The author analyses an example of one of the largest Polish banks, which implemented the system of bonuses within the Management by Objectives (MbO) system. Drawing from a long financier’s experience the author empirically shows the imperfection of the MbO application, but not undermining the …

The Economic Costs Of Economic Risk In The Financial Market, Renata Karkowska
The Economic Costs Of Economic Risk In The Financial Market, Renata Karkowska
European Management Studies
Review of the world literature on the nature of systemic risk indicates a large variation of the definition. One definition is as follows: systematic risk is the probability that the financial system will fall apart due to external actions, dysfunctions in the functioning of the systematically important financial institutions, or a loss of confidence among financial market participants, leading to the loss of market value of trust assets or their issuers of such a large scale in order to have a negative impact on the real side of the economy. This understanding of systemic risk diminishes public finances by: 1) …

An ever growing group of old-age pensioners, whose retirement benefits are much lower than the income which they used to receive when they worked, searches for alternative sources of financing. A possible solution to solve a problem of the Polish potential old-age pensioner is to create mechanisms enabling them to derive financial benefits from the non-financial assets accumulated during their professional life. Such assets may be used as a source of a current additional income. One of the instruments allowing the retired to acquire additional funds is the so-called equity release. On the global markets this service has already been …

Social Situations And Alcohol: The Effect Of Social Context On Alcohol Expectancies, Idan Ariel
Social Situations And Alcohol: The Effect Of Social Context On Alcohol Expectancies, Idan Ariel
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Alcohol is one of the most widely used recreational drugs in the United States today, despite being associated with a myriad of negative effects. Alcohol consumption occurs most frequently within social contexts, and seems to be strongly related to many social factors. It is known that an individual's expectations of the effects of alcohol influences his/her drinking behavior, and that social alcohol expectancies are some of the most frequently reported expectancies. In this study, we explored the relationship between alcohol expectancies and social influences by examining whether exposure to a social context would differentially activate alcohol expectancies. 115 young-adult male …

Two such contributory variables are anxiety-induced selective processing bias and theorized subsequent explicit memory avoidance. The purpose of the present study was to examine the impact of one-session in vivo exposure treatment on selective processing bias and explicit memory avoidance immediately following successful treatment of stimulus-specific anxiety as well as at one-week and one-month follow-up. Participants (N = 60) were assigned to one of three groups: (1) the treatment group, composed of individuals who were fearful …

It will address the criticism that Dibble had to endure by discussing specific incidents involved with certain works of art. Although there were plenty of people who did not like modern art, there were some institutions and people who were advocates of this progressive form of …
Methods For Identifying Acoustic Emissions From The Front Face Of A Small Piezoelectric Blower, Brad K. Solomon
Methods For Identifying Acoustic Emissions From The Front Face Of A Small Piezoelectric Blower, Brad K. Solomon
Theses and Dissertations
This thesis focuses on identifying acoustic noise generating components in piezoelectric blowers through transverse velocity measurements and the development of a numerical fluid model. Piezoelectric ceramics have proven useful for many industries and areas of research involving: high precision actuators, noise control, ultrasonic devices, and many other areas. As of late, a unique adaptation of piezoelectric ceramics is surfacing in the area of pumping and cooling. Air pumps that use these ceramics replace the traditional electric motor, resulting in lower power consumption, less moving parts, constant pressure gradients, lower overall weight, and a low profile. The current drawback of this …

Estimating The Risk Of Changes In Stock Prices By Field Division, Grzegorz Przekota
Estimating The Risk Of Changes In Stock Prices By Field Division, Grzegorz Przekota
European Management Studies
This work concerns the problem of risk measurement in share prices. The classic measures are the most popular: variance, standard deviation and coefficient of variation. Among the most popular non-classical measure is the fractal dimension, including the Hurst exponent. The paper proposes an alternative method of calculating the fractal dimension of time series. It determines how strongly the time series fulfills its space and is used inter alia for the characterization of stock market data series due to the degree of “fraying”. Fractal dimension was calculated for time series trading stock indices WIG and WIG20 in 2008-2011. The results can …
