Dissolved cobalt (dCo), iron (dFe) and aluminum (dAl) were determined in water column samples along a meridional transect (∼31°N to 24°N) south of Bermuda in June 2008. A general north-to-south increase in surface concentrations of dFe (0.3-1.6 nM) and dAl (14-42 nM) was observed, suggesting that aerosol deposition is a significant source of dFe and dAl, whereas no clear trend was observed. for near-surface dCo concentrations. Shipboard aerosol samples indicate fractional solubility values of 8-100% for aerosol Co, which are significantly higher than corresponding estimates of the solubility of aerosol Fe (0.44-45%). Hydrographic observations and analysis of time series rain …

Theory Of Adsorption Equilibria Analysis Based On General Equilibrium Constant Expression, Abdul Sattar Ali Khan
Turkish Journal of Chemistry
Adsorption equilibria were analyzed on the basis of general equilibrium constant expression for the development of fundamental adsorption equations (Freundlich, Langmuir, and BET) in connection with the establishment of a general approach towards physical interpretations of adsorption parameters. Theoretically it was proved that Freundlich plot analysis cannot be used to find useful parameters such as the monolayer adsorption capacity of an adsorbent. The present theory also indicated that the adsorption process with known value of monolayer adsorption capacity can be studied for finding various equilibrium constants on the basis of the Fronaeus equation, which is commonly used in the complexation …

Turkish Journal of Chemistry
A novel Zn phthalocyanine bearing 4 salicylideniminophenyloxy substituents on peripheral positions was synthesized from the reaction of 4-aminophenoxy substituted phthalocyanine and salicylaldehyde. The condensation reaction of salicylidene Schiff base groups and benzeneboronic acid produced a new phthalocyanine carrying benzeneboronic acid ester derivatives as substituents. Ethoxy groups were bound to boronic acid as a second ligand. The presence of B-N bond interactions enhanced the stability of this boronated phthalocyanine derivative, which exhibited sufficient air stability during the purification and characterization processes. The novel compounds were characterized by using elemental analysis, IR, ^1H-NMR, ^{11}B-NMR, ^{13}C-NMR, UV-Vis and MALDI-TOF MS spectral data.

Treatment of dye pollution containing C.I. Acid Red 14 (AR14) by a coupled photocatalytic process was studied. Titanium dioxide, in the form of anatase and rutile, and zinc oxide, were used as photocatalysts. The investigated photocatalysts were Aldrich-produced nanopowders with crystallites of a mean size of 20-30 nm and a specific surface area of about 50 m^2/g. A comparison of TiO_{2(anatase)}, TiO_{2(rutile)}, TiO_{2(a,r)}, and ZnO for the decolorization of the AR14 solution was performed. Results showed that color removal followed the decreasing order of TiO_{2(a,r)}, ZnO > TiO_{2(a,r)} > TiO_{2(a)}, ZnO > TiO_{2(r)}, ZnO >TiO_{2(a,r)} > TiO_{2(a)} > ZnO > TiO_{2(r)}. Response surface methodology (RSM) was …
