The Fort Stanton Cave Study Project: A Model For Agency – Caver Partnership In Cave Management, National Cave And Karst Research Institute
The Fort Stanton Cave Study Project: A Model For Agency – Caver Partnership In Cave Management, National Cave And Karst Research Institute
KIP Articles
The Fort Stanton Cave Study Project and the Roswell Field Office of the Bureau of Land Management have been working together to manage Fort Stanton Cave for over 40 years. This successful partnership is a shining example of resource managers and resource users collaborating to the mutual benefit of both. There are several specific aspects to this partnership which could be regarded as a model for other user groups and agencies who need or want to enter into a cooperative relationship.

Photographic And Sediment Monitoring Procedures And Initial Results For A Brazilian Iron Ore Cave, National Cave And Karst Research Institute
KIP Articles
The definition, development and application of monitoring procedures for caves are currently in demand in Brazil. The need for environmental licensing processes and effective environmental control actions has been increasing since the beginning of this century due to the intensification of economic activities. This work discusses the development of a method of photographic and sediment monitoring and the application of this method in an iron ore cave. This cave is located inside an industrial area currently under development by a mining company. This situation demands effective and specific environmental control measures. The method's simplicity, effectiveness and multidisciplinary approach indicate that …

A Preliminary Assessment Of Speleothem Sampling Methods For Paleoclimate Research, National Cave And Karst Research Institute
KIP Articles
Speleothems are incomparable archives of paleoclimate information. However, most methods to extract past climate information from speleothems are destructive, because sampling must occur along the growth axis. Development of sustainable methods for sampling these nonrenewable resources, whereby the needs of science and cave conservation are balanced, ought to be a priority of the paleoclimate community. Ergo, I am studying currently practiced field methods in speleothem paleoclimatology. Part 1 of this two-part study entails surveying paleoclimatology labs working on speleothems nationally and internationally. The results of this portion of the survey were converted to an anonymous list of current methods. These …

Egalitarian Division Under Leontief Preferences, Jin Li, Jingyi Xue
Egalitarian Division Under Leontief Preferences, Jin Li, Jingyi Xue
Research Collection School Of Economics
We consider the problem of fairly dividing l divisible goods among n agents with the generalized Leontief preferences. We propose and characterize the class of generalized egalitarian rules which satisfy efficiency, group strategy-proofness, anonymity, resource monotonicity, population monotonicity, envy-freeness and consistency. On the Leontief domain, our rules generalize the egalitarian-equivalent rules with reference bundles. We also extend our rules to agent-specific and endowment-specific egalitarian rules. The former is a larger class of rules satisfying all the previous properties except anonymity and envy-freeness. The latter is a class of efficient, group strategy-proof, anonymous and individually rational rules when the resources are …
School Centres For Teaching Excellence (Scte): Understanding New Directions For Schools And Universities In Health And Physical Education, T Lynch
Plymouth Institute of Education
This paper critically analyzes a community collaborative approach for implementing Health and Physical Education (HPE) lessons within Gippsland primary schools (Victoria, Australia). The rural community collaborations reflected upon are embedded within the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development (DEECD) ‘School Centres for Teaching Excellence’ (SCTE) initiative and are timely with the current curriculum reform in Health and Physical Education. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on and share the experiential learning offered where the curriculum is relevant, engaging, contemporary, physically active, enjoyable and developmentally appropriate for all stakeholders; namely university pre-service teachers, primary school children and …

