Trust Management Of Encrypted Data Aggregation In A Sensor Network Environment, Nayot Poolsappasit, Michael Busby, Sanjay Kumar Madria Dec 2012

Trust Management Of Encrypted Data Aggregation In A Sensor Network Environment, Nayot Poolsappasit, Michael Busby, Sanjay Kumar Madria

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Efficient power management is vital for increasing the life of sensor nodes in wireless sensor networks (WSN). Thus, techniques such as data aggregation have been widely used in WSN to preserve nodes' energy. Despite its appealing and powerful features, data aggregation processes require a high level of security. Ensuring accuracy with aggregating data can become an issue even due to single bit errors. Hence, many encryption techniques have been proposed to secure the data aggregation process. However, once a wireless sensor is physically compromised, the keys stored on the sensor are exposed, thus rendering the cryptography useless. Moreover, most cryptographic …

Interactions Of Aqueous Ag+ With Fulvic Acids: Mechanisms Of Silver Nanoparticle Formation And Investigation Of Stability, Nathaniel F. Adegboyega, Virender K. Sharma, Karolina Siskova, Radek Zboril, Mary Sohn, Brian J. Schultz, Sarbajit Banerjee

Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Faculty Publications

This study investigated the possible natural formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in Ag+ −fulvic acid (FA) solutions under various environmentally relevant conditions (temperature, pH, and UV light). Increase in temperature (24−90 °C) and pH (6.1−9.0) of Ag+ −Suwannee River fulvic acid (SRFA) solutions accelerated the appearance of the characteristic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) of AgNPs. The rate of AgNP formation via reduction of Ag+ in the presence of different FAs (SRFA, Pahokee Peat fulvic acid, PPFA, Nordic lake fulvic acid, NLFA) and Suwannee River humic acid (SRHA) followed the order NLFA > SRHA > PPFA > SRFA. This order was found to be …

Secure Hierarchical Data Aggregation In Wireless Sensor Networks: Performance Evaluation And Analysis, Vimal Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Madria Dec 2012

Secure Hierarchical Data Aggregation In Wireless Sensor Networks: Performance Evaluation And Analysis, Vimal Kumar, Sanjay Kumar Madria

Computer Science Faculty Research & Creative Works

Secure data aggregation in wireless sensor networks has two contrasting objectives, i) Efficiently collecting and aggregating data and ii) Aggregating the data securely. Many schemes do not take into account the possibility of corrupt aggregators and allow the aggregator to decrypt data in hop-by-hop algorithms. on the other hand, using public key cryptography for providing end to end security is not energy efficient. in this paper we present and analyze the performance of the secure hierarchical data aggregation algorithm which uses an efficient public key cryptosystem (elliptic curve cryptography) to achieve end to end security. Unlike many other secure data …

Development Of A Smart Insole System For Real-Time Detection Of Temporal Gait Parameters And Related Deviations In Unilateral Lower-Limb Amputees, Monica Stalin Dec 2012

Development Of A Smart Insole System For Real-Time Detection Of Temporal Gait Parameters And Related Deviations In Unilateral Lower-Limb Amputees, Monica Stalin

Open Access Theses

Gait is a complex cycle with both between and within limb variability. It should be studied carefully using justifiable and accurate measures. Unilateral lower limb amputees often favor and stress their intact limb during most of the functional activities. This can lead to secondary comorbidities or complications like degenerative arthritis, back pain that may affect the mobility and quality of life. Symmetry is an issue in the gait of amputees because of the unnatural asymmetry imposed on the biomechanical system by the prosthesis. Current gait assessment techniques monitor the symmetry of macroscopic gait parameters like stance and swing period durations. …

Advanced Computing Methods For Knowledge Discovery And Prognosis In Acoustic Emission Monitoring, Felipe Mejia

Open Access Dissertations

Structural health monitoring (SHM) has gained significant popularity in the last decade. This growing interest, coupled with new sensing technologies, has resulted in an overwhelming amount of data in need of management and useful interpretation. Acoustic emission (AE) testing has been particularly fraught by the problem of growing data and is made the focus of this dissertation. The dissertation is divided into three studies, the first of which attempts to identify the computing resources necessary for the acquisition, management, and analysis of AE datasets. A computing framework capable of managing AE data is designed and implemented using the methods described …

Acoustic Emission Assessment Of Steel Bridge Details Subjected To Fatigue, Navid Nemati Dec 2012

Acoustic Emission Assessment Of Steel Bridge Details Subjected To Fatigue, Navid Nemati

