Slammer Time: A Cost-Effective Analysis Of The California State Prison System And Its Impact On Crime, Rebecca P. Manliguis
Scripps Senior Theses
At a time where cutbacks on spending are a huge focal point across all government levels, the prison system, and effectively combating crime, has been intensely focused upon. With the United States having the highest rate of incarceration of any country in the world, the significance of this focus is understandable. Its prison system is much larger compared to that of other nations, and therefore is a high priority for the United States. As stated in The Economist, “No other rich country is nearly as punitive as the Land of the Free.” With such high costs associated with the …

Information Visualization: A Cyber Security Storm Map, Denise Monette Ferebee
Electronic Theses and Dissertations Archive
When a cyber security event occurs, a person has to answer the following questions: what events are happening; where are the events occurring; and how much damage has occurred or will occur. Therefore, this research recommends a cyber security monitoring system that provides correlation of time-series event data, a visual representation of the security events, and gives a predictive forecast of potential events based on known environmental states. The rationale for this comes from the need to have an overall view of security events or storms that are occurring on a network while providing information in reference to severity and …

Absolute Immunity From Civil Liability: Lessons For Litigation Lawyers, T. Leigh Anenson
Absolute Immunity From Civil Liability: Lessons For Litigation Lawyers, T. Leigh Anenson
Pepperdine Law Review
The common law doctrine of absolute immunity provided to litigation lawyers is said to be "as old as law." This centuries-old doctrine protects litigators from lawsuits instigated by the adversaries of their clients. It is typically invoked, irrespective of any nefarious or malicious motives, so long as the course of action taken bears some reasonable relation to the lawsuit. This Article examines the historical antecedents of the litigation privilege as well as the policies motivating its creation. It also provides a comprehensive description of the doctrine of absolute immunity, explores the circumstances in which it has been applied, and discusses …

Disability Determination Services And The State Of Michigan Media Project, Eric Hartstein
Honors Theses
I designed two informational brochures as part of a media project for both the State of Michigan Internship Program (SoMIP) and Disability Determination Services (DDS), which were both host agencies for my student internship during the spring 2012 semester. The purpose of the project is to raise awareness about the programs among college students, as well as to recruit talented students to become future interns for either of the programs. I chose this project because I felt that brochures would be a simple and effective way to distribute information regarding the programs across campuses statewide. I corresponded with both WMU …

Penn State Journal of Law & International Affairs (2012 - Present)
This article examines the growing need for online dispute resolution (ODR). It traces the birth of the internet, expansion of e-commerce, and the resulting evolution of ODR systems in the past two decades.
