Rhizoctonia blight is a common and serious disease of many turfgrass species. The most widespread causal agent, Thanatephorus cucumeris (anamorph: R. solani), consists of several genetically different subpopulations. In addition, Waitea circinata varieties zeae, oryzae and circinata (anamorph: Rhizoctonia spp.) also can cause the disease. Accurate identification of the causal pathogen is important for effective management of the disease. It is challenging to distinguish the specific causal pathogen based on disease symptoms or macroscopic and microscopic morphology. Food security and land required for food production largely depend on rate of yield gain of major cereal crops. Previous projections of food security are often more optimistic than what historical yield trends would support. Many econometric projections of future food production assume compound rates of yield gain, which are not consistent with historical yield trends. Here we provide a framework to characterize past yield trends and show that linear trajectories adequately describe past yield trends, which means the relative rate of gain decreases over time. This bibliometric study used citation analysis to uncover citing characteristics in the burgeoning academic field of emergency management. Of the 281 degree programs listed by the Federal Emergency Management Agency nationwide, those at community colleges accounted for 17 percent of the total. Using the interdisciplinary database of Academic Search Complete, a sample of 5,099 citations was collected from 146 articles published between 2002 and 2012. The most strongly represented disciplines revealed by the analysis were Social Science, Science/Technology and Medicine. A dichotomy exists among feminists regarding the views and contributions of breastfeeding. Across several waves of feminism women have argued for and against breastfeeding. Until recently, breastfeeding (regarding the bearing and nurturing of children) was seen as a responsibility that prevented women from participating in public circles. This article delineates the general contributions made by women who breastfeed including biological, social, emotional, and personal factors. Changes and accommodations are required for women who choose to breastfeed to not be disadvantaged.

The streaming model is a popular model for writing high-throughput parallel applications. A streaming application is represented by a graph of computation stages that communicate with each other via FIFO channels. In this report, we consider the problem of mapping streaming pipelines — streaming applications where the graph is a linear chain — in order to maximize throughput. In a parallel setting, subsets of stages, called components can be mapped onto different computing resources. Helix lucorum Linnaeus, 1758 is a large helicid snail widespread in Georgia. While its occurrences are mainly associated with human activity, it is frequently impacted by strong direct pressure, which could cause local extinctions of populations. Instead, H. lucorum populations in anthropogenic landscapes are usually dense and apparently well adapted. Three new neotropical Trachyuropoda species are described and illustrated. A new species (T. darwini sp. nov.) from the neotropical Trachyuropoda arculata-group was collected in the Galápagos Islands. Two new species (T. bali sp. nov. and T. extremica sp. nov.) were collected in Colombia. T. bali sp. nov. belongs to the mostly tropical Trachyuropoda graeca-group; the other Colombian species (T. extremica sp. nov.) is a member of the widely distributed Trachyuropoda bostocki-group.

A New Hemiscorpius Peters, 1861 (Scorpiones: Hemiscorpiidae) From Southwestern Iran, Ayşegül Karataş, Muhammed Mouradi Gharkheloo

A new Hemiscorpius species, H. kashkayi sp. nov., is described from the Khuzestan and Ahwaz region in southwestern Iran. H. kashkayi is related to H. persicus Birula, 1903, known from Baluchestan in eastern Iran, which does not show sexual dimorphism between males and females, like H. kashkayi. These 2 species differ from all other Iranian Hemiscorpiidae species in having no sexual dimorphism. H. kashkayi is distinguished from H. persicus by its relatively short and well-developed stout metasoma and pedipalp segments, less developed patellar process, and carapacial and mesosomal carination.

The morphology, ciliature, and silverline system of a new ciliate, Frontonia anatolica n. sp., isolated from the bottom sediment of the eastern shore of Lake Van, a large alkaline lake in Eastern Anatolia Turkey, were investigated using live and silver impregnation methods. This study is based on the fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae) materials collected from Adıyaman, Kilis, and Şanlıurfa provinces during 2009 and 2010. Specimens were collected from host plants using an insect net. During this study, 42 species belonging to 13 genera from 3 subfamilies were determined in this region. Urophora tenuis Becker, 1908 is recorded for the first time from Turkey. In addition, zoogeographic distribution and wing figures of all species are given.

Description Of The Larval Instars Of Amidorus Immaturus (Mulsant, 1842)(Coleoptera: Scarabaeoidea: Aphodiidae), Angela Roggero, Claudia Tocco, Claudia Palestrini

The morphology of the 1st and 2nd larval instars of A. immaturus (Mulsant, 1842) is described and illustrated here for the first time, with an emphasis on the cephalic capsule, head appendages, legs, and last abdominal segments. The cephalic capsule size was employed to determine the larval instar, while the genital disc was employed to assess the sex of the larvae. The growth and sex ratio of A. immaturus were analyzed.

