 51 species from the Levantine Sea, and 13 species from the Black Sea. Among these species, 3 species are new records for the marine fauna of Turkey: Rhizaxinella elongata, Axinyssa digitata, and Terpios gelatinosa. This paper presents the actual status of species diversity of the phyla Cnidaria and Ctenophora along the Turkish coasts of the Black Sea, the Sea of Marmara, the Aegean Sea, and the Levantine Sea. A total of 195 cnidarian species belonging to 5 classes (Hydrozoa, Cubozoa, Scyphozoa, Staurozoa, and Anthozoa) have been determined in these regions. The compilation of papers on marine annelids along the coasts of Turkey together with new records of species (24 species) presented in this study yielded a total of 721 species belonging to 2 classes (Polychaeta and Clitellata), 60 families, and 352 genera. Polychaeta were represented by 705 species, Oligochaeta by 13 species, and Hirudinea by 3 species. Syllidae (119 species) and Serpulidae (56 species) were the species-rich polychaete families. According to the benthic studies on echinoderms inhabiting the coasts of Turkey, a total of 91 echinoderm species belonging to 5 classes have been reported. The Aegean Sea coast is represented by the highest number of species (76 species), followed by the Sea of Marmara (64 species), the Levantine Sea (51 species), and the Black Sea (17 species). This recent checklist of marine arthropods found on the coasts of Turkey represents a total of 1531 species belonging to 7 classes: Malacostraca (766 species), Maxillopoda (437 species), Ostracoda (263 species), Pycnogonida (27 species), Arachnida (26 species), Branchiopoda (7 species), and Insecta (5 species). Seventy-five species were classified as alien species in the region. This paper also includes the first record of the amphipod Melita valesi from the Levantine coast of Turkey (Kaş, Gulf of Antalya).

The current status of marine fishes distributed along the Turkish coasts is reviewed and an updated checklist including 512 species is presented. The effects of temperature, dissolved oxygen, nitrate, phosphate, and chlorophyll-\alpha concentration on the body length and egg production of a cyclopoid copepod, Thermocyclops crassus, and a calanoid, Eudiaptomus drieschi, were evaluated. Sampling was conducted in Yenişehir Lake (Hatay, Turkey) on a monthly basis between May 2003 and April 2004. The results of the present study showed that, among the parameters considered, temperature and chlorophyll-\alpha concentration were the main parameters influencing the body length of T. crassus and E. drieschi in Yenişehir Lake. For E. drieschi, egg production was also affected by chlorophyll-\alpha levels.

The rhythms of the Northern Shoveller's (Anas clypeata Linnaeus, 1758) activities during its wintering period in 2 wetlands, Garaet Hadj-Tahar (North-East Algeria) and Garaet Timerganine (Oum El-Bouaghi, Algerian highlands), were studied during 2 wintering seasons in Garaet Hadj-Tahar from November 2007 to March 2008 and November 2008 to March 2009, and in the Timerganine wetland from November 2007 to March 2008. They were linked to certain spatiotemporal variables, i.e. daytime activities and 2 different wetlands. Reclamation was considered the primary factor that caused coastal wetland loss in China. Along with land conversion, there were different types of land cover on the reclaimed coast. In early March 2012, we selected 5 habitats with different land cover from a reclaimed coastal area at Yancheng City that was diked about 30 years before, and the biodiversity and composition variations in soil macrofauna communities were studied. We found that higher biodiversity values appeared in the uncultivated land, the poplar forest, and the metasequoia forest, while lower values occurred in the wheat farm and bulrush land. The distribution of nucleolar organizer regions (NORs) in Nannospalax ehrenbergi from Iraq was determined for the first time. In the karyotype of N. ehrenbergi the diploid number, fundamental number, and fundamental autosomal number were 52, 76, and 72, respectively. NORs occur in the telomeric regions of submetacentric and acrocentric autosome pairs.

