Loading Path Determination For Tube Hydroforming Process Of Automotive Component Using Apdl, E. Masoumi Khalil Abad, Amir Ghazanfari, R. Hashemi
Faculty Publications, Mechanical Engineering
In this study, an extended stress-based forming limit diagram (FLD) for prediction of necking based on the Marciniak and Kucznski (M-K) model is represented and applied in tube hydroforming. The bulge forming of a straight tube is simulated by finite element method and verified with published experimental data. This adaptive simulation technique is based on the ability to detect the onset and growth of defects (e.g., bursting and wrinkling) and to promptly readjust the loading paths. Thus, a suitable load path is determined by applying Adaptive Simulation Method in ANSYS Parametric Design Language (APDL).

Genetics And The Archaeology Of Ancient Israel, Aaron J. Brody, Roy J. King
Human Biology Open Access Pre-Prints
This paper is a call for DNA testing on ancient skeletal materials from the southern Levant to begin to database genetic information of the inhabitants of this crossroads region. Archaeologists and biblical historians view the earliest presence in the region of a group that called itself Israel in the Iron I period, traditionally dated to ca. 1200-1000 BCE. These were in villages in the varied hill countries of the region, contemporary with urban settlements in the coastal plains, inland valleys, and central Hill Country attributed to varied indigenous groups collectively called Canaanite. The remnants of Egyptian imperial presence in the …

Disaster Relief Models: Location Of Points Of Distribution, Othman Boudhoum
Industrial Engineering Undergraduate Honors Theses
This project consists of developing a Location Allocation model that focuses on determining the locations of relief supply Points of Distribution (PODs) after a natural disaster and how to assign demand points to them. According to FEMA, PODs are “centralized locations where the public picks up life sustaining commodities following a disaster or emergency†[1]. After each disaster, decisions have to be made to ensure a good delivery of resources in a timely manner. The road infrastructure may be damaged due to the disaster. Some roads might become inoperable, and some bridges are expected to fail. The model studied in …

Chemistry & Biochemistry Faculty Works
Globoid cell leukodystrophy (GLD) is a neurological disease caused by deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme galactosylceramidase (GALC). In the absence of GALC, the cytotoxic glycosphingolipid, psychosine (psy), accumulates in the nervous system. Psychosine accumulation preferentially affects oligodendrocytes, leading to progressive demyelina-tion and infiltration of activated monocytes/macrophages into the CNS. GLD is characterized by motor defects, cognitive deficits, seizures, and death by 2-5 years of age. It has been hypothesized that psychosine accumulation, primarily within lipid rafts, results in the pathogenic cascade in GLD. However, the mechanism of psychosine toxicity has yet to be elucidated. Therefore, we synthesized the enantiomer of …

Under The Queen’S Throne: Analysis Of The Lily Of Life, Seung Yeon Lana Lee
4710 English Undergraduate Research: Children’s Literature
This essay explores one of the older fairy tales that is not widely known by many people. The Lily of Life, published in 1913 and written by Queen Marie of Romania, touches on several topics that are still in effect in today’s society. The fairy tale is about a royal family with beautiful twin sisters and happily married queen and king; however, a brave young prince challenges the happiness. The adventure one of the sisters takes to save the prince reveals the hidden meanings, morals, and values of the story. The further research of author Seth Lerer has been …

A Review Of Victoria’S Developmental Learning Framework For School Leaders, Lawrence Ingvarson
Professional learning for teachers and school leaders
The Department of Education and Training, Victoria launched the Developmental Learning Framework for School Leaders (DLF) in March 2007 as a central component of the 2003 Blueprint for Government Schools (DET, 2003). Six years later, a decision was made to review the DLF and seek advice on the extent to which it may need revision or redevelopment. In June 2013, the Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership commissioned the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER) to conduct an independent review of Framework for School Leaders (DLF). The brief was to conduct a critical assessment of the content, design, and usability of the …

Environmental Attitudes And Perceptions: A Comparison Of Peru And The United States, Nancy Hoalst-Pullen, Matt R. Lloyd, Melony E. Parkhurst
Journal of Global Initiatives: Policy, Pedagogy, Perspective
This project is a cross-cultural study comparing global and local perspectives by inhabitants of Peru and the United States regarding the natural environment. Using a 5- point Likert-scale survey, we assessed the environmental attitudes Peruvians and U.S. participants have regarding their self in nature, use of nature, local responsibility toward nantre, and global resolutions to environmental issues. Additionally, we assessed how individuals of one country perceive the environmental conciousness of the other country as well as how they believe the other country perceives them. Results showed Peruvians being concurrently ecocentric and anthropocentric regarding environmental perceptions, while U.S. participants were generally …

La Femme Brisée, Le Pouvoir Brisé, Jenna A. Liuzzi
The Kennesaw Tower Undergraduate Foreign Language Research Journal
This essay examines the poem “À Celle qui est trop gaie” by Charles Baudelaire. In addition to examining the original poem in French, I have also included one secondary source to further support my argument. Specifically, the essay discusses Baudelaire’s anger and frustration over his impotence in his rapport with the women he addresses. The woman possesses a power over him, a power that infuriates and impels him to use his poetry to rupture her dominance. Baudelaire verbally dissects the woman’s body and essence, reducing her to merely “parts” of a person, and thus renders her incapable of posing any …
A Geographical Approach For Integrating Belief Networks And Geographic Information Sciences To Probabilistically Predict River Depth, Nathan Lee Hopper
A Geographical Approach For Integrating Belief Networks And Geographic Information Sciences To Probabilistically Predict River Depth, Nathan Lee Hopper
Dissertations
Geography is, traditionally, a discipline dedicated to answering complex spatial questions. Although spatial statistical techniques, such as weighted regressions and weighted overlay analyses, are commonplace within geographical sciences, probabilistic reasoning, and uncertainty analyses are not typical. For example, belief networks are statistically robust and computationally powerful, but are not strongly integrated into geographic information systems. This is one of the reasons that belief networks have not been more widely utilized within the environmental sciences community. Geography’s traditional method of delivering information through maps provides a mechanism for conveying probabilities and uncertainties to decision makers in a clear, concise manner. This …

