Several New Families Of Jarratt’S Method For Solving Systems Of Nonlinear Equations, V. Kanwar, Sanjeev Kumar, Ramandeep Behl Dec 2013

Several New Families Of Jarratt’S Method For Solving Systems Of Nonlinear Equations, V. Kanwar, Sanjeev Kumar, Ramandeep Behl

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this study, we suggest and analyze a new and wide general class of Jarratt’s method for solving systems of nonlinear equations. These methods have fourth-order convergence and do not require the evaluation of any second or higher-order Fréchet derivatives. In terms of computational cost, all these methods require evaluations of one function and two first-order Fréchet derivatives. The performance of proposed methods is compared with their closest competitors in a series of numerical experiments. It is worth mentioning that all the methods considered here are found to be effective and comparable to the robust methods available in the literature.

A Note On The Qualitative Behavior Of Some Second Order Nonlinear Equation, Juan E. Nápoles Valdes Dec 2013

A Note On The Qualitative Behavior Of Some Second Order Nonlinear Equation, Juan E. Nápoles Valdes

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we present two qualitative results concerning the solutions of some second order nonlinear equations, under suitable assumptions. The first result centers on the boundedness of the solutions while the second discusses the square integrability of the solutions. These results are obtained by extending and improving the current literature through sound mathematical analysis.

Analysis Of Mixed Correlated Bivariate Negative Binomial And Continuous Responses, F. Razie, E. B. Samani, M. Ganjali

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

A general model for the mixed correlated negative binomial and continuous responses is proposed. It is shown how to construct parameter of the models, using the maximization of the full likelihood. Influence of a small perturbation of correlation parameter of the model on the likelihood displacement is also studied. The model is applied to a medical data, obtained from an observational study on women, where the correlated responses are the negative binomial response of joint damage and continuous responses of body mass index. Simultaneous effects of some covariates on both responses are investigated.

Dispersion Of A Solute In Hartmann Two-Fluid Flow Between Two Parallel Plates, J. P. Kumar, J. C. Umavathi Dec 2013

Dispersion Of A Solute In Hartmann Two-Fluid Flow Between Two Parallel Plates, J. P. Kumar, J. C. Umavathi

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The paper presents an analytical solution for the dispersion of a solute in a conducting immiscible fluid flowing between two parallel plates in the presence of a transverse magnetic field. The fluids in both the regions are incompressible, electrically conducting and the transport properties are assumed to be constant. The channel walls are assumed to be electrically insulating. Separate solutions for each fluid are obtained and these solutions are matched at the interface using suitable matching conditions. The results are tabulated for various values of viscosity ratio, pressure gradient and Hartman number on the effective Taylor dispersion coefficient and volumetric …

Analytic Solution For The Drainage Of Sisko Fluid Film Down A Vertical Belt, A. M. Siddiqui, Hameed Ashraf, T. Haroon, A. Walait

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper deals with the drainage of Sisko fluid film down a vertical belt. It provides an approximate solution of the resulting non-linear and inhomogeneous ordinary differential equation using perturbation method (PM) and Adomian decomposition method (ADM). Comparison of the results obtained by both methods demonstrate that these series solutions are strictly identical but ADM is easy to compute and can be extended to any higher order. The important physical quantities like velocity profile, volume flow rate, average film velocity, shear stress, force exerted by the fluid film and vorticity vector are derived. The effects of fluid behaviour index, Stokes …

Mathematical Modelling Of Blood Flow Through Catheterized Artery Under The Influence Of Body Acceleration With Slip Velocity, S. U. Siddiqui, Sapna Geeta

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The flow of blood through stenosed catheterized artery with the effect of external body acceleration has been considered. The pulsatile flow behaviour of blood in an artery subjected to the pulsatile pressure gradient and slip velocity has been studied considering blood as a Newtonian fluid. The non-linear differential equations governing the fluid flow are solved using the perturbation method. The analytic expressions are derived for the velocity profile, flow rate, wall shear stress and effective viscosity. The computer codes are developed for the analysis of physiological parameters. The effects of various parameters on blood flow are discussed through graphs. It …

Certain Fractional Integral Operators And The Generalized Incomplete Hypergeometric Functions, H. M. Srivastava, Praveen Agarwal

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we apply a certain general pair of operators of fractional integration involving Appell’s function F3 in their kernel to the generalized incomplete hypergeometric functions pΓq[z] and pɣq [z], which were introduced and studied systematically by Srivastava et al. in the year 2012. Some interesting special cases and consequences of our main results are also considered.