The markhor (Capra falconeri) is endangered globally as well as in Pakistan. The Chitral district in Pakistan supports one of the largest populations of this species. The rural communities of the district have large holdings of livestock, which make up a significant part of their livelihood system. The domestic goat is the dominant livestock species, and a potential competitor with the markhor due to habitat overlap. The objective of this study was to determine the abundance and biomass of microbial loop components in 2 lakes of different trophic status. The lakes (mesotrophic and eutrophic ones) were located in the Leczna-Wlodawa Lakeland. The effect of selected physical and chemical water parameters on this group of organisms was also analyzed. Psammon samples were collected during 3 seasons: spring, summer, and autumn 2011. In each of the lakes, samples were collected in the euarenal, higroarenal, and hydroarenal zones. A total of 625 fish belonging to 25 fish species were collected from the coastal areas of the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey and were examined for fish parasites. The number of specimens of fish parasites collected included 242 digeneans (23 Anisocoelium capitellatum, 12 Anisocladium gracile, 50 Anisocladium fallax, 1 Stephanostomum minutum, 131 Helicometra fasciata, and 25 Lecithochirium musculus) and 517 cestodes (437 Grillotia erinaceus, 79 Progrillotia dasyatidis, and 1 Scolex pleuronectis). A Study Of The Genus Empidideicus Becker, 1907 (Diptera: Mythicomyiidae) In Northern Iran, With Description Of A New Species, Saeedeh Hakimian, Ali Asghar Talebi, Babak Gharali, Neal Evenhuis

The genus Empidideicus Becker, 1907 (Diptera: Mythicomyiidae) was studied in 2 provinces of northern Iran (Tehran and Ghazvin provinces). Six species were collected and identified. A new species, Empidideicus formosus Hakimian, Talebi, & Gharali sp. nov., is described and its diagnostic characters are illustrated. This species is closely related to E. unicus Gharali & Evenhuis, 2011, but it is easily distinguished by the almost all-yellow prescutellar area and striated female spermathecal reservoirs.

Sex ratios, size frequency, and reproductive patterns of blood cockle Anadara antiquata were studied from Sonmiani and Phitti Creek, Pakistan, from May 2004 to April 2005. At both sites, the overall sex ratio was significantly in favor of females. The population of A. antiquata at Sonmiani consisted of cockles of 31-80 mm in size and that at Phitti Creek of 21-100 mm in size; however, the majority of specimens were of 51-70 mm in size at both sites. Eriosomatinae, the gall-forming aphid subfamily, traditionally consists of 3 tribes, Eriosomatini, Pemphigini, and Fordini. However, the phylogenetic relationships among these tribes remain controversial, which has made it difficult to conduct further investigation regarding the evolution of galls and host alternations in this group. We analyzed the molecular phylogeny of the subfamily Eriosomatinae, combining sequences from 2 mitochondrial genes (COI and COII) and 2 nuclear genes (EF-1\alpha and LWO). The goal of the present study was to assess which variables influence the distribution of birds in urban parks. Twenty parks were studied in a city on the Spanish high plateau during the breeding season, and relationships among park characteristics, bird richness, and individual bird presences were established. The park area and tree cover accounted for 73.1% of the variation in bird richness. Although area size was the best predictor of species richness (65% of the variation), some species did not seem to be related to this variable but rather to others, such as vegetation and the degree of park …

Length-weight relationships (LWRs) were determined for 14 fish species from the Gulf Antalya along the northeastern Mediterranean Sea coast of Turkey. Samples were collected using bottom trawl at depths varying from 25 to 150 m. The parameters a and b from the LWR formula W = aL^b were estimated. The values of the exponent b of the length-weight relationships ranged from 2.513 to 3.465. A study on the morphological diversity of the genus Mugil of the lagoons Ebrié and Grand-Lahou was carried out in order to differentiate species of Mugilidae in Côte d'Ivoire. Univariate and multivariate analyses of 40 metric and 11 meristic characters identified 3 homogeneous groups. This phenotypic plasticity within the genus Mugil allowed differentiating the species Mugil curema, M. bananensis, and M. cephalus.