Open Access Dissertations

Acoustic Emission (AE) fatigue crack monitoring has the potential to provide early fatigue crack detection and assessment required to develop a rational prognostics methodology and can provide insight to assess the integrity of structures such as bridges. Most steel structures develop fatigue cracks at the transverse weld toe of stiffeners, attachments, and cover plates. The cracks develop from a combination of initial conditions (e.g. weld toe geometry, discontinuities, residual stress fields) that are difficult to accurately quantify, thus rendering fracture mechanics models for the prediction of fatigue crack growth exceedingly difficult without experimental verification. Single edge notches provide a very …

Characterization Of The Phenotypic Differences Between Wild Type And Effector Caspase Deficient Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts, Matthew R. Brentnall Dec 2012

Characterization Of The Phenotypic Differences Between Wild Type And Effector Caspase Deficient Mouse Embryonic Fibroblasts, Matthew R. Brentnall

Open Access Dissertations

The caspase family of proteins consists of upstream initiator caspases that activate downstream effector caspases, which are responsible for the proteolytic cleavage of many hundreds of proteins during apoptosis. Caspases 7 and 3 cleave a variety of proteins that lead to the hallmarks of apoptosis including, nuclear condensation, DNA fragmentation and membrane blebbing. Classically, caspase 7 and 3 were thought of as redundant because they share a 49.2 % amino acid sequence identity, a 62.0 % amino acid sequence similarity and have the same preferred cleavage motif (DEVD). However, recent data have demonstrated that caspase 7 and 3 are distinct …

Effects Of Crossflow Velocity And Transmembrane Pressure On Microfiltration Of Oil-In-Water Emulsions, Nikolai V. Priezjev, Tohid Darvishzadeh Dec 2012

Effects Of Crossflow Velocity And Transmembrane Pressure On Microfiltration Of Oil-In-Water Emulsions, Nikolai V. Priezjev, Tohid Darvishzadeh

Mechanical and Materials Engineering Faculty Publications

This study addresses the issue of oil removal from water using hydrophilic porous membranes. The effective separation of oil-in-water dispersions involves high flux of water through the membrane and, at the same time, high rejection rate of the oil phase. The effects of transmembrane pressure and crossflow velocity on rejection of oil droplets and thin oil films by pores of different cross-section are investigated numerically by solving the Navier-Stokes equation. We found that in the absence of crossflow, the critical transmembrane pressure, which is required for the oil droplet entry into a circular pore of a given surface hydrophilicity, agrees …

Analysis Of Stomach And Gut Microbiomes Of The Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea Virginica) From Coastal Louisiana, Usa, Gary M. King, Craig Judd, Cheryl R. Kuske, Conor Smith

Faculty Publications

We used high throughput pyrosequencing to characterize stomach and gut content microbiomes of Crassostrea virginica, the Easter oyster, obtained from two sites, one in Barataria Bay (Hackberry Bay) and the other in Terrebonne Bay (Lake Caillou), Louisiana, USA. Stomach microbiomes in oysters from Hackberry Bay were overwhelmingly dominated by Mollicutes most closely related to Mycoplasma; a more rich community dominated by Planctomyctes occurred in Lake Caillou oyster stomachs. Gut communities for oysters from both sites differed from stomach communities, and harbored a relatively diverse assemblage of phylotypes. Phylotypes most closely related to Shewanella and a Chloroflexi strain dominated the Lake …

Aims. We present 11 high-precision photometric transitobservations of the transiting super-Earth planet GJ≠1214≠b. Combining these data with observations from other authors, we investigate the ephemeris for possible signs of transit timing variations (TTVs) using a Bayesian approach. Methods. The observations were obtained using telescope-defocusing techniques, and achieve a high precision with random errors in the photometry as low as 1 mmag per point. To investigate the possibility of TTVs in the light curve, we calculate the overall probability of a TTV signal using Bayesian methods. Results. The observations are used to determine the photometric parameters and the physical …

In Search Of Real Fathers: Plenzdorf's Die Neuen Leiden Des Jungen W. And Vater, Mutter, Mörderkind, Michelle Schwoebel

Theses and Dissertations

Plenzdorf's works, one written before the fall of socialism in the German Democratic Republic (hereafter referred to as the DDR), and one after, portray relationships between fathers and sons, which act as a metaphor to express a personal perspective of the state, revealing that the DDR was neither as repressive or as omnipresent for the average citizen as outsiders are often given to believe. The father, or Übervater, a figure deeply rooted in the German consciousness, is represented by the state and proves itself as an entity which gives the protagonists in both works little notice, despite their best efforts …
