An Engaging Leadership Framework (Elf) Project Investigating How Gen Y Students Learn , Patricia Williams, Rowena Scott, David Paine

This paper describes a research project to improve teaching methods to cater for Gen Y and Millennium student learning. The project was initiated by participation in using the Engaging Leadership Framework project and is designed to undertake research to inform teaching. Planned to take 18 months, it aims to spawn parallel projects on improving teaching for current younger generation university students. The objective is to improve student engagement in their own learning whilst also improving the research group members’ individual teaching approaches. Accepting The Unacceptable: How Jama V. Immigration And Customs Enforcement Affects Deportation Policies With Non-Accepting Governments , Jamie Norman

Journal of the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary

The Supreme Court's ruling in Jama v. Immigration and Customs Enforcement affects the Government's authority to elect destination countries when deciding where to deport removable aliens. This note will explore the Jama decision. Part II details the procedural history of the case. Part III details and sets forth the facts of the case. Part IV analyzes the majority opinion by Justice Scalia, as 160 well as the dissenting opinion by Justice Souter. Part V considers Jama's judicial, administrative and social impact.5 Finally, Part VI concludes the discussion of Jama and the deportation policy.

In der verworrenen politischen Lage der Weimarer Republik breiteten sich viele bilderstürmerische politische und philosophische Ideen aus, womit das deutsche Volk sich mit dem vergangenen Horror des Ersten Weltkriegs und mit den derzeitigen ökonomischen, politischen, und seelischen Problemen auseinandersetzen sollte. Die sogenannte „Konservative Revolution“ dieser Zeit war einer diesen philosophischen Strömungen. Grob gesagt waren die Autoren und Denker der Konservativen Revolution von ihrem gemeinsamen Militarismus, Antiliberalismus, und Antidemokratismus geprägt, obwohl sie darunter unterschiedliche politische und philosophische Vorstellungen vertraten.

After the American involvement in the Second World War, labor issues became more prevalent because so many workers from Rochester either enlisted or were drafted into the ranks of the US Army. Also, many farmers realized they could make more money off of high wage paying industrial jobs in the cities. The Old Testament book of Judges is often cited for its violent and destructive depictions, since the textual episodes relate to the aggressive nature of war, the erosion of interpersonal relationships from deception, and the immorality of the Israelites. The integrity of Yahweh's chosen people steadily degenerates until the climatic conclusion of Judges wherein the Israelites act out belligerent aggression upon each other in tribal civil warfare. Many monuments stand to remind us of horror, violence and people lost. The Vietnam Memorial and Auschwitz are stark reminders of the consequences of war. How do we feel when reading the 58,325 names on "the Wall?" Can we sense the horror (when) inside a gas chamber? Memorials exist to provoke a somber reaction, promoting peace. Joan Didion, the author of Salvador, compares how the Metropolitan Cathedral and Pablo Picasso's Guernica convey their anti-war sentiments.

A Cognitive Approach To Vision For A Mobile Robot, Paul Benjamin, Christopher Funk, Damian M. Lyons

We describe a cognitive vision system for a mobile robot. This system works in a manner similar to the human vision system, using saccadic, vergence and pursuit movements to extract information from visual input. At each fixation, the system builds a 3D model of a small region, combining information about distance, shape, texture and motion. These 3D models are embedded within an overall 3D model of the robot's environment. This approach turns the computer vision problem into a search problem, with the goal of constructing a physically realistic model of the entire environment. At each step, the vision system selects …

The 1960s and 1970s in American history conjure up a wide variety of dramatic visuals: Rock and Roll, hippies, civil rights, Kent State, assassinations, drugs, riots. Similarly, draft dodging, protests, tear gas, policeman, and imprisonments are obvious, explicit, and vocal responses to Vietnam that draw many Americans into discussion about the anti-war movement. This period of debate and activism is well researched and captivating. However, the tendency to look at the 1960s and 1970s as a conglomeration of movements and political groups can fail to appropriately acknowledge the complex responses of average individuals in the United States. Beginning with a look back to historical Xhosa oral traditions and then examining the role of performance poetry in resistance during Apartheid, this paper explores the existence of contemporary Cape Town performance poetry in a setting that has been a home to poets for centuries. Specifically, this project is a look into the space, mental and physical, that exists within Cape Town’s current performance poetry scene for themes of resistance and activism. Through the observation of public poetry performances in local bookstores and coffeehouse, and through interviews with poets and audience members, contemporary attitudes of writers and community members toward …
