However carbamazepine's tolerance and side effect are still major problems. Patient diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia has to suffer with their facial pain and their daily life, because the patient’s activity, such as talking, chewing, can cause a severe pain. Common Causes In Acute Scrotal Pain, Pat Saksirisampant, Patranuch Noppakulsatit
Asian Medical Journal and Alternative Medicine
Patients with acute scrotal pain can be categorized into 2 major groups, pain-predominant and swelling-predominant group. The pain-predominant group is a very crucial one, which is needed to be diagnosed and treated as quickly as possible. Delayed management may cause loss of testis. The most common conditions are testicular torsion, torsion of the testicular appendage and acute epididymitis. Managements are different in each disease. Testicular torsion is a true emergency condition requiring immediate operation otherwise the patient will lose his testis due to prolonged testicular ischemia. Does Memory Predict Decline In Activities Of Daily Living In Older Adults With Alzheimer's Disease?, Sarah West, Robert Mccue, Charles Golden
Archives of Assessment Psychology
As the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) increases, neuropsychologists will need to make accurate recommendations regarding cognitive and functional decline in these individuals. Since memory impairment is the hallmark of AD, this study examined whether auditory and visual memory could significantly predict deficits in self-care activities. Participants were older adults diagnosed with AD, who received a neuropsychological battery assessing their functional decline and memory. Of auditory memory measures, immediate auditory memory was significantly correlated with declines financial and medication management; none of the auditory memory measures were significantly correlated with declines in driving, dressing, grooming, or feeding abilities. Territory, Wilderness, Property, And Reservation: Land And Religion In Native American Supreme Court Cases, Kathleen Sands
American Indian Law Review
In two trilogies of Supreme Court Decisions, both involving Native Americans, land is a key metaphor, figuring variously as property, territory, wilderness, and reservation. The first trilogy, written by Chief Justice John Marshall, comprises Johnson v. M'Intosh (1823), Cherokee Nation v. Georgia (1831), and Worcester v. Georgia (1832). The second trilogy concerns Native American claims for religious freedom under the First Amendment and includes Bowen v. Roy (1986), Lyng v. Northwest Cemetery Protective Association (1988), and Employment Division of Oregon v. Smith (1990). The Marshal cases attempted to legitimate the transformation of land from wilderness to territory and property, and …

"[This] I Know From My Grandfather:" The Battle For Admissibility Of Indigenous Oral History As Proof Of Tribal Land Claims, Hope M. Babcock
American Indian Law Review
A major obstacle indigenous land claimants must face is the applicationof federal evidentiary rules, like the hearsay doctrine, which block the useof oral history to establish legal claims. It is often oral history and storiesthat tribes rely upon as evidence to support their claims, reducingsubstantially the likelihood of a tribe prevailing. Indigenous oral historypresents unique challenges to judges when faced with its admissibility.Canadian courts have largely overcome these challenges by interpretingevidentiary rules liberally, in favor of the aborigines. As such, Canadianaborigines have enjoyed greater land claim success than indigenousclaimants in the United States, raising the question why United Statescourts do …

Nothing As Practical As A Good Theory? The Theoretical Basis Of Hiv Prevention Interventions For Young People In Sub-Saharan Africa: A Systematic Review, Kristien Michielsen, Matthew Chersich, Marleen Temmerman, Tessa Dooms, Ronan Van Rossem
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa
This paper assesses the extent to which HIV prevention interventions for young people in sub-Saharan Africa are grounded in theory and if theory-based interventions are more effective. Three databases were searched for evaluation studies of HIV prevention interventions for youth. Additional articles were identified on websites of international organisations and through searching references. 34 interventions were included; 25 mentioned the use of theory. Social Cognitive Theory was most prominent (n = 13), followed by Health Belief Model (n = 7), and Theory of Reasoned Action/Planned Behaviour (n = 6). These cognitive behavioural theories assume that cognitions drive sexual behaviour. Reporting …

Sexual Coercion Among In-School Adolescents In Rwanda: Prevalence And Correlates Of Victimization And Normative Acceptance, Els Van Decraen, Kristien Michielsen, Sarah Herbots, Ronan Van Rossem, Marleen Temmerman
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, East Africa
Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to sexual coercion, as victim as well as perpetrator. This paper aims to adapt sexual and reproductive health interventions to the reality of young people’s sexuality and relationships. This study assesses the prevalence of forced sex, characteristics of victims and norms regarding sexual coercion among Rwandan adolescents. A survey was completed by 285 senior secondary school students and four focus groups were conducted. Of sexually active respondents, 15.5% (95% CI = [15.1 – 15.9]) reported forced sexual intercourse. Sexual victimization was associated with being female and having (had) a concurrent sexual relationship. Acceptance of sexual coercion …