Uncovering Collaborative Value Creation Patterns And Establishing Corresponding Customer Roles, Sabine Moeller, Robert Ciuchita, Dominik Mahr, Gaby Odekerken-Schroder, Martin Fassnacht
Research Collection Lee Kong Chian School Of Business
Research on value creation traditionally has focused on value created by the company, though customers increasingly serve as active partners, able to create value with firms in a collaborative manner. Despite interest by both scholars and managers, existing research has not yet clarified the interdependencies of service offerings and customer role patterns. This article explores value creation rooted in three generic offerings (configuration, solution, and network) and identifies differences in their prerequisites, customer activities, challenges, abilities, ability enhancers, and perceived benefits that arise in collaborative value creation (CVC). Data from 105 collaborations, collected through in-depth interviews, support the qualitative and …
On Not Inviting Difficulties In Haydn's Symphonies, Benjamin Korstvedt
On Not Inviting Difficulties In Haydn's Symphonies, Benjamin Korstvedt
HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America
In his classic article “Sonata Form Problems” Jens Peter Larsen warned of analytic pitfalls that result from the reliance on anachronistic models of musical form. The modern tradition of taking “textbook sonata form as the starting point,” as he put it with disarming simplicity, often “invites difficulties” in the analysis of Haydn’s sonata forms. This article follows up Larsen’s essay by reconsidering some perceived formal difficulties in Haydn’s symphonies that arise from mismatches between Haydn’s practice and modern expectations. Specifically, it explores ways in which Haydn's symphonies do things that according to the “textbook” are not supposed to happen in …
More Than A Copy: Joseph Haydn's Menuet Al Roverso In Context, Balázs Mikusi
More Than A Copy: Joseph Haydn's Menuet Al Roverso In Context, Balázs Mikusi
HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America
The third movement of Symphony No. 47 has long been celebrated as one of Haydn’s most extraordinary experiments: after the regular first rendering, the music must be played backwards note for note. More recent research, however, has clarified that Haydn’s solution is not without precedents, inevitably implying as if his piece were a mere copy of earlier examples of an existing tradition. This article examines one by one the palindromic minuets the composer may have been familiar with at the time of writing the symphony, eventually suggesting that Haydn’s contribution introduced two important new elements: he increased the dimensions of …

Haydn Documents In North America: Boston Handel And Haydn Society Part Books From 1827 And 1828, Michael Ruhling
HAYDN: Online Journal of the Haydn Society of North America
2015 will mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of Boston's Handel and Haydn Society, the oldest oratorio society in the U. S. During their long history they have been responsible for the first complete performances on this side of the Atlantic of many important works, including Haydn's The Creation and Handel's Messiah. Because of good foresight, or perhaps good fortune, the Handel and Haydn Society has built an interesting collection of historical documents and other materials, the bulk of which were donated to the Boston Public Library in 1978. Over the past three or four years the Boston …
The Use Of Propaganda On An Augustan Denarius, Jens Ibsen, Melissa Miller
The Use Of Propaganda On An Augustan Denarius, Jens Ibsen, Melissa Miller
Featured Research
This coin is a silver denarius minted in Lugdunum (now Lyon), most likely under the reign of Augustus, the first emperor of Rome. There are factors which point to a possibility of the coin being a restitution issue minted under either Trajan or Hadrian, such as its pristine condition, which implies a lack of use, and the similarity of symbols employed on this denarius and denarii of Trajan’s era. The coin is a prime example of Augustus’ use of propaganda inserted into Roman daily life to sell the idea of empire to a Roman people who ardently defended a long-standing …

A Case Study: Achievement Studies Of Persistent, Transitional, And Transient Populations Within The Blitz Program Model At A Large Midwestern Elementary School, Jackie D. Ramey
Dissertations
The United States’ Public Education system shared concerns regarding declining achievement results across the nation. Numerous research studies suggested significant correlations to various variables, such as, SES (Socio-Economic Status), LEP (Limited English Proficiency), IEP (Individualized Educational Programs), ethnicity, and student mobility. The literature suggested these areas of concern need continued research to address specific issues, such as, how to close the educational gaps between students in these categories and students without these characteristics. The Primary Investigator completed a case study to assist decision makers with transient students at a Midwest near-urban elementary school by specifically focusing on fifth grade students …

Juvenile Lifers And Judicial Overrreach: A Curmedgeonly Meditation On Miller V. Alabama, Frank O. Bowman Iii
Missouri Law Review
This Article focuses very little on the implications of Miller and Graham for the population they most directly affect – juvenile offenders previously eligible for sentences of life without parole – and more on the implications of the Court’s reasoning in Miller and Graham for sentencing generally. However gratifying the results of Miller and Graham may be as sentencing policy, they are troubling as a constitutional matter both because they are badly theorized and because they are two strands of a web of decisions in which the Court has consistently used doubtful constitutional interpretations to transfer power over criminal justice …

Originalism: A Critical Introduction, Keith E. Whittington
Originalism: A Critical Introduction, Keith E. Whittington
Fordham Law Review
The theory of originalism is now well into its second wave. Originalism first came to prominence in the 1970s and 1980s as conservative critics reacted to the decisions of the Warren Court, and the Reagan Administration embraced originalism as a check on judicial activism. A second wave of originalism has emerged since the late 1990s, responding to earlier criticisms and reconsidering earlier assumptions and conclusions. This Article assesses where originalist theory currently stands. It outlines the points of agreement and disagreement within the recent originalist literature and highlights the primary areas of continuing separation between originalists and their critics.