The Mx/G/1 Queue With Unreliable Server, Delayed Repairs, And Bernoulli Vacation Schedule Under T-Policy, L. Tadj, G. Choudhury

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper we study a batch arrival queuing system. The server may break down while delivering service. However, repair is not provided immediately, rather it is delayed for a random amount of time. At the end of service, the server may process the next customer if any are available, or may take a vacation to execute some other job. Finally, the server implements the T-policy. We describe for this system an optimal management policy. Numerical examples are provided.

Relation Between Hilbert Algebras And Be–Algebras, A. Rezaei, A. B. Saeid, R. A. Borzooei

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Hilbert algebras are introduced for investigations in intuitionistic and other non - classical logics and BE -algebra is a generalization of dual BCK -algebra. In this paper, we investigate the relationship between Hilbert algebras and BE -algebras. In fact, we show that a commutative implicative BE -algebra is equivalent to the commutative self distributive BE -algebra, therefore Hilbert algebras and commutative self distributive BE -algebras are equivalent.

Modelling The Role Of Cloud Density On The Removal Of Gaseous Pollutants And Particulate Matters From The Atmosphere, Shyam Sundar, Rajan K. Sharma, Ram Naresh

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, a six dimensional nonlinear mathematical model is proposed to study the effect of the density of cloud droplets (formed due to the presence of vapors in the atmosphere) on the removal of pollutants, both gaseous and particulate, from the atmosphere. We assume that there exist six nonlinearly interacting phases in the atmosphere i.e. the vapor phase, the phase of cloud droplets, the phase of raindrops, the phase of gaseous pollutants, the phase of particulate matters and the phase of gaseous pollutants absorbed in raindrops. It is further assumed that the dynamics of the system undergo ecological type …

The Two-Phase Arterial Blood Flow With Or Without A Catheter And In The Presence Of A Single Or Multi Stenosis, Ani E. Garcia, Daniel N. Riahi Dec 2013

The Two-Phase Arterial Blood Flow With Or Without A Catheter And In The Presence Of A Single Or Multi Stenosis, Ani E. Garcia, Daniel N. Riahi

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

We consider the problem of blood flow in an artery with or without a catheter and in the presence of single or multi stenosis whose shape is based on the available experimental data for the stenosis in a human’s artery. The presence of stenosis in the artery, which locally narrows portion of the artery, can be a result of fatty materials such as cholesterol in the blood. The use of catheter is important as a standard tool for diagnosis and treatment in patience whose blood flow passage in the artery is affected adversely by the presence of the stenosis within …

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Each year, millions of hectares of forest land are destroyed by fires causing great financial loss and ecological damage. In this paper, our aim is to study the effect of the variation of meteorological conditions on the total burned area in hectares, by using fuzzy linear regression analysis based on Tanaka’s approaches. The total burned area is considered a dependent variable. Air temperature (in ºC), relative humidity (in %), wind speed (in km/h) and rainfall (in mm/m2 ) are considered to be independent variables. The relationship between input and output data is estimated using data provided in data mining …

A New Approach To The Numerical Solution Of Fractional Order Optimal Control Problems, T. Akbarian, M. Keyanpour Dec 2013

A New Approach To The Numerical Solution Of Fractional Order Optimal Control Problems, T. Akbarian, M. Keyanpour

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this article, a new numerical method is proposed for solving a class of fractional order optimal control problems. The fractional derivative is considered in the Caputo sense. This approach is based on a combination of the perturbation homotopy and parameterization methods. The control function u(t) is approximated by polynomial functions with unknown coefficients. This method converts the fractional order optimal control problem to an optimization problem. Numerical results are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the method.

Spread Of Malicious Objects In Computer Network: A Fuzzy Approach, Bimal K. Mishra, Apeksha Prajapati

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

We propose an e-epidemic fuzzy SEIQRS (Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Quarantine- Recovered-Susceptible) model for the transmission of malicious codes in a computer network. We have simulated the result for various parameters and analyzed the stability of the model. The efficiency of antivirus software and crashing of the nodes due to attack of malicious code is analyzed. Furthermore, initial simulation results illustrate the behavior of different classes for minimizing the infection in a computer network. It also reflects the positive impact of anti-virus software on malicious code propagation in a computer network. The basic reproduction number R0 f and its formulation is also discussed.

