Cleerhub.Org Adoption By Eafit University Engineering Faculty Members: A Longitudinal Study, Diego M. Mendez Mena
Cleerhub.Org Adoption By Eafit University Engineering Faculty Members: A Longitudinal Study, Diego M. Mendez Mena
Purdue Polytechnic Masters Theses
The main purpose of this study is to identify and comprehend faculty members’ perception of attributes of the diffusion of the technological innovation CLEERhub.org at EAFIT University, College of Engineering, in Medellin, Colombia. Moreover, this work attempts to understand causes and motivators that might lead to innovation adoption or rejection. The Diffusion of Innovations Theory serves as the framework to develop an appropriate assessing instrument that allows accurate measuring of user opinions towards the practice of CLEERhub.org in their educational research work in Engineering. In order to correctly assess user perception of the embracement process of such technological/cyberinfrastructure innovation, the …
Trust Issues: Will President Barack Obama Reconcile The Tenuous Relationship Between Antitrust Enforcement Agencies?, Kelly Everett
Trust Issues: Will President Barack Obama Reconcile The Tenuous Relationship Between Antitrust Enforcement Agencies?, Kelly Everett
Journal of the National Association of Administrative Law Judiciary
Given the importance President Obama has placed on antitrust law, this comment will address the tenuous relationship between the FTC and the DOJ, and the likelihood the Obama Administration will reconcile it. This comment will first explore the development and purpose of antitrust law in the United States. Second, it will discuss why the FTC and DOJ have a contentious and ineffective relationship. Third, it will address the narrowing effect the Obama Administration is likely to have on antitrust enforcement, despite the downturned economy. Finally, this comment will summarize what circumstances created a climate of under-enforcement and uncertainty, and describe …

A Global Fingerprint Of Macro-Scale Changes In Urban Structure From 1999 To 2009, Steve Frolking, Tom Milliman, Karen C. Seto, Mark A. Friedl
Earth Sciences
Urban population now exceeds rural population globally, and 60–80% of global energy consumption by households, businesses, transportation, and industry occurs in urban areas. There is growing evidence that built-up infrastructure contributes to carbon emissions inertia, and that investments in infrastructure today have delayed climate cost in the future. Although the United Nations statistics include data on urban population by country and select urban agglomerations, there are no empirical data on built-up infrastructure for a large sample of cities. Here we present the first study to examine changes in the structure of the world's largest cities from 1999 to 2009. Combining …

The Relationship Between The Perceived Level Of Contribution Of Virtual Team Members And Their Energization Source As Described By Jung's Typology, Edward Carl Bartone
The Relationship Between The Perceived Level Of Contribution Of Virtual Team Members And Their Energization Source As Described By Jung's Typology, Edward Carl Bartone
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
The increasing use of virtual teams as a result of advances in technology has altered the manner in which team members communicate and interact (Holton, 2001). The media-rich faceto- face team environment has frequently given way to asynchronous communication, using tools such as emails and discussion threads (Ohler, 2004). This study focused on the role of personality type in the emerging academic asynchronous environment; specifically, it explored the relationship between the Jungian dimension of energization (introversion vs. extroversion) of a team member and the perceived level of contribution of that team member to a team in an academic asynchronous virtual …

Geographic Variation In Chin Shape Challenges The Universal Facial Attractiveness Hypothesis, Zaneta M. Thayer, Seth D. Dobson
Geographic Variation In Chin Shape Challenges The Universal Facial Attractiveness Hypothesis, Zaneta M. Thayer, Seth D. Dobson
Dartmouth Scholarship
The universal facial attractiveness (UFA) hypothesis proposes that some facial features are universally preferred because they are reliable signals of mate quality. The primary evidence for this hypothesis comes from cross-cultural studies of perceived attractiveness. However, these studies do not directly address patterns of morphological variation at the population level. An unanswered question is therefore: Are universally preferred facial phenotypes geographically invariant, as the UFA hypothesis implies? The purpose of our study is to evaluate this often overlooked aspect of the UFA hypothesis by examining patterns of geographic variation in chin shape. We collected symphyseal outlines from 180 recent human …

Gay And Lesbian Literature In The Classroom: Can Gay Themes Overcome Heteronormativity?, April M. Sanders, Janelle B. Mathis Ph.D.
Journal of Praxis in Multicultural Education
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) characters do exist in children’s and young adult literature, yet there is a lack of classroom exposure to such literature. Educational organizations have realized the need for dispelling prejudices about LGBT people by including such texts in the classroom as well as discussions regarding LGBT themes and characters in the books. Yet the practice of simply including diverse texts without discussing LGBT issues could cause greater marginalization for students because the silence regarding LGBT issues and characters encourages the practice of heteronormativity. This inquiry examined a range of children’s and adolescent books that could …
Alternative Conceptions, Jonathan Pragle
Alternative Conceptions, Jonathan Pragle
The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research
In lieu of an abstract, below is the first paragraph of the paper.
Today's student may be very different from the students who came through schools many years ago; however there is one thing that unites them all, alternative conceptions. In every subject there are false ideas that are believed to be true. Why? Human nature. It is our nature as human beings to understand how everything fits into place. These understandings will consist of whatever makes sense to us. Everyone on this planet makes assumptions about the way the world works; these assumptions are a way to ease the …
Hope Is Round And Leather: Football Unifies A Strife-Torn Haiti, Matthew Guinto
Hope Is Round And Leather: Football Unifies A Strife-Torn Haiti, Matthew Guinto
The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research
In lieu of an abstract, below is the first paragraph of the paper.
In strife-torn Caribbean nations such as Haiti, hope is hard to come by. Poverty and political conflicts throughout its history too often overshadow the islands' stunning beauty and color. In these warm-climate islands that cry out for structure, only sport responds. In the Caribbean, the calendar year isn't split by the season's winter, spring, fall and summer, but "into cricket season and football season" (Hislop qtd. in Ferguson vii). Football, the proper and logical term for what America calls soccer, provides an opportunity that is often sought …
A Voice Of Peace: Mother Teresa, Sidita Kushi
A Voice Of Peace: Mother Teresa, Sidita Kushi
The Review: A Journal of Undergraduate Student Research
In lieu of an abstract, below is the first paragraph of the paper.
"The fruit of silence is prayer; the fruit of prayer is faith; the fruit of faith is love; the fruit of love is service; the fruit of service is peace" (Collopy, 31). Service and love for the destitute were Mother Teresa's methods to bring the world one step closer to peace. The extraordinary nun lived a life of self-sacrifice within the Catholic Church. She sacrificed her health, comfort, family and all worldly goods to dedicate her every breath to improving the lives of the poor in India, …
