Study Of Zone Center Phonons In Wolframite Znwo_4, Ruby Jindal, Murari Mohan Sinha, Hem Chandra Gupta
Turkish Journal of Physics
A short-range force constant model was applied to investigate the phonons in wolframite ZnWO_4 crystals in their monoclinic phase having space group P2/c and symmetry C_{2h}. The normal symmetry coordinates for the monoclinic wolframite were computed. The zone center phonons were calculated by using 8 stretching and 6 bending force constants. The calculated results are in very good agreement with the observed ones. The infrared frequencies were assigned for the first time. The potential energy distribution was also investigated for determining the significance of the contribution from each force constant toward the Raman and infrared wavenumbers.
A Simple Method To Extract The Parameters Of The Single-Diode Model Of A Pv System, Ahmed A. El Tayyan
A Simple Method To Extract The Parameters Of The Single-Diode Model Of A Pv System, Ahmed A. El Tayyan
Turkish Journal of Physics
This article suggests a simple method of modeling and simulation of photovoltaic systems. The main goal is to find the parameters (I_{ph}, I_o, R_s, R_{sh}, and a) of the single-diode model by adjusting the P-V curve and/or I-V curve at parameters provided by the manufacturer specification sheets (I_{sc}, V_{oc}, I_{mp}, and V_{mp}). An empirical model is incorporated into the single-diode model in order to remove its implicit nature and to ease the calculations. Calculations using this method can be extended to generate the I-V curves at temperatures and irradiances other than the standard test condition (STC)

Study Of Solid-State Stability Of The Zoto Binary System, Sandeep A. Waghuley
Turkish Journal of Physics
The ZOTO binary system contains different compositions of zinc oxide (ZnO) and tin oxide (SnO_2). These are important semiconductors and have been intensively explored for various applications. SnO_2, ZnO, and different mole ratios (70:30, 40:60, 30:70, and 20:80 SnO_2:ZnO) of the ZOTO system were prepared through proper thermal treatment in powder form. The comparative solid-state stability was investigated using thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The stability study showed that the SnO_2 material absorbs much lower heat (Ea = -72.06 kJ/g mol) compared with ZnO and their compositions. Thus the SnO_2 material shows stability at near room temperature operation. The …

Molecular Dynamic Simulation On Iron Corrosion-Reduction In High Temperature Molten Lead-Bismuth Eutectic, Artoto Arkundato, Zaki Su'ud, Mikrajuddin Abdullah, Widayani Sutrisno
Turkish Journal of Physics
Molecular dynamic simulation on iron in high-temperature molten lead-bismuth eutectic has been carried out to investigate the iron corrosion and its mitigation. The aim of the work is to investigate the corrosion and evaluate proper oxygen content of injection for significant and effective reduction. To study the phenomena we calculated the diffusion coefficients, radial distribution functions and mean square displacement of iron, and also observed the micro-structure of iron before and after oxygen injection into coolant. The present calculation shows that a significant and effective reduction of corrosion can be achieved by injection of 7.68 \times 10^{-2}-1.55 \times 10^{-1} wt\% …

Improved Hilbert Moment Thermal Qcd Sum Rules For B_S Meson And Stability With Respect To Moment Parameter, Elşen Veli̇, Gülşah Kaya, Arzu Türkan, Eni̇s Yazici
Turkish Journal of Physics
In this paper, we deal with the temperature dependence of the leptonic decay constant and mass of B_s meson in the framework of the Hilbert moment QCD sum rule. In our calculations, we improve the thermal QCD sum rules, taking into account the thermal spectral density and the perturbative 2-loop order corrections to the correlation function. Moreover, we investigate the stability of the results with respect to the Hilbert moment parameter. Our numerical calculations demonstrate that the mass and decay constant are insensitive to the variation of temperature up to T \cong 100 MeV; however, after this value, they start …

The Development Of A Novel Technique To Evaluate The Cr-39 Track Response To Alpha Particles, Khalil Ibrahim Mohammad, Muzahim Ibrahim Azawe
Turkish Journal of Physics
A novel technique is presented for the assessment of the track response of the detector CR-39 to alpha particles by photothermal deflection spectroscopy and image analysis. The 2 new techniques can be implemented to CR-39 as in situ measurements. The proposed techniques offer the possibility of monitoring nuclear radiation directly. Photothermal deflection is described to detect the change in the thermal and optical properties of the track nuclear detector CR-39 when irradiated to alpha particles. In situ image analysis of the photothermal deflection spot is presented to assess the detection of the CR-39 of any nuclear particle or radiation instantaneously.

