This study aims to examine the effect of accrual or real earnings management on the possibility of companies involved in tax shelter activities by using Surat Ketetapan Pajak Kurang Bayar (notice of tax deficiency) as a proxy to measure the tax shelter. By using a sample of companies who received Surat Ketetapan Pajak Kurang Bayar (notice of tax deficiency) in manufacturing industry and listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange during the period 2001-2010, this study finds that the company tends to favor accrual earnings management for decreasing possibility of aggressive tax shelter activities. This study explores managerial behavioral responses associated with performance measurement system. Design of performance measurement system is investigated financial and non-financial measures related to the four perspectives of Balanced Scorecard (BSC). This paper examines whether a role conflict and procedural fairness affect the relationship between performance measure and managerial performance. Based on a sample of 67 managers of regional Bank in Pekanbaru, the results from a structural model tested using Partial Least Squares indicate a relationship between performance measurement system and managerial performance is mediated by a role of conflict. This research is aimed to examine the impact of audit committee quality measured by audit committee expertise, audit committee size, and number of meeting on the quality of company financial reporting with an audit quality as a moderating variable. This research uses three measures for financial reporting quality which are persistency, predictability, and conservatism. The results of this research show that audit committee quality affects financial reporting quality. Audit committee financial literacy significantly increase persistency and predictability of earnings. Enhanced Optical Bistability With Film-Coupled Plasmonic Nanocubes, Christos Argyropoulos, Cristian Ciraci, David R. Smith

Colloidally synthesized nanocubes strongly coupled to conducting films hold great promise for enhancing different nonlinear optical processes. They exhibit a robust and sensitive scattering response that can be easily controlled by their geometrical and material parameters. Strong local field enhancement is generated at the gap regions between the nanocubes and the metallic film. We show that strong optical bistability and all-optical switching behavior can be obtained by loading these nanogaps with Kerr nonlinear materials. Relatively low input intensities are required to obtain these nonlinear effects. The proposed design can lead to efficient, low-power, and ultrafast all-optical memories and scattering nanoswitches.

Recent evidence demonstrated that endothelial cells initiate signaling events that enhance tumor cell survival, proliferation, invasion, and tumor recurrence. Under this new paradigm for cellular crosstalk within the tumor microenvironment, the origin of endothelial cells and tumor cells may have a direct impact on the pathobiology of cancer. Berbagai studi dan pengamatan memperlihatkan kecenderungan penurunan pemberian ASI dan berganti dengan susu fomula menjadi kebiasaan umum di dalam masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pola pemberian ASI pada periode 12 bulan umur bayi dan perbedaan pengaruh variabel determinan terhadap lama pemberian ASI secara penuh (ASI secara penuh) tanpa makanan lain. This paper examines the original American edition and the Indonesian translation of two The Baby- Sitters Club novels. The researcher focuses on how culture-specific items in the novels are translated. Javier Aixelá’s classification is used to identify culture-specific items, and the translator’s method is analyzed using the notions of foreignization and domestication by Lawrence Venuti. It is found that foreignization is the translator’s tendency in translating the two novels, which indicates that the translated version of these children’s novels promote cultural understanding. Tendinopathy or tendon rupture is a common disease. Studies have showed that hyaluronic acid and glucosamine benefit the process of tendon repair. Tendon healing requires the migration of tenocytes to the repair site, followed by the proliferation and synthesis of the extracellular matrix. However, the effects of hyaluronic acid and glucosamine on tenocytes remain to be explored. Here, we treated tenocytes from rat Achilles tendons with hyaluronic acid or glucosamine. The ability of tenocytes to migrate and proliferate was assessed by transwell filter migration assay and MTT (3-[4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5- diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assay, respectively. Objective: Whether strengthening exercises emphasizing on internal rotators of the knee are more effective in improving shuttle-run agility of the knees with anterior-posterior laxity (AP laxity). Methods: Twenty men with AP laxity of knee were randomly assigned to the three experimental groups in different strengthening modes: plate-loaded squat press (SP), plate-loaded kneeling leg curl with internal rotation (KLCIR), and kneeling leg curl (KLC). Control group with stable knees received no training. Anterior-posterior laxity, shuttle-run agility, and isokinetic strength were evaluated before and after training.