Numerical Algorithm For Analysis Of N-Ary Subdivision Schemes, Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad Zahid Dec 2013

Numerical Algorithm For Analysis Of N-Ary Subdivision Schemes, Ghulam Mustafa, Muhammad Zahid

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

The analysis for continuity of limit curves generated by m-point n-ary subdivision schemes is presented for m, n ≥ 2. The analysis is based on the study of corresponding differences and divided difference schemes. A numerical algorithm is introduced which computes the continuity and higher order divided differences of schemes in an efficient way. It is also free from polynomial factorization and division unlike the well-known Laurent polynomial algorithm for analysis of schemes which depends on polynomial algebraic operations. It only depends on the arithmetic operations.

Generalized Fractional Integral Of The Product Of Two Aleph-Functions, R. K. Saxena, J. Ram, D. Kumar Dec 2013

Generalized Fractional Integral Of The Product Of Two Aleph-Functions, R. K. Saxena, J. Ram, D. Kumar

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper is devoted to the study and develops the generalized fractional integral operators for a new special function, which is called Aleph-function. The considered generalized fractional integration operators contain the Appell hypergeometric function F3 as a kernel. We establish two results of the product of two Aleph-functions involving Saigo-Maeda operators. On account of the general nature of the Saigo-Maeda operators and the Aleph-function, some results involving Saigo, Riemann-Liouville and Erdélyi-Kober integral operators are obtained as special cases of the main result.

Exact Traveling Wave Solutions Of Nonlinear Pdes In Mathematical Physics Using The Modified Simple Equation Method, E. M. E. Zayed, A. H. Arnous

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this article, we apply the modified simple equation method to find the exact solutions with parameters of the (1+1)-dimensional nonlinear Burgers-Huxley equation, the (2+1) dimensional cubic nonlinear Klein-Gordon equation and the (2+1)-dimensional nonlinear Kadomtsev- Petviashvili-Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (KP-BBM) equation. The new exact solutions of these three equations are obtained. When these parameters are given special values, the solitary solutions are obtained.

Numerical Solution Of Fuzzy Arbitrary Order Predator-Prey Equations, Smita Tapaswini, S. Chakraverty

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

This paper seeks to investigate the numerical solution of fuzzy arbitrary order predator-prey equations using the Homotopy Perturbation Method (HPM). Fuzziness in the initial conditions is taken to mean convex normalised fuzzy sets viz. triangular fuzzy number. Comparisons are made between crisp solution given by others and fuzzy solution in special cases. The results obtained are depicted in plots and tables to demonstrate the efficacy and powerfulness of the methodology.

Exponentially Fitted Variants Of The Two-Step Adams-Bashforth Method For The Numerical Integration Of Initial Problems, Gurjinder Singh, V. Kanwar, Saurabh Bhatia Dec 2013

Exponentially Fitted Variants Of The Two-Step Adams-Bashforth Method For The Numerical Integration Of Initial Problems, Gurjinder Singh, V. Kanwar, Saurabh Bhatia

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

In this paper, we propose new variants of the two-step Adams-Bashforth and the one-step Adams-Moulton methods for the numerical integration of ordinary differential equations (ODEs). The methods are constructed geometrically from an exponentially fitted osculating parabola. The accuracy and stability of the proposed variants is discussed and their applicability to some initial value problems is also considered. Numerical experiments demonstrate that the exponentially fitted variants of the two-step Adams-Bashforth and the one-step Adams-Moulton methods outperform the existing classical two-step Adams-Bashforth and one-step Adams- Moulton methods respectively.

Grayscale-Image Encryption Using Random Hill Cipher Over Sln(F) Associated With Discrete Wavelet Transformation, D. C. Mishra, R. K. R. K. Sharma

Applications and Applied Mathematics: An International Journal (AAM)

Image data are highly sensitive and prone to incidental decoding by intruders. The security of image data in an insecure network is therefore a major issue. In this paper, we have presented a novel approach for grayscale-image encryption and decryption using Random Hill cipher over SLn(F) associated with discrete wavelet transformation. Earlier techniques for encryption and decryption of image data discussed missing the keys, but in this approach, both the keys and the arrangement of RHC are emphasized. Additionally, keys multiplication side (pre or post) over a grayscale-image data matrix also inevitable to know, to correctly decrypt the encrypted image …