Interactive Wireless Sensor For Remote Trace Detection And Recognition Of Hazardous Gases, Audrey Lama
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The interactive wireless sensor detects many hazardous gases such as Hexane, Propane, Carbon monoxide and Hydrogen. These gases are highly toxic and used in different kinds of manufacturing industries, domestic purpose and so on. So, building a sensor that can detect this kind of gases can save the environment; prevent the potential for explosion, and endangering human life. In long term, interactive wireless sensor can also prevent the financial losses that might occur due to the hazardous incident that might occur due to these toxic gases.
Hexane is a colorless, strong gas which inhaled in significant amounts by a person …

Feasible Algorithms For Lattice And Directed Subspaces, Jennifer (Hamlyn) Del Valle, Vladik Kreinovich, Piotr Wojciechowski
Feasible Algorithms For Lattice And Directed Subspaces, Jennifer (Hamlyn) Del Valle, Vladik Kreinovich, Piotr Wojciechowski
Departmental Technical Reports (CS)
In some practical situations (e.g., in econometrics), it is important to check whether a given linear subspace of a space Rm with component-wise order is a lattice -- and if it is not, whether it is at least a directed ordered space. Because of the practical importance, it is desirable to have feasible algorithms for solving these problems -- which in Computer Science is usually interpreted as algorithms whose computation time does not exceed a polynomial of the length of the input. No such algorithms were previously known. In this paper, we present feasible algorithms for solving both problems.

Improvement Of Pedagogical Laboratory Based Learning: Multimedia Enhanced Instructional Methods, Sumbul Khan
Improvement Of Pedagogical Laboratory Based Learning: Multimedia Enhanced Instructional Methods, Sumbul Khan
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
In engineering technology and other scientific-based education, lab-based courses play a crucial role (Ma & Nickerson, 2006). Even though laboratory experience in student learning is crucial, it faces some problems. Due to insufficient laboratory conditions that lead to overcrowding and inability to view demonstrations, the effectiveness of hands on experience declines (Tiwari & Singh, 2011; Tuysuz, 2010). Considering the limitations that constrain lab experience, investigating and implementing alternatives to enhance pedagogical laboratory based learning becomes inevitable. This study investigates multimedia enhanced pedagogical teaching methods for delivering laboratory instruction to students. The purpose of this study was to improve pedagogical laboratory …

A Problem Solving Approach To Enterprise Filevault 2 Management And Integration, Nicholas Cobb
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Consumer technology adoption into large enterprise environments is occurring at an unprecedented rate. Employees require the flexibility and efficiency of using operating systems, computers, and mobility products they are familiar with and that enable their productivity. Due to this industry phenomenon, one large shipping enterprise must work to create solutions to integrate Apple’s OS X operating system into its traditional Windows-based operating environment. This level of integration must take place carefully to enable usability and foster the continued data security of enterprise assets. This paper describes the steps and methodology taken, as well as the rationale used, to accomplish the …
Novel Applications Of Multivariate Methods For Exploring Personality In African Elephants, Shilo Kimberly Felton
Novel Applications Of Multivariate Methods For Exploring Personality In African Elephants, Shilo Kimberly Felton
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Investigators have shown that elephants exhibit consistent individual differences in behavior by rating elephants using personality adjectives. These adjectives, however, are not based on pre-defined measurements of the behaviors performed. Instead, they are based on the observers’ interpretations of an animal’s behavioral patterns, therefore making them subject to observer bias. Furthermore, elephants have a capacity for learning; thus, they may alter their behavioral patterns over time. This behavioral plasticity in itself might be a way of measuring consistent behavioral differences among individuals. With this in mind, I approached elephant personality as a multivariate problem. I used behavioral observations collected from …
Landscape Genetics Of The Marbled Salamander (Ambystoma Opacum) At Mammoth Cave National Park, James Kyle Martin
Landscape Genetics Of The Marbled Salamander (Ambystoma Opacum) At Mammoth Cave National Park, James Kyle Martin
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
Habitat connectivity is important to maintain in order to prevent loss of genetic diversity, reduce inbreeding depression, and decrease extinction risk in threatened or endangered species. Here I present a landscape genetics study on marbled salamanders (Ambystoma opacum) in highly connected forested habitat at Mammoth Cave National Park. This investigation of gene flow among ponds within a mostly continuous landscape provides data that can be compared with patterns observed in more fragmented landscapes. These comparisons can provide a means of investigating the separate effects of structural and functional habitat connectivity on amphibian genetic population structure. Structural connectivity refers to the …
Spatial Analysis Of Fatal Automobile Crashes In Nashville, Tn, 2001-2011, Yan Chen
Spatial Analysis Of Fatal Automobile Crashes In Nashville, Tn, 2001-2011, Yan Chen
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
With increasing levels of motor vehicle ownership, automobile crashes have become a serious public issue in the U.S. and around the world. Knowing when, where, and how traffic accidents happen is critical in order to ensure road safety and to plan for adequate road infrastructure. There is a rich body of literature pertaining to time-related fatal crashes, most of which focuses on non-spatial factors such as a driver’s visibility at night, drinking and drug use, and road conditions. These studies provide a theoretical basis for understanding the causes of crashes from a non-spatial perspective, and a number of traffic laws …
