Fluoroquinolone And Macrolide Co-Resistance In Clinical Isolates Of Campylobacter Species: A 15-Year Study In Karachi, Pakistan, Seema Irfan, A Ahmad, D Guhar, E Khan, Fasial Malik, Syed Mahmood, Afia Zafar
Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Fluoroquinolone and macrolide antibiotics are generally considered as first-line drugs for the treatment of severe campylobacteriosis. This study was conducted to analyse the trend of erythromycin and ofloxacin resistance among Campylobacter spp. isolated from stool specimens over a period of 15 years (1992-2007) at The Aga Khan University clinical laboratory in Karachi, Pakistan. A total of 83 396 stool specimens were processed, with a 14% isolation rate for enteric pathogens. The isolation rate of Campylobacter spp. was low during 1992-93 (6%-13%), peaked in 1996 (46%), then ranged from 20% to 40%. We report a rising trend in ofloxacin resistance, re-emergence …

A Proposed Formula For Comparing Kill Password Effectiveness In Single Password Rfid Systems, Christopher Bolan
A Proposed Formula For Comparing Kill Password Effectiveness In Single Password Rfid Systems, Christopher Bolan
Australian Information Security Management Conference
The Electronic Product Code standard for RFID systems plays a significant role in worldwide RFID implementations. A feature of the RFID standards has been the RFID Kill command which allows for the "permanent" destruction of an RFID tag through the issuing of a simple command. Whilst the inclusion of this command may be vital for user privacy it also opens up significant avenues for attack. Whilst such attacks may be well documented there has been little to no discussion of the efficacy of the differing mitigation approaches taken. A simple formula to calculate the full timing of such an attack …

Representing Variable Source Credibility In Intelligence Analysis With Bayesian Networks, Ken Mcnaught, Peter Sutovsky
Representing Variable Source Credibility In Intelligence Analysis With Bayesian Networks, Ken Mcnaught, Peter Sutovsky
Australian Security and Intelligence Conference
Assessing the credibility of an evidential source is an important part of intelligence analysis, particularly where human intelligence is concerned. Furthermore, it is frequently necessary to combine multiple items of evidence with varying source credibilities. Bayesian networks provide a powerful probabilistic approach to the fusion of information and are increasingly being applied in a wide variety of settings. In this paper we explore their application to intelligence analysis and provide a simple example concerning a potential attack on an infrastructure target. Our main focus is on the representation of source credibility. While we do not advocate the routine use of …
Harms: Hierarchical Attack Representation Models For Network Security Analysis, Jin Hong, Dong-Seong Kim
Harms: Hierarchical Attack Representation Models For Network Security Analysis, Jin Hong, Dong-Seong Kim
Australian Information Security Management Conference
Attack models can be used to assess network security. Purely graph based attack representation models (e.g., attack graphs) have a state-space explosion problem. Purely tree-based models (e.g., attack trees) cannot capture the path information explicitly. Moreover, the complex relationship between the host and the vulnerability information in attack models create difficulty in adjusting to changes in the network, which is impractical for modern large and dynamic network systems. To deal with these issues, we propose hierarchical attack representation models (HARMs). The main idea is to use two-layer hierarchy to separate the network topology information (in the upper layer) from the …

The Reception, Incorporation And Employment Of Informatin Operations By The Australia Defence Force: 1990-2012, Jeff Malone
The Reception, Incorporation And Employment Of Informatin Operations By The Australia Defence Force: 1990-2012, Jeff Malone
Australian Information Warfare and Security Conference
The paper investigates the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) approach – understood here as the reception, incorporation and operational employment – to military information operations (IO), from 1990 to 2012. The paper identifies key characteristics of the ADF’s approach to IO, and proposes explanatory factors to account for the specific form the ADF’s approach to IO has been manifested. The paper concludes with predictions regarding the future form of IO within the ADF, in the context of the increasing significance of social media, the upcoming 2013 Defence White Paper (WP13) and the US ‘pivot’ to the Asia-Pacific region. The paper is …

The 2012 Analysis Of Information Remaining On Computer Hard Disks Offered For Sale On The Second Hand Market In The Uae, Andy Jones, Thomas Martin, Mohammed Alzaabi
Australian Digital Forensics Conference
The growth in the use of computers in all aspects of our lives has continued to increase to the point where desktop, laptop, netbook or tablet computers are now almost essential in the way that we communicate and work. As a result of this, and the fact that these devices have a limited lifespan, enormous numbers of computers are being disposed of at the end of their useful life by individuals or/and organisations. As the cost of computing has reduced, the level of ‘consumerisation’ has increased together with the requirement for mobility. This has led to an increasing use of …
A Behavioral Analysis Of Counselor Supervision: A Multiple Baseline Design, Deirdre J. Walker
A Behavioral Analysis Of Counselor Supervision: A Multiple Baseline Design, Deirdre J. Walker
Dissertations
This paper consists of a concurrent multiple baseline across participants study that measured the effects of behavior analytic techniques to teach three counselor trainees basic counseling skills. The literature surrounding the development of basic counseling skills is reviewed in addition to the use of single case designs in counseling and counselor supervision. The literature surrounding combining behavior analysis and counseling research methodologies is also examined. Results indicated that a behavior analytic approach to basic skills training was an effective means for increasing targeted basic counseling skills. The supervisory working alliance between the principal investigator and all participants was measured and …

Process Construct In The Virtual R&D Teams, N. Ale Ebrahim, S. Ahmed, S.H. Abdul Rashid, Z. Taha, M. Mohammadjafari
Research Publications (2011 to 2015)
literature proves the importance of the process role in the effectiveness of virtual research and development (R&D) teams for new product development (NPD). However, the factors that make process construct in a virtual R&D team are still unclear. The manager of virtual R&D teams for NPD does not know which items of process should be used. To address the gap and answer the question, the study presents a set of factors that make a process construct. The proposed construct modified by finding of the field survey. We empirically examine the relationship between construct, dimensions and its factors by employing the …
Block-Scoped Access Restriction Technique For Html Content In Web Browsers, Timothy Watt
Block-Scoped Access Restriction Technique For Html Content In Web Browsers, Timothy Watt
Theses
Web sites, web browsers, web site authors, web component authors, and end users interact in a complicated environment with many recognized and unrecognized trust relationships. The web browser is the arena in which many important trust relationships interact, thus it bears a considerable burden in protecting the interests and security of web end users as well as web site authors. Existing proposals, draft standards, implemented features, and web application techniques go a long way towards allowing rich and compelling content interactions, but they do not provide for rich, mutually-distrusting content to be safely embedded in a single page. This proposal …
