Demand-Driven Success: Designing Your Pda Experiment, Charles Hillen, Glenn Johnson-Grau
Charleston Library Conference
Initiating demand-driving acquisition is daunting. Implications for developing a sustainable budget model, choosing a vendor, controlling metadata, monitoring purchases and developing invoice workflows are significant areas of concern that require determinative planning. From mid-February through August 2011, Loyola Marymount University conducted a pilot using demand-driven acquisition; the result of this successful experiment was the library’s decision to fully integrate this purchasing model into its operations. In this session, we will share our process and qualifying decision criteria for configuring the experiment, monitoring its progress and assessing the results. Using an already established vendor, we assessed the purchase trigger model, controlled …

Win Friends And Influence Faculty: Methods For Citation Analysis, Leslie Farison
Charleston Library Conference
Citation analysis is a way to analyze references cited in scholarly publications. It is common for academic organizations to evaluate faculty research and publication records, especially for hiring, pay, promotion and tenure decisions, by comparing the quality and quantity of a candidate’s research with that of their peers. One of the ways for a faculty member to demonstrate the impact of their work in a field is to conduct a citation analysis. This paper examines the capabilities and problems associated with various commercial products that can be used to conduct a citation analysis and looks at the strengths and limitations …

Let Go And Haul! A Square‐Rigger’S Guide To Weeding “Age Of Sail” Collections In The 21st Century, Valarie Prescott Adams, Douglas Black
Charleston Library Conference
This nautically tinged talk explores what happens when two academic libraries begin reshaping their approach to collection evaluation and management by designing programs for large‐scale, systematic collection review. At both libraries, methodical and comprehensive weeding had not taken place for decades, if ever. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga restructured its collection practices by implementing a subject liaison program and creating a carefully phased review process in which discipline faculty were an integral part. Northern Michigan University set out to halve the size of its circulating collection within five years, as part of the library’s response to a campus‐wide strategic …

We analyze the geographic location of 77,451 different Italian surnames (17,579,891 individuals) obtained from the lists of telephone subscribers of the year 1993.
By using a specific neural network analysis (Self-Organizing Maps, SOMs), we automatically identify the geographic origin of 49,117 different surnames. To validate the methodology, we compare the results to a study, previously conducted, on the same database, with accurate supervised methods. By comparing the results, we find an overlap of 97%, meaning that the SOMs methodology is highly reliable and well traces back the geographic origin of surnames at the time of their introduction (Late Middle Ages/Renaissance …

River recreation is a rapidly expanding source of economic productivity. Angler spending has been used as the basis for estimating the regional economic estimates of local income and jobs in several water-limited systems of the western United States and Mexico. However, the contribution of outdoor recreation to the economies of regions that do not experience water scarcity continues to be underappreciated. This paper estimates the economic contribution of angling to the lower Connecticut River Watershed (CRW) economy. The authors draw upon existing angler expenditure, river flow and geographic information system (GIS) data to relate anger use of the lower CRW …

Speaking Of Rivers: Demystifying Foreign-Born Blacks Through A Secondary Esl Context, C. D. Williams
Theses and Dissertations
Linguistic imperialism and societal assumptions can become dominant issues that lessen the significance of the identity, language, culture, and communication of minorities in English as a second language (ESL) settings, which may hinder the possibilities of acceptance and success (Amin, 1997; Ibrahim, 1999; Morgan, 1997; Ogbu, 1992a). Students from Africa and West Indies, foreign-born Blacks, represent English language learners (ELLs) who have distinct cultural and linguistic mores that often go unnoticed. Foreign-born Blacks possess uncommon mother tongues and cultural behaviors that present struggles with salient entrenched racialization in ESL because the historical aspects of English are associated with Whiteness, dominance, …

The Use Of Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors In Biomechanics And Rehabilitation Applications: The State-Of-The-Art And Ongoing Research Topics, Faisal Rafiq Mahamd Adikan, E. Al-Fakih, Noor Azuan Abu Osman
Research Publications (2011 to 2015)
In recent years, fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are becoming increasingly attractive for sensing applications in biomechanics and rehabilitation engineering due to their advantageous properties like small size, light weight, biocompatibility, chemical inertness, multiplexing capability and immunity to electromagnetic interference (EMI). They also offer a high-performance alternative to conventional technologies, either for measuring a variety of physical parameters or for performing high-sensitivity biochemical analysis. FBG-based sensors demonstrated their feasibility for specific sensing applications in aeronautic, automotive, civil engineering structure monitoring and undersea oil exploration; however, their use in the field of biomechanics and rehabilitation applications is very recent and its practicality …

BACKGROUND: Maternal effects may influence a range of seed traits simultaneously and are likely to be context-dependent. Disentangling the interactions of plant phenotype and growth environment on various seed traits is important for understanding regeneration and establishment of species in natural environments. Here, we used the seed-dimorphic plant Suaeda aralocaspica to test the hypothesis that seed traits are regulated by multiple maternal effects.
RESULTS: Plants grown from brown seeds had a higher brown:black seed ratio than plants from black seeds, and germination percentage of brown seeds was higher than that of black seeds under all conditions tested. However, the coefficient …

Kesmas
Anjuran World Health Organization (WHO) agar ibu menyusui minimal selama 6 bulan masih belum tercapai.
