Educational Policy Strategy Under The Papua Special Autonomy Framework, Akbar Silo Apr 2012

Educational Policy Strategy Under The Papua Special Autonomy Framework, Akbar Silo

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

An appropriate policy design is a crucial factor in improving the efficiency of education service. The design is influenced by the significant implementation of education strategies, to which the dimensions of organizational environment, organizational values, and organizational resources contribute. In the case of Jayapura Regency, the dimension that predominantly affects the education service efficiency is the organizational resources, whilst the organizational environment is the least influential. The small influence from the organizational environment results from a strong tendency to disregard the importance of politics, geography, demography, and the potential of natural resources as a dimension of the external environment. Moreover, …

Policies In Village Development: Learning From Community Empowerment And Participation In Jayapura, Agustinus Fatem

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

Community empowerment has ample opportunity for accomplishment in the decentralization era and through the implementation of regional and special autonomy in Papua. This research analyzes the influence of community empowerment on community participation in village development in the Jayapura Regency and establishes a model for community empowerment and participation in regional development, using the quantitative approach. Primary data is collected from respondents through questionnaires, interview guides, and on-site observation. Respondents are chosen using the cluster sampling technique (with two or more respondents) to determine sample areas (districts and villages), and respondents from sample villages are chosen using the proportional random …

Central Government’S Roles In New Autonomous Region Development In Bandung Barat, Irawan Setiawan Apr 2012

Central Government’S Roles In New Autonomous Region Development In Bandung Barat, Irawan Setiawan

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

This research discusses the effectiveness of placing Ngamprah sub-district as the capital city of Bandung Barat District, using qualitative approach and central place theory which covers the center of administration and center of growth dimensions. The conclusion is that the center of administration and the center of growth dimensions analysis have not shown the effectiveness of Ngamprah sub-district as the Capital City of Bandung Barat District. Our recommendation is for the local government to construct railroads to tie other sub-districts to Ngamprah, i. e. the roads linking Cisarua and Ngamprah, both from Jambudipa and Cipada, to establish Ngamprah Market to …

A Multilevel Analysis Of Institutional Fiscal Autonomy And Its Effect On Affordability, Operating Efficiency, And Minority Access At Public Colleges And Universities, Christine J. Glass Apr 2012

A Multilevel Analysis Of Institutional Fiscal Autonomy And Its Effect On Affordability, Operating Efficiency, And Minority Access At Public Colleges And Universities, Christine J. Glass

USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations

In recent years, an unstable funding environment for state higher education systems has led to a trend of increasing institutional fiscal autonomy in exchange for reductions in appropriations. With the growing concern that reducing state oversight will result in increased tuition and spending levels, this study was designed to provide a clearer understanding of how fiscal autonomy at public institutions impacts measures important to the state public policy goals of affordability, operating efficiency, and access. To accommodate the diversity and hierarchical structure of public institutions, this study used multilevel modeling techniques to integrate complex, interrelated institution- and state-level data. Institution-level …

Training The Next Generation Of Transportation Professionals In Geographic Data Collection, Spatial Analysis And Customer Information, Uma Shama, Lawrence J. Harman

Mathematics Faculty Publications

Applying advanced technology for transportation research and management has been the focus of Bridgewater State’s GeoGraphics Laboratory since 1994. The laboratory has attracted a broad range of students from many academic disciplines and walks of life to engage in leading edge applications of innovative hardware and software to meet the needs of our transportation systems. The GeoGraphics Lab has provided a laboratory experience for nearly two decades. Geographic technology has changed dramatically over this time. The availability of global positioning systems (GPS) on cell phones is nearly ubiquitous. The increased power and reduced cost of desktop geographic information systems (GIS) …

Critical Reflections On Experiential Learning For Food Justice, Leslie C. Gray, Joanna Johnson, Nicole Latham, Michelle Tang, Ann Thomas Apr 2012

Critical Reflections On Experiential Learning For Food Justice, Leslie C. Gray, Joanna Johnson, Nicole Latham, Michelle Tang, Ann Thomas

Environmental Studies and Sciences

This essay will reflect on Santa Clara University's (SCU) forays into experiential learning around food justice through the Bronco Urban Gardens (BUG) program. BUG works with urban schools and a community center in San José, California, using a garden-based education approach. This program emerged out of our student garden, The Forge. University student farms and gardens provide opportunities for students to learn how to grow, manage, and market food. At Santa Clara University, our half-acre (0.2 hectare) garden plays that role. However, because of our institution's commitment to social justice and a strong network of community partners, our campus garden …

Parasites From Human Coprolites From Mexico Zoonotic And Human Parasites Of Inhabitants Of Cueva De Los Muertos Chiquitos, Rio Zape Valley, Durango, Mexico., F Agustín Jiménez, Scott L Gardner, Adauto Araújo, Martín Fugassa, Richard H Brooks, Elizabeth Racz, Karl Reinhard

Publications

We present the first reconstruction of the parasitoses among the people of the Loma San Gabriel culture, as represented by 36 coprolites excavated from the Cueva de los Muertos Chiquitos in Durango, Mexico. The coprolites date to approximately 1,400-yr-ago. Species identified based on eggs recovered include the trematode Echinostoma sp., the tapeworms Hymenolepis sp. and Dipylidium caninum, and the nematodes Ancylostoma duodenale, Enterobius vermicularis, and Trichuris trichiura. After rehydration and screening, 2 methods were used to recover eggs from these samples including spontaneous sedimentation and flotation. Samples were analyzed by 3 different laboratories for independent verification …

Contracted Job Development In Rural Communities: Vr Agency Perspectives, Catherine Ipsen, University Of Montana Rural Institute Apr 2012

Contracted Job Development In Rural Communities: Vr Agency Perspectives, Catherine Ipsen, University Of Montana Rural Institute

Employment

Legislation guiding VR service delivery provides flexibility regarding how services are organized and implemented. As a result, state VR agencies provide services in the context on their own resource parameters (e.g. budget and agency size) and geography. This natural variation allows for a variety of service delivery models to emerge, each with associated benefits and drawback. To date, however, there is little comparative evidence for evaluating rural service delivery practices. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted 82 qualitative interviews with VR informants from 48 state VR agencies including 17 general agencies, 12 blind/low vision agencies, and 19 combined agencies. …
