Roles And Responsibilities Of Nonprofit Boards: The Peace Case, Patrick Kennelly Oct 2012

Roles And Responsibilities Of Nonprofit Boards: The Peace Case, Patrick Kennelly

Professional Projects

This exploratory study identifies the levels of importance and fulfillment of board roles and responsibilities by nonprofit peacemaking organization board members and executive directors. It suggests a three-component framework for understanding board governance. By employing purposive non-probability sampling, this study used board governance instruments, developed by Inglis, Alexander, and Weaver’s (1999), to identify a three-component framework: strategic activities, resource planning, and evaluations for nonprofit organizations whose mission is peacemaking. It examines the relevance of the framework suggested by Inglis, Alexander, and Weaver’s (1999) for nonprofit peacemaking organizations. The results of this study can be used by nonprofit peacemaking organizations to …

A Positive Approach: Training Coaches To Build A Positive Motivational Climate, J. Spencer John Oct 2012

A Positive Approach: Training Coaches To Build A Positive Motivational Climate, J. Spencer John

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

The purpose of this paper is to develop a training program for youth sport coaches focusing on a positive motivational climate, with an intended outcome to increase intrinsic motivation in youth sport participants. The coaching workshops that are available today tend to focus on teaching the fundamentals of the sport; while largely ignoring the motivational side of coaching. Pop Warner Football is the largest youth football league in the country, they have a large coach training program that focuses on drills and skill development, but fails to address positive motivation. Providing youth sport organizations with a training program that adds …

A Social Media Plan For The Ultimate Fighting Championship, Matthew Radmanovich Oct 2012

A Social Media Plan For The Ultimate Fighting Championship, Matthew Radmanovich

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Social media has revolutionized marketing and communication and has changed the way many organizations do business. In sports, it has facilitated fans getting closer to the action while allowing management to be strategic and more efficient with finite amount of resources. It has allowed sports to get in the business of “relationship marketing” (Gronroos, 2004). That is, when a game ends or a season comes to a close, social media allows for the fostering of long term relationships and continues to build a sense of community. The marriage of social media and relationship marketing cannot be overlooked. Whereas 30 years …

Process Evaluation Examining The Implementation Of A Sport-Based Positive Youth Development Program, Tarkington Newman, Leeann Lower-Hoppe, Dawn Anderson-Butcher, Lauren Paluta

Journal of Youth Development

This study examined perceived staff implementation of program elements related to key programmatic design features of a community sport-based positive youth development (PYD) program for socially vulnerable youth. Previous research supports the ability of sport-based PYD programs to promote positive developmental outcomes, such as life skills. However, much remains unclear about the processes and factors that contribute to such outcomes. Specifically, there is a lack of understanding related to the implementation of key programmatic design features. Over the course of a 4-week sport-based PYD program, data were collected from 54 staff members at 60 time points. The degree of implementation …

Recommendations For Online Training In Hospitality Organizations, Geoffrey L. Wellen Oct 2012

Recommendations For Online Training In Hospitality Organizations, Geoffrey L. Wellen

UNLV Theses, Dissertations, Professional Papers, and Capstones

Delivering consistent customer experiences is often a key driver of customer satisfaction in the leisure and hospitality industry. However, consistency can be compromised if new and existing employees are not adequately prepared for their roles and duties. The leisure and hospitality industry hires many new staff each year due to general industry growth and employee turnover. Training and development is therefore important for the industry to meet staffing requirements and to deliver consistent customer experiences. The rapid and significant developments in online training and education since mid 1990 have increased the size and knowledge of the candidate pool available to …

Psychographic Segmentation In A Unique Service Industry: A Typology Based On Consumers’ Levels Of Consumption Of Live And Media-Based Spectator Sports, Tammy Mccullough, Sam Fullerton Oct 2012

Psychographic Segmentation In A Unique Service Industry: A Typology Based On Consumers’ Levels Of Consumption Of Live And Media-Based Spectator Sports, Tammy Mccullough, Sam Fullerton

Journal of Applied Marketing Theory

The purposes of this study were twofold. First a typology for the categorization of consumers of spectator sports based solely upon their levels of consumption as members of both the live and the media-based audiences was developed. The four segments were given names based upon the individuals’ levels of consumption as members of both of the two alternative audiences. Specifically, the resulting segments comprised the sports-immersed fans, venue-based enthusiasts, media-based fans, and sports contrarians. Subjects also responded to a set of 34 sports-oriented psychographic statements which allowed for lifestyle-based profiles to be developed for each of the four designated segments. …

The Israeli Defense Forces In The 21st Century: Humanitarian Complier Or Human Rights Violators? An Assessment Of Ihl Compliance In The Second Lebanon War And Operation Cast Lead, Skyler Scoggan

Independent Study Project (ISP) Collection

My reasons behind writing this paper are very personal and its conclusion will have a direct impact on my future. I am Jewish by blood and have always have had a strong connection with the tradition even though I do not consider myself religious. I have respected more so the traditions and culture that have come from the faith of my mother. The fact that my grandfather, great grandfather, and the dozen more before him, carried on these same rituals that I carry out on Shabbat or on the high holidays, is beyond the realm of being special. Many cannot …

Scabs In Seattle, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

It took all of three weeks but the excrement has finally hit the fan. It is not the end of the world, but it is the end of any further claims that the scabs impersonating NFL referees are competent. If they were competent they would already have been NFL referees and therefore would be locked out by the NFL.