Age And Growth Of Swordfish (Xiphias Gladius L.) In The Aegean Sea, Okan Akyol, Tevfi̇k Ceyhan

Age and growth of swordfish, Xiphias gladius, were determined from 205 specimens (total n = 1408), collected from onboard a swordfish fishery fleet and from a wholesale fish market between June 2008 and July 2011. The length and weight distribution of all fish samples ranged from 51 to 242 cm and from 0.85 to 171.0 kg, respectively. The 70-80 cm lower jaw fork length range of swordfish had the highest ratio (approximately 57%). The length-weight relationship showed a positive allometric growth (b = 3.32; r^2 = 0.969). Spawning and fecundity aspects of a cyprinid fish, Neolissochilus soroides (Duncker, 1904), from the Gombak River of Peninsular Malaysia were studied from November 2009 to October 2010. Results show that the fish reproduced year-round, but 2 peaks of fecundity were observed, coinciding with high rainfall distribution during November and April. The gonadosomatic index for both sexes was comparatively higher in the wet seasons. The high numbers of ripening and ripe oocytes observed during the wet seasons and the oocyte diameter distribution indicate that the species is a total spawner, with batches of ripe oocytes that are released over an extended …

This study was carried out to determine some biological characteristics of Atlantic bonito (Sarda sarda Bloch, 1793) from the Gallipoli Peninsula and Dardanelles (northeastern Mediterranean, Turkey) between September 2006 and October 2009. The length-weight relationship was estimated as W = 0.0020TL^{3.41} (r^2 = 0.96) for females, W = 0.0029TL^{3.32} (r^2 = 0.97) for males, and W = 0.0028TL^{3.32} (r^2 = 0.97) for all samples. A detailed Mediterranean synonymy (= list of published records) and distributional map is offered for the Pacific jewel-box Chama pacifica Broderip, 1835, an alien mollusk invasive in the deep eastern Mediterranean Sea. The small mammal composition in the diet of barn owls from the Drinos River valley, southern Albania, was studied over the period of 1 year (September 2010-September 2011). A total of 662 pellets was collected and analyzed, and 1951 prey items were identified. Fourteen different small mammal species were identified (5 insectivores and 9 rodents), among which Microtus thomasi (frequency, F = 32.9%; biomass, B = 45.5%), Crocidura suaveolens (F = 23.5%; B = 9.4%), and Mus macedonicus (F = 17.8%; B = 16.3%) were the most abundant. Six specimens of Podarcis siculus hieroglyphicus from Filyos, Zonguldak Province, in the western Black Sea region were collected. This new record extended eastward seriously (ca. 250 km) the known distribution area of the subspecies in Turkey. The meristic (pholidolial) and metric (morphometric) characters and color-pattern features of specimens collected from Filyos, Zonguldak, are given in detail and compared with the specimens from other known Turkish localities with regard to the literature. The specimens examined were similar to P. siculus hieroglyphicus specimens mentioned in the literature.

Helminth Fauna Of Neurergus Strauchii (Steindacher, 1888) (Spotted Newt) Collected From Bingöl, Turkey, Mustafa Koyun, Sezen Bi̇rli̇k, Nurhan Sümer, Hi̇kmet Sami̇ Yildirimhan

This study was conducted to investigate helminth parasites of spotted newt (Neurergus strauchii) in Bingöl Province in 2010. Twenty-seven spotted newts were collected from a stream in the vicinity of Soğukpınar village located in the Genç district of Bingöl. Two species of helminthes were found from the collected samples. These are Cosmocerca commutata and Aplectana acuminata. This paper is the second study on spotted newt (Neurergus strauchii) in Turkey, but Aplectana acuminata is a new record for the host (N. strauchii) in Turkish helminth fauna.

The mitochondrial cytochrome b sequences of 34 haplotypes from 114 individuals of Eospalax baileyi and GenBank data of 40 haplotypes from 121 individuals of Eospalax cansus were used to investigate if the Quaternary glaciations on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP) influenced the distribution and colonisation of these 2 species, and if both species presented congruous past population dynamics. The phylogenetic tree indicated a valid status for the genera Eospalax and Myospalax, and an independent species status for E. baileyi and E. cansus. The Bearded Tit (Panurus biarmicus) is a small passerine bird occurring only in wetland habitats. Three subspecies of the Bearded Tit are known from Turkey. The endemic subspecies Panurus biarmicus kosswigi has only been recorded from Amik Lake in Turkey. This subspecies is now considered extinct; the apparent cause of this extinction was the drought affecting the lake. Other subpopulations might be similarly threatened by habitat loss. In this study, Agathidinae (Braconidae: Hymenoptera) fauna of the Elazığ, Erzincan, Malatya, and Tunceli provinces of the Eastern Anatolia Region was investigated during the years 2007 and 2008. During the study period, 17 species were identified belonging to the genera Agathis Latreille, 1804; Bassus Fabricius, 1804; and Disophrys Förster, 1862. Two species were recorded from Turkey for the first time: Agathis tatarica Telenga, 1933 and Bassus tegularis (Thomson, 1895). All of these species are new to the fauna of the 4 provinces of the Eastern Anatolia Region.

Karyological Data And Meiosis Of Drassyllus Praeficus (L. Koch, 1866) (Gnaphosidae) And Thanatus Imbecillus (L. Koch, 1878) (Philodromidae) From Turkey, Zübeyde Kumbiçak, Ayla Karataş, Ümi̇t Kumbiçak, Osman Seyyar

In this study, karyotypic and cytogenetic characteristics of Drassyllus praeficus (L. Koch, 1866) and Thanatus imbecillus (L. Koch, 1878) were investigated for the first time by examining mitotic and meiotic chromosomes obtained from gonad cells. The number and the sex chromosome system of D. praeficus and T. imbecillus males was 2n = 22 (X_{1}X_{2}0) and 2n = 28 (X_{1}X_{2}0), respectively. D. praeficus had 10 autosomal bivalents and 2 univalent sex chromosomes, and T. imbecillus had 13 autosomal bivalents and 2 univalent sex chromosomes during the first meiotic prophase and metaphase. Both species possessed acrocentric chromosomes in their karyotypes.
