1-Deoxy-D-Xylulose-5-Phosphate Synthase (Dxs) Mechanistic Study And Its Implication In The Development Of Novel Antibiotics And Antimalarials, Sumit Handa
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
Isoprenoids are the largest family of biologically active compounds, synthesized by five carbon subunits namely isopentenyl pyrophosphate (IPP) and dimethylallyl pyrophosphate (DMAPP). For long time the mevalonate-dependent (MVA) pathway has been considered as the sole source of IPP and DMAPP, until recently a new non-mevalonte dependent (NMVA) pathway was discovered. This new pathway utilizes entirely different set of enzymes for isoprenoids synthesis and don't have any homologues in humans. NMVA pathway is the only source of isoprenoids for certain eubacteria, parasite and plants. Absence of the NMVA pathway in higher organisms has opened a new platform for the development of …

From Either/Or To Both/And: Between The Traditional And The Modern, Sam Pack
From Either/Or To Both/And: Between The Traditional And The Modern, Sam Pack
Journal of Indigenous Research
For native populations colonized and forcibly assimilated into the mainstream, the transformation is never complete because they remain trapped in perpetual liminality between the traditional and the modern. The resulting toll in human suffering and degradation has become commonplace, as attested by the high rates of alcoholism and violence on American Indian reservations. Yet Indians have still managed to survive, often by using their brand of humor as a weapon. Increasingly, younger generations of Native Americans are finding that it is possible to balance acculturation with cultural preservation. Navajos, in particular, have been credited with a unique ability to selectively …
A Craniometric Perspective On The Transition To Agriculture In Europe, Ron Pinhasi, Noreen Von Cramon-Taubadel
A Craniometric Perspective On The Transition To Agriculture In Europe, Ron Pinhasi, Noreen Von Cramon-Taubadel
Human Biology
Debates surrounding the nature of the Neolithic demographic transition in Europe have historically centered on two opposing models: a "demic" diffusion model whereby incoming farmers from the Near East and Anatolia effectively replaced or completely assimilated indigenous Mesolithic foraging communities, and an "indigenist" model resting on the assumption that ideas relating to agriculture and animal domestication diffused from the Near East but with little or no gene flow. The extreme versions of these dichotomous models were heavily contested primarily on the basis of archeological and modern genetic data. However, in recent years a growing acceptance has arisen of the likelihood …

Promoting The Integration Of Vocational And Academic Skills Using The Principles Of The Let Me Learn Model: A Case Study Of Transformational Leadership, Debra Ihunnah
Theses and Dissertations
Two educational models, the Let Me Learn Model (TM) and the Integration of Academic and Vocational Skills Model IV were implemented at the Cumberland County Technical School in New Jersey. The purposes of the study were (a) to introduce and enhance the teachers' knowledge about the two educational models (b) to assist teachers in using that knowledge gained from implementation of the models as a catalyst to change their teaching practices and (c) to enhance student learning. This was an action research study that examined the implementation of the two models and examined my transformational leadership skills. The Let Me …

Interrogating Grenadian Masculinities And Violence Against Women: An Evaluation Of The United Nations Partnership For Peace Program, Rohan Dexter Jeremiah
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
This applied anthropology study, guided by a feminist perspective and in particular, Black Feminist Thought is an outgrowth of an evaluation study of the Partnership for Peace Program (PFP) in Grenada, West Indies. The PFP is a Caribbean-specific model that was built into a sixteen-week cycle program by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and Empowerment of Women (UNWomen). Since 2005, the PFP has been geared towards Grenadian men, who have used violence against women to express their masculine identities. PFP focuses exclusively on rehabilitating male perpetrators with a goal to protect the human rights of women. This research …

Intergenerational Transmission Of Reproductive Behavior During The Demographic Transition, Julia Jennings, Allison R. Sullivan, J. David Hacker
Intergenerational Transmission Of Reproductive Behavior During The Demographic Transition, Julia Jennings, Allison R. Sullivan, J. David Hacker
Anthropology Faculty Scholarship
New evidence from the Utah Population Database (updp) reveals that at the onset of the fertility transition, reproductive behavior was transmitted across generations—between women and their mothers, as well as between women and their husbands' family of origin. Age at marriage, age at last birth, and the number of children ever born are positively correlated in the data, most strongly among first-born daughters and among cohorts born later in the fertility transition. Intergenerational ties, including the presence of mothers and mothers-in-law, influenced the hazard of progressing to a next birth. The findings suggest that the practice of parity-dependent marital fertility …

Moose Management And Conserved Areas, Kathryn Lee
Moose Management And Conserved Areas, Kathryn Lee
Atlas of Maine
This map shows the Moose Management areas in relation to roads and conserved areas. In the Recreation Management Area, hunting and usually viewing opportunities were the most important goals. In the Road Safety Area, reducing the number of moose/ vehicle collisions was the only goal. In the Compromise Management Area, the goal was to balance recreation and safety concerns.
Analysis Of East-West Highway In Maine, Kathryn Lee, Anna Hess
Analysis Of East-West Highway In Maine, Kathryn Lee, Anna Hess
Atlas of Maine
A major east-west highway through Maine has been long debated by politicians, private corporations and environmentalists. The proposed highway has the potential to bring increased economic productivity to isolated communities and create more efficient travel routes, but it may also impact the landscape of the northern region of the state. The goal of this project was to estimate the proposed route of the highway and develop a simple model to estimate its relationship with elevation and land cover types.

Publications
We present the first reconstruction of the parasitoses among the people of the Loma San Gabriel culture, as represented by 36 coprolites excavated from the Cueva de los Muertos Chiquitos in Durango, Mexico. The coprolites date to approximately 1,400-yr-ago. Species identified based on eggs recovered include the trematode Echinostoma sp., the tapeworms Hymenolepis sp. and Dipylidium caninum, and the nematodes Ancylostoma duodenale, Enterobius vermicularis, and Trichuris trichiura. After rehydration and screening, 2 methods were used to recover eggs from these samples including spontaneous sedimentation and flotation. Samples were analyzed by 3 different laboratories for independent verification …
