Modeling And Characterization Of Power Distribution Networks With Installed Distributed Generation And Connected Phevs, Santhosh Basineni

This thesis is focused on the modeling and characterization of power distribution networks with installed distributed generation and connected plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV). A PHEV charging/discharging (bidirectional) model has been developed in MATLAB®-Simulink. Installed photovoltaic systems with varying irradiance rates are modeled and characterized. Moreover, installed wind generators with varying wind speeds are modeled and characterized. Furthermore, the charging and discharging characteristics of connected PHEV are determined. The system characteristics are determined and investigated against the PHEV battery state of charge (SOC).

The purpose of this project was to build and evaluate internal communication interventions that would enhance employee engagement. The desired outcome of the communication team’s efforts was to show a significant increase in employee engagement, as compared to peer institutions.

Group treatment is widely used for the treatment of juveniles who sexually offend (Letourneau and Borduin, 2008; Veneziano and Veneziano, 2002), yet research into the participant's perceptions and experience of this treatment is almost non-existent (Sribney and Reddon, 2008). This study investigates the perceptions and concerns of a sample (N=198) of incarcerated male juvenile sex offenders in regards to their experience of group treatment and reported iatrogenic effects. Measures of hopelessness and anxiety were also tested in relationship to feelings of group experience, after controlling for age. Overall, the participants reported satisfaction with their group treatment and low levels of …

STAT5B, a specific member of the ST AT family, is intimately associated with prostate tumor progression. While the full form of STAT5B is thought to promote tumor progression, a naturally occurring truncated isoform acts as a tumor suppressor. We previously demonstrated that truncated STAT5 is generated by insertion of an alternatively spliced exon and results in the introduction of an early termination codon. Tides are the rise and fall of water level caused by gravitational forces exerted by the sun, moon and earth. Understanding sea level variation and its impact currents is very important especially in coastal regions. With knowledge of the tide-generating force and boundary conditions, hydrodynamic models can be used to predict or model tides in coastal regions. However, these models are not sufficiently accurate, and in-situ tide gauge data may be used to improve them in coastal regions. Completion Of Hankel Partial Contractions Of Extremal Type, Raúl E. Curto, Sang Hoon Lee, Jasang Yoon

We find concrete necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of contractive completions of Hankel partial contractions of size 4 × 4 in the extremal case. Along the way we introduce a new approach that allows us to solve, algorithmically, the contractive completion problem for 4 × 4 Hankel matrices. As an application, we obtain a concrete example of a partially contractive 4 × 4 Hankel matrix, which does not admit a contractive completion.

In recent years, the field of gambling in Italy has registered significant growth and Italians have demonstrated high propensity to play. The purpose of this article is to analyze the dynamics of such growth, in particular of the sectors that have developed more than others, and the effect of State policies and regulations on decisions taken by economic operators. From our research, it emerges that the gambling sector has been affected by a complex and contradictory State normative policy. This paper looks at the recent history of allocation of exclusive franchise or limited franchise casino licenses in jurisdictions throughout the world and comments on their strengths and weaknesses as well as successes and failures of various strategies that have been undertaken. The paper then examines the Kansas legalization and bidding process that emerged between 2007 and 2009 as a case study in evaluating the effectiveness of various principles that had emerged via the legislation and subsequent procedural decisions. The Relationship Between Gambling Behavior And Binge Drinking, Hard Drug Use, And Paying For Sex, Douglas M. Walker, Christopher Clark, Jessie L. Folk

We examine the relationship between gambling behavior and other "vices": hard drug use, binge drinking, and paying for sex. We utilize survey data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, a comprehensive survey of a representative sample of young adults in the US. We analyze survey data on the behavior of 6,145 respondents using linear probability modeling and a comprehensive set of control variables. Our results indicate that individuals who exhibit signs of problem gambling behavior are significantly more likely to use hard drugs, to binge drink, and to pay for sex. The study brings to the forefront a discussion of corporate social responsibility of gaming operators. It assessed Macao high school students' and teachers' perceptions of the extent of social responsibility being exercised by the six local gaming operators, as well as their support for the operators, and desire for further gaming investment and work opportunities in the gaming sector. The majority of the respondents were not aware of gaming operators exercising socially responsible activities.