Interaction Of Parent Pain And Child Empathy On Child Depression: A Pilot Study, Ketlyne Sol Dec 2013

Interaction Of Parent Pain And Child Empathy On Child Depression: A Pilot Study, Ketlyne Sol

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Children aged 11-17, in their relationships with their parents, are capable of experiencing a negative mood if their parent is in pain. According to the empathy-altruism hypothesis, people that are high on empathy will want to help someone in distress with the ultimate goal of benefitting the other person. Because of this, the empathy-altruism hypothesis proposes that if an attempt to help is not resolved, the person will report more negative mood. Because children are capable of experiencing empathy for their parents in distress and feel a negative mood as a result, it was hypothesized that an interaction between empathy …

Sympathetic Nerve Modulation Of Joint Pathology In Adjuvant-Induced Arthritis, Carlo Anthony Wood Dec 2013

Sympathetic Nerve Modulation Of Joint Pathology In Adjuvant-Induced Arthritis, Carlo Anthony Wood

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Background: There is increasing data suggesting a net increase in sympathetic tone plays an important role in rheumatoid arthritis. Several studies have reported altered distribution and density of autonomic nerves in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and animal models for the disease. This provides anatomical evidence that supports a neurally-mediated drive in inflammation and joint destruction. Methods: Adult rats were injected with complete Freund’s adjuvant. At 12 days post immunization, animals were randomly placed into a drug treatment group (SH1293, which interacts with - and ß2-ARs), an adjuvant arthritic group, or a control group. These animals were sacrificed at 14, 21, …

Predictors Of Addiction Treatment Attrition, Suranee Abeyesinhe Dec 2013

Predictors Of Addiction Treatment Attrition, Suranee Abeyesinhe

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA’s) National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 23.5 million persons aged 12 or older needed treatment for an illicit drug or alcohol abuse problem in 2009 (9.3 percent of persons aged 12 or older). Unfortunately, addiction treatment completion rates remain relatively low, looming around 50%. In order for treatment programs to be more effective, it is imperative that risk factors for attrition are identified, and that programs strive to combat these risks through personalized engagement and individually tailored treatment programs. This study aims to identify specific risk factors for …

Preparing Mental Health Professionals For Work In Collaborative Care Settings, Angela G. Hester Dec 2013

Preparing Mental Health Professionals For Work In Collaborative Care Settings, Angela G. Hester

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

There has been a significant shift regarding how health and illness are conceptualized. In decades past, the biomedical model predominated. Factors other than biological were not seen as important with regard to the diagnosis and treatment of illness; mind and body were viewed as separate. Engel’s 1977 article challenged the biomedical perspective with the biopsychosocial model, suggesting the reciprocal nature of biological, psychological and social factors on patients’ experience of health and illness, and responsiveness to treatment interventions. While viewing individuals holistically was not a new concept at that time, several factors led the biopsychosocial model to gain wide acceptance …

Family Support: A Buffer For Parenting Stress Among Ethnic Minority Parents Of Children With Dd, Susanna Luu Dec 2013

Family Support: A Buffer For Parenting Stress Among Ethnic Minority Parents Of Children With Dd, Susanna Luu

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Adapting to a new culture is a stressful experience for some ethnic minorities. Lower acculturation in ethnic minorities is related to high levels of stress. Parents of children with developmental delays (DD) typically experience high levels of stress, particularly parenting stress. Therefore, ethnic minority families of children with development delays may be at risk for especially high levels of parenting stress due to the additive stress of adapting to a new culture. Currently, there is uncertainty within the field about the relationship between acculturation and parenting stress given that studies have found both low and high levels of acculturation to …

Expression And Function Of Ca2+-Activated K+ Channels In Uterine Arteries, Ronghui Zhu Dec 2013

Expression And Function Of Ca2+-Activated K+ Channels In Uterine Arteries, Ronghui Zhu

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

Chronic hypoxia during pregnancy is one of the most common insults to the maternal cardiovascular system and fetal development, and is associated with increased uterine vascular tone and heightened risk of preeclampsia and fetal intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR). The present study tested the hypothesis that calcium-activated potassium (KCa) channels play an essential role in uterine vascular adaptation to pregnancy, which is inhibited by chronic hypoxia during gestation. Uterine arteries (UAs) were isolated from nonpregnant ewes (NPUAs) and near-term pregnant ewes (PUAs) that had been maintained at sea level (~300 m) or exposed to high altitude (3,801 m) for 110 days. …
