2010 And 2011 Eu Competition Law And Sector-Specific Regulatory Jurisprudence And Case Law Developments With A Nexus To Poland, Anna Mościbroda, Krzysztof Kuik
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
This third overview of EU competition and sector-specific regulatory jurisprudential and case law developments with a nexus to Poland covers the years 2010 and 2011. This period of time is worth noting for several reasons. First, EU courts delivered a significant number of judgments in ‘Polish’ cases including an increased number of preliminary rulings. Second, 2010-2011 developments were dominated by judgments and decisions concerning telecoms. Finally, the Commission adopted only a handful of Polish State aid decisions following a formal investigation procedure under Article 108(2) TFEU. The main developments in telecoms relate to the Court of Justice's preliminary reference judgment …

Gendered Governing: Leadership Experiences Of Seven Women Former Governors, Deborah A. Havens
Gendered Governing: Leadership Experiences Of Seven Women Former Governors, Deborah A. Havens
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Fifty years ago, Second Wave feminists theorized that American culture was dominated by patriarchal systems that subordinated women to second class citizenship status (Brown, 1988; Dolan, Deckman & Swers, 2010). In the 21st century, women have become highly visible candidates for office on a national level. Since 1925, 31 women have served as governors; 20 were elected to office, three replaced their husbands, and eight became governor by Constitutional succession (CAWP, 2012). Many women of the Third Wave generation, or Post-feminists, reject the theory that male oppression continues to influence women’s life choices, some claiming that there is no need …

Intraspecific Diversity In Sinningia Speciosa (Gesneriaceae: Sinningieae), And Possible Origins Of The Cultivated Florist's Gloxinia, David Zaitlin
Intraspecific Diversity In Sinningia Speciosa (Gesneriaceae: Sinningieae), And Possible Origins Of The Cultivated Florist's Gloxinia, David Zaitlin
Kentucky Tobacco Research and Development Center Faculty Publications
BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The florist's gloxinia is a familiar houseplant in the Gesneriaceae, the botanical family that includes the African violet (Saintpaulia) and other ornamental species. The gloxinia's wild progenitor is Sinningia speciosa (Lodd.) Hiern, a Brazilian endemic. Although it has been cultivated for almost 200 years, little is known about the genetic diversity in S. speciosa, how the wild populations relate to one another or even where the cultivated forms originated. Using available wild collections, preliminary phenetic and phylogenetic investigations were conducted to elucidate the interspecific relationships within S. speciosa and to infer the origins of the cultivars.

The Forensic Burke: A For(U)Mative Member Of The Parlor, Courtney James Wright
The Forensic Burke: A For(U)Mative Member Of The Parlor, Courtney James Wright
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
In this study, I detail the forensics education of Kenneth Burke, a leading rhetorical theorist and critic of the twentieth century. After investigating this previously unexamined area, I argue that Burke’s competitive forensics experiences pivotally informed his rhetorical schema. Theoretically guided by Burke’s pivotal term the forensic, I begin by mapping the contours of Burke’s educational biography. Next, I analyze and reconstruct Burke’s forensics education by focusing on the forensic organizations of Peabody High School, Burke’s literary society experiences at Ohio State University and Columbia University, and the literary activities of Greenwich Village. Finally, I proffer connections between forensics …
What Do Limitation Periods For Sanctions In Antitrust Matters Really Limit?, Ondrej Blažo
What Do Limitation Periods For Sanctions In Antitrust Matters Really Limit?, Ondrej Blažo
Yearbook of Antitrust and Regulatory Studies
Limitation periods represent a legal safeguard for a person who has once broken the law in order not to be put at risk of sanctions and other legal liabilities for an indefinite amount of time. By contrast, public interest can sometimes require that a person who has committed a serious breach of law cannot benefit from limitation periods and that it is necessary to declare that the law had indeed been infringed and that legal liability shall be expected irrespective of the passage of time. This article aims to answer the question whether limitation periods for sanctions attached to competition …
