Integrating Alternative Energy Production Into The Public School Science Curriculum, Benjamin Overbeek
Integrating Alternative Energy Production Into The Public School Science Curriculum, Benjamin Overbeek
Honors Theses
In the next few years, many teachers will be challenged in new ways. Student engagement will be at a premium and state standards will be more specific, shifting their focus towards college readiness, integration of curriculum, and developing sound reasoning and critical thinking skills. While the education field is accustomed to adapting and adjusting “on the go”, it may be ill-prepared for this fresh round of changes. Teachers and curriculum directors need resources to help them adapt the classrooms to reflect the more comprehensive design implied by the new standards (Next Generation Science Standards, 2012). This paper promotes a spiral …

A Comparison Of Customised And Prefabricated Insoles To Reduce Risk Factors For Neuropathic Diabetic Foot Ulceration: A Participant-Blinded Randomised Controlled Trial., Joanne S. Paton, Elizabeth A. Stenhouse, Graham Bruce, Daniel Zahra, Ray B. Jones
School of Health Professions
BACKGROUND: Neuropathic diabetic foot ulceration may be prevented if the mechanical stress transmitted to the plantar tissues is reduced. Insole therapy is one practical method commonly used to reduce plantar loads and ulceration risk. The type of insole best suited to achieve this is unknown. This trial compared custom-made functional insoles with prefabricated insoles to reduce risk factors for ulceration of neuropathic diabetic feet. METHOD: A participant-blinded randomised controlled trial recruited 119 neuropathic participants with diabetes who were randomly allocated to custom-made functional or prefabricated insoles. Data were collected at issue and six month follow-up using the F-scan in-shoe pressure …

Positively Deviant Organizational Performance And The Role Of Leadership Values, Kim S. Cameron
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
Cameron cites the infusion of collaborative values and restructuring of relationships as a primary reason for the successful clean up and closure of Rocky Flats, one of U.S.’s most hazardous and controversial toxic dumps. Success was contingent upon mutual trust and respect of and between traditionally adversarial groups by adopting a mutual proactive, sharing orientation and empathetic attitudes. The true leaders in this venture shifted from a profit-first stance to changing organizational culture, ensuring that individuals (especially leaders and influencers) pursued an abundance-based vision.

Turn Your Values Into Value, Mark S. Albion

Business is about the creation of values. The quintessential bottom line is not so much monetarily defined as it is related to heart and passion and making a unique contribution to the world. In this article, Albion debunks well-rooted myths of the development and placement of business values by stressing the importance of engaging people and migrating toward – not away from – one’s own values.

Plant Tour And Meeting With Members Of Interface’S Sustainability Team: December 16, 2009
Plant Tour And Meeting With Members Of Interface’S Sustainability Team: December 16, 2009
The Journal of Values-Based Leadership
Simply stated, business does not work without the infusion of ethics. While “ethics” can be interpreted in a relative manner, there is no dispute within the scientific community as to the deleterious effects of unrestricted manufacturing processes and the role of environmental factors in generating health crises. The “cradle to grave” designation ― once descriptive of wasteful industrial practices ― is capable of evolving into a “cradle to cradle” approach, triggering a newfound common sense thinking demonstrated by both producers and consumers alike. The Interface experience is demonstrating this evolutionary process.

Collegiality, Agency And Grievance Resolution: L'Universite Du Quebec A Trois Rivieres, L. M. Farrell
Journal of Collective Bargaining in the Academy
In recent years the traditional collegial model of university management has been challenged by the rapid growth of higher education, a renewed emphasis on competition, and an increase in external demands for accountability, especially with regard to funding, quality control and research assessment. This transformation has been applauded by some because it is widely believed that the movement to hierarchical control and the rise of the academic manager would contribute to a reduction in agency costs and the costs of moral hazard occuring in the form of opportunism by those who simulate commitment to the moral values of the university …
