Penerapan Komunikasi, Informasi, Dan Edukasi Gizi Terhadap Perilaku Sarapan Siswa Sekolah Dasar, Ratu Ayu Dewi Sartika
Kesmas

Validitas Lingkar Lengan Atas Mendeteksi Risiko Kekurangan Energi Kronis Pada Wanita Indonesia, Diny Eva Ariyani, Endang Laksmining Achadi, Anies Irawati
Kesmas

Faculty Publications
The horn fly, Haematobia irritans, is one of the most economically important pests of cattle. Insecticides have been a major element of horn fly management programs. Growing concerns with insecticide resistance, insecticide residues on farm products, and non-availability of new generation insecticides, are serious issues for the livestock industry. Alternative horn fly control methods offer the promise to decrease the use of insecticides and reduce the amount of insecticide residues on livestock products and give an impetus to the organic livestock farming segment. The horn fly, an obligatory blood feeder, requires the help of microflora to supply additional nutrients and …

Weight Gain, Metabolic Syndrome, And Breast Cancer Recurrence: Are Dietary Recommendations Supported By The Data?, Colin E Champ, Jeff S Volek, Joshua Siglin, Lianjin Jin, Nicole L Simone
Department of Radiation Oncology Faculty Papers
Metabolic syndrome, which can include weight gain and central obesity, elevated serum insulin and glucose, and insulin resistance, has been strongly associated with breast cancer recurrence and worse outcomes after treatment. Epidemiologic and prospective data do not show conclusive evidence as to which dietary factors may be responsible for these results. Current strategies employ low-fat diets which emphasize supplementing calories with increased intake of fruit, grain, and vegetable carbohydrate sources. Although results thus far have been inconclusive, recent randomized trials employing markedly different dietary strategies in noncancer patients may hold the key to reducing multiple risk factors in metabolic syndrome …

Genome-Wide Selection For Tropical Maize Root Traits Under Conditions Of Nitrogen And Phosphorus Stress, Roberto Fritsche-Neto, Julio César Dovale, Éder Cristian Malta De Lanes, Marcos Deon Vilela De Resende, Glauco Viera Miranda
Faculty Publications
The objective of this study was to verify the accuracy of the Genome-Wide Selection (GWS) method in tropical maize breeding for root traits under conditions of nitrogen and phosphorus stress. Forty-one single-crosses were evaluated in two experiments. The first experiment considered low nitrogen availability, and the second experiment considered low phosphorus availability. A randomized block design with two replicates was used. The lateral and axial root lengths were measured using WinRhizo software. The analysis of deviance was calculated using the Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (REML/BLUP) method. Eighty microsatellite markers were used to genotype the estimation population. The Random …

Individualism In Education Reform, Collin Scott Bertram
Individualism In Education Reform, Collin Scott Bertram
Master's Theses and Doctoral Dissertations
Current education reform in the U.S. is based upon a business model with capitalist market principles. High stakes standardized testing is a tool that the business model reformers use to dismantle democracy while creating an environment where a democratic society will not thrive. One of the reasons that business-minded reformers are so successful in promoting their agenda is that our society is highly individualistic. The individualistic nature of society in the U.S. provides fertile ground for reform that not only harms our present vestiges of democracy but also endangers the possibility of a democratic society for future generations. A critical …

Strategies To Improve Health Coverage And Narrow The Equity Gap In Child Survival, Health, And Nutrition, Mickey Chopra
Strategies To Improve Health Coverage And Narrow The Equity Gap In Child Survival, Health, And Nutrition, Mickey Chopra
Aboriginal Policy Research Consortium International (APRCi)
Implementation of innovative strategies to improve coverage of evidence-based interventions, especially in the most marginalised populations, is a key focus of policy makers and planners aiming to improve child survival, health, and nutrition. We present a three-step approach to improvement of the effective coverage of essential interventions. First, we identify four different intervention delivery channels—ie, clinical or curative, outreach, community-based preventive or promotional, and legislative or mass media. Second, we classify which interventions’ deliveries can be improved or changed within their channel or by switching to another channel. Finally, we do a meta-review of both published and unpublished reviews to …

Over Sixteen Million Children In Poverty In 2011, Marybeth J. Mattingly, Jessica A. Bean, Andrew P. Schaefer
Carsey Publications
In this brief, authors Marybeth Mattingly, Jessica Bean, and Andrew Schaefer use American Community Survey data released on September 20, 2012 to address patterns of child poverty. To evaluate the changes in child poverty, they focused on two time periods -- change since 2007, as the nation entered the recession, and change since 2010. According to the American Community Survey, the overall child poverty rate for the United States rose slightly from 21.6 in 2010 to 22.5 percent in 2011, resulting in an estimated 16.4 million children living in poverty. Of these children, 6.1 million are young (under age 6). …