Analyses Of Elastically Scattered Charged Pions From Calcium Isotopes And The ^{48}Ca-^{54}Fe Isotone At 180 Mev, Zuhair Fayyad Mahmoud Shehadeh
Turkish Journal of Physics
The elastic scattering of 180 MeV positively and negatively charged pions, incident on a set of calcium isotopes and the isotone ^{48}Ca - ^{54}Fe, has been analyzed within the framework of a recently updated simple local optical potential. This potential, particularly at the tail region, has been originally determined from available phase shifts using inverse scattering theory and the Klein--Gordon equation as a guide. The analysis is carried out with and without considering the squared potential term in the Klein-Gordon equation. Coulomb effects are accounted for by implementing Stricker's prescription. The numerical results for the angular distributions with isotopic and …

Discovering Predictive Event Sequences In Criminal Careers, Carl A. Janzen, Amit Deokar, Omar F. El-Gayar
Research & Publications
In this work, we consider the problem of predicting criminal behavior, and propose a method for discovering predictive patterns in criminal histories. Quantitative criminal career analysis typically involves clustering individuals according to frequency of a particular event type over time, using cluster membership as a basis for comparison. We demonstrate the effectiveness of hazard pattern mining for the discovery of relationships between different types of events that may occur in criminal careers. Hazard pattern mining is an extension of event sequence mining, with the additional restriction that each event in the pattern is the first subsequent event of the specified …

Model Based Adaptive Control Of Underwater Vehicles For Improved Ocean Science, Christopher J. Mcfarland
Model Based Adaptive Control Of Underwater Vehicles For Improved Ocean Science, Christopher J. Mcfarland
Link Foundation Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation Fellowship Reports
Recent advances in unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) capabilities have enabled oceanographic scientists to consider addressing research topics previously thought impractical or impossible. One such topic is the validation of high resolution computer models; long term deployments of coordinated UUV survey teams have been proposed to collect the density of measurements required. Another topic is the study of biological diversity in volatile areas; UUV intervention/sampling deployments have been proposed because of the inherent risks. In general, providing a high density of high accuracy measurements requires passing many targets as quickly and closely as possible. Similarly, efficacy for intervention/sampling deployments requires agile …
Evaluating And Training Intraoperative Analysis Of The Mitral Valve, Neil A. Tenenholtz
Evaluating And Training Intraoperative Analysis Of The Mitral Valve, Neil A. Tenenholtz
Link Foundation Modeling, Simulation and Training Fellowship Reports
Mitral valve repair is the recommended method of treating valve incompetency. However, the procedure is quite difficult and, as a result, underperformed due to surgeon’s need to predict the closed valve shape of the patient’s arrested heart. While the interactive process of predicting closed valve shape is achieved by physically manipulating valve tissue (known as valve analysis), surgical training consists of traditional, non-interactive pedagogy (e.g., book-based learning and lectures) followed by an apprenticeship model where the trainee is gradually given hands-on experience, resulting in post-medical school training that is often 10 years or greater. The continuing education of practicing cardiac …
Predicting Underwater Radiated Noise From Offshore Impact Pile Driving, Huikwan Kim
Predicting Underwater Radiated Noise From Offshore Impact Pile Driving, Huikwan Kim
Link Foundation Ocean Engineering and Instrumentation Fellowship Reports
Offshore wind turbines have been installed throughout Europe and are expected to be built in the United States water shortly. Offshore wind is an attractive option because 53% of the nation’s population lives in coastal area where energy cost and demands are high. Offshore winds tend to blow harder and more uniformly than on land [1]. However, structure borne noise and vibration generated by offshore impact pile driving radiate into and propagate through the air, water, and sediment media. The objective of this project is quantitatively predicting noise level around the piling location at sea to estimate the effects of …

The Molecular Basis Of Antibody Mediated Neutralization Of Hepatitis C Virus, Michelle Catherine Sabo
The Molecular Basis Of Antibody Mediated Neutralization Of Hepatitis C Virus, Michelle Catherine Sabo
All Theses and Dissertations (ETDs)
Hepatitis C virus: HCV) is positive strand, blood-borne, hepatotropic RNA virus that causes chronic infection in ~170 million people worldwide and is the leading cause of liver transplantation in the United States. HCV entry and attachment is mediated by the envelope protein E2 through interaction with several cellular receptors including CD81, scavenger receptor B1: SRB-1), claudin-1, and occludin, although the exact mechanism by which these receptors facilitate infection remains unclear, largely due to the absence of a structural model of E2. The production of neutralizing antibodies against E2 is thought to be important for controlling HCV infection, likely by blocking …

The phrase “Epub ahead of print” is very familiar to PubMed users. This tag denotes a separation in the access schedule of a journal issue. It is stated in the PubMed FAQ that “Publishers may submit citations for articles that appear on the web in advance of the journal issue's release,” and those articles are tagged with “Epub ahead of print.” This used to lead users to a publisher’s website to access a pay-per view option or savvy users would try Interlibrary loan. It was in October of 2010 that Elsevier announced it would launch Article-Based Publishing (ABP). How exactly …
