Promoted by the United Nations, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are eight quantitative metrics to be achieved by 2015 with the ultimate purpose of reducing global poverty, chronic disease, and stalled development. Over seven years, the authors have partnered with nurses and other professionals to teach the MDGs through project based instruction in the USA, Brazil, Guatemala, India, Kenya, and Tanzania. The aim of the study was to examine the relationship of a culturally sensitive ACP seminar and attitudes toward advance directives (AD) in CA. Background: Advance directives are documents that guide end-of-life (EOL) decisions when decision-making capacity is lost. Research about ADs is limited in minority populations. Chinese Americans represent the third largest immigrant group in the United States. Interventions to increase awareness and knowledge of ACP in CA are important in promoting quality EOL care. …

Since the advent of the Internet, the diffusion of computers has narrowed the gap between the digital "have" and "have-nots," however researchers have identified a new disparity beyond computer accessibility as a result of the growing dependence of information on the Internet. This study will explore people's differences in online skills among users in the city of Rochester, N.Y. Based on a quota sample and a survey computer tasks are administered to evaluate internet skills. Temperature-dependent dielectric properties (dielectric constant and dielectric loss factor) and thermal properties (thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity) of whey protein gel and mashed potato were measured from -20°C to 100°C. A dielectric properties measurement system and a multipoint temperature calibration protocol were developed. The system consists of an impedance analyzer, a high-temperature coaxial cable, a high-temperature coaxial probe, a micro-climatic chamber and a metal sample holder. Calibrations at two temperatures (25°C and 85°C) were sufficient to accurately measure the dielectric properties of foods from frozen to hot temperatures. The Confucius Institutes are Chinese government-backed nonprofit organizations that promote Chinese language and culture. They are housed on collegiate campuses and designed to complement Chinese language and cultural studies by providing teachers, curriculums, textbooks and other educational materials. Their establishment has been a source of controversy, especially in the United States, due to the institutes’ close ties with and the financial, administrative, and political support they receive from the Chinese government. In response to the growing concern over patient safety, quality, and health care outcomes, the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN), created the role of the Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL). CNL practice involves team development, microsystem assessment, process development, treatment, and ongoing evaluation. Implementing the role at the microsystem level has resulted in role ambiguity, increased cost, and lack of quantifiable measures of influence.
