Transferring Self To Other: Radicalizing Human Being, Jesús Morán

Claritas: Journal of Dialogue and Culture

This article begins by indicating recent developments in philosophical anthropology that provide background for understanding some key elements in the view of what it is to be human that underlie Chiara Lubich’s text “Look at all the Flowers.” The author begins by looking at self-transcendence and notes the shift from previous instances of spirituality that comes about as a result of Chiara Lubich’s context of mutuality, of her reciprocal transfer of self to the other. He then looks at the metaphysical structure that supports this way of being, and explores three core categories: transcendence, relationality, and corporeality. These underpin relationships …

Look At All The Flowers: Editors' Introduction

Claritas: Journal of Dialogue and Culture

Pope Francis presented the following reflection in his homily on July 25, 2013 at the World Youth Day in Rio de Janeiro: “With him [Christ], our life is transformed and renewed, and we can see reality with new eyes, from Jesus’ standpoint, with his own eyes (cf. Lumen Fidei, 18).” In her meditation, “Look at All the Flowers,” Chiara Lubich says that “to look at all the flowers is to have Jesus’ vision.” She presents a short yet deep and mystical reflection on her own experience of seeing reality with “Jesus’ vision.” In this meditation, she also presents the collective …

Treatment For Cervicobrachial Pain Syndrome; A Comparison Of Direct And Indirect Manual Therapies, Brianna Palmer Oct 2013

Treatment For Cervicobrachial Pain Syndrome; A Comparison Of Direct And Indirect Manual Therapies, Brianna Palmer

Critically Appraised Topics (CAT)

An appraisal was made on a randomized controlled trial by Allison et al, which compared direct and indirect manual therapies for treating cervicobrachial pain syndrome. The direct therapy group (NT) received neural mobilizations, and the indirect therapy group (AT) received joint mobilizations for the glenohumeral joint and thoracic spine.

Per the Northwick Park Questionnaire and the Short Form-McGill Pain Questionnaire, decreases in pain were statistically significant for both groups from pre-assessment to post-assessment, but not between groups. When using the Visual Analog Scale, a statistically significant improvement was found for both groups over the treatment period, though only the NT …

Publications and Research

Background The prevalence of cigarette smoking among incarcerated adult men and women is three-four times higher than in the general population, ranging from 70-80%. However, little is known about factors associated with smoking among incarcerated adolescents, especially upon their re-entry into communities after release from jail. The current study explores factors associated with smoking among adolescent males prior to incarceration and one year after their release from jail. Methods We conducted a secondary data analysis of the Returning Educated African-American and Latino Men to Enriched Neighborhoods (REAL MEN) study, which was designed to reduce HIV risk, substance use, and recidivism …

Identifying Best Practices For Engaging Faculty In International Agricultural Education Experiences, Alexa J. Lamm, T. Grady Roberts, Amy Harder, Nicole Stedman, Marta Hartman Oct 2013

Identifying Best Practices For Engaging Faculty In International Agricultural Education Experiences, Alexa J. Lamm, T. Grady Roberts, Amy Harder, Nicole Stedman, Marta Hartman

Journal of Human Sciences and Extension

Universities are being called upon to internationalize curriculum as the need for a globally competent workforce increases. Without globally-competent faculty, international integration within higher education cannot occur. Literature indicates that participation in short-term international agricultural education experiences is important to increasing agricultural faculty members’ cultural awareness. However, the best way to design and implement such experiences for faculty is uncharted. The purpose of the study was to identify best practices for facilitating a short-term international agricultural education experience for faculty in the agricultural and life sciences that encouraged learning, discussion, and reflection leading faculty to further integrate international perspectives in …

Indonesian Journal of International Law

The Asean Security Community (ASC) is a framework to facilitate political and security cooperation in ASEAN. The ASC is a framework based on the idea of comprehensive security with the strategic thrusts of conflict prevention, peaceful conflict resolution, and post-conflict peace building. A framework of this nature represents one of the ultimate goals of ASEAN, which has achieved a record of political cooperation since its inauguration.
