Elementary Principals’ Role In Science Instruction, Patricia Casey, Karen Dunlap, Kristen Brown, Michele Davison
Administrative Issues Journal
This study explores the role elementary school principals play in science education. Specifically, the study employed an online survey of 16 elementary school principals at high-performing campuses in North Texas to explore their perceptions of how they influenced science education on their campuses. The survey used a combination of Likert-type rating scale items and open-ended questions. Responses from elementary principals suggest that the important components of instructional leadership for science included a) collaboration with teachers, b) changing teaching assignments, and c) teacher motivation.

Computational Model Of Neuron-Astrocyte Interputational Model Of Neuron-Astrocyte Interactions During Focal Seizure Generationactions During Focal Seizure Generation, Davide Reato, Mario Cammarota, Lucas C. Parra, Giorgio Carmignoto
Publications and Research
Empirical research in the last decade revealed that astrocytes can respond to neurotransmitters with Ca2+ elevations and generate feedback signals to neurons which modulate synaptic transmission and neuronal excitability. This discovery changed our basic understanding of brain function and provided new perspectives for how astrocytes can participate not only to information processing, but also to the genesis of brain disorders, such as epilepsy. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures that can arise focally at restricted areas and propagate throughout the brain. Studies in brain slice models suggest that astrocytes contribute to epileptiform activity by increasing neuronal excitability …

Crisis managers are constantly striving to find the best media outlets to reach the public in the event of a crisis or emergency and still maintain good public reputation. This researcher uses the food industry to examine the impact social media is having on the way the public is gathering news. This researcher will also study generational divides and how news gathering preferences differ among generational groups. This study also investigates the impact social media use has on organizational reputation in a crisis. Corruption And Human Rights: Exploring The Relationships, Berihun Adugna Gebeye
Corruption And Human Rights: Exploring The Relationships, Berihun Adugna Gebeye
Human Rights & Human Welfare
Corruption is a global phenomenon which every society faces though its degree of severity varies from country to country. Despite its long history, there is no single universally agreed upon definition of corruption. Moreover, its causes, forms and impacts are diverse and multi-faceted. Understanding corruption by itself is a complex undertaking. However, it is agreed that corruption is inimical to public administration, undermines democracy, degrades the moral fabrics of the society and violates human rights. The pain of corruption touches all the human family but it disproportionately affects the vulnerable sections of the society. It reinforces discrimination, exclusion and arbitrariness. …

Ranking Puts Gwu In Top Two Percent In U.S. For Core Curriculum Requirements, Office Of University Communications
Gardner-Webb NewsCenter Archive
An annual study on core curriculum requirements at over 1,000 colleges and universities from all over the United States has placed Gardner-Webb University at the head of the class for the second year in a row. The University was among only 21 colleges—and the only school in the Carolinas—to earn an “A.” The 2012-2013 What Will They Learn? study, conducted by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA), ranks the core curriculum of all the major public and private colleges and universities in all 50 states.

Tributyltin And Dibutyltin Alter Secretion Of Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha From Human Natural Killer Cells And A Mixture Of T Cells And Natural Killer Cells, Kelsi Hurt, Tasia Hurd-Brown, Margaret Whalen
Chemistry Faculty Research
Butyltins (BTs) have been in widespread use. Tributyltin (TBT) has been used as a biocide in a variety of applications and is found in human blood samples. Dibutyltin (DBT) has been used as a stabilizer in polyvinyl chloride plastics and as a de-worming agent in poultry. DBT, like TBT, is found in human blood. Human natural killer (NK) cells are the earliest defense against tumors and viral infections and secrete the cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). TNF-α is an important regulator of adaptive and innate immune responses. TNF-α promotes inflammation and an association between malignant transformation and inflammation has been …
