Leachate Toxicity Assessment And Bioremediation Of Leachate Contaminated Soil / Emenike Chijioke Uche, Emenike Chijioke Uche

Student Works (2010-2019)

Chemical evaluations and characterization had often served as the commonly adopted options for assessing the potential impact of pollutants, which at the same time provide insight into the possible remediation technologies. However, heterogeneous substances may not be best studied in aforementioned forms because of the varied characteristics and concentrations of the discrete components. Leachate which is the liquid by-product of waste decomposition in landfills or dump sites is one such heterogeneous fluid that can easily pollute the environment (terrestrial and aquatic). With increase in waste generation in Malaysia, leachate production becomes inevitable especially as landfilling is the ultimate predominant waste …

Morphological And Molecular Characterisation Of Monogeneans / Tan Wooi Boon, Wooi Boon Tan

Student Works (2010-2019)

Morphologies and morphometries as diagnostic characters are shown statistically to be able to differentiate between species and intraspecific variants. Intraspecific variants or morphovariants exist in nature but the variations they possessed are not enough to consider them as species (differentiation index values for morphovariants is 50% less than the values for species). These variations are due to genetic difference resulting from cross-fertilisations between different individuals of the same species. Such variations are necessary tools for future species diversification. The 28S rDNA are able to group members of the major dactylogyridean families together showing the monophyly of these families within the …

Probabilistic Properties And Statistical Inference For A Family Of Generalised And Related Distributions / Liew Kian Wah, Kian Wah Liew

Student Works (2010-2019)

Three generalised distributions are studied in this thesis from different aspects. The Hurwitz-Lerch zeta distribution (HLZD) that generalises the logarithmic distribution and a class of distributions that follows the power law is considered. To investigate the effects of parameters on the stochastic properties of the HLZD, stochastic orders between members in this large family are established. A relationship between the tail behaviours of the HLZD and that of a class of generalised logarithmic distribution is highlighted. The HLZD has shown good flexibilities in empirical modelling. A robust probability generating function based estimation method using Hellinger-type divergence is implemented in data-fitting …
