香港短篇小說的精神疾病書寫 (1990-2010), Pui Ting Tsang
香港短篇小說的精神疾病書寫 (1990-2010), Pui Ting Tsang
Lingnan Theses

Spatial Relationship, Jeong Ju Lee
Spatial Relationship, Jeong Ju Lee
Theses
My sculptural furniture and jewelry works derive from my interest in the human body and its spatial relationship to surroundings. Inspired by the organic forms from nature with human elements, the furniture presents the interaction between the work and the viewers as it is conceived as both functional and sculptural. The jewelry makes a statement on the body as a wearable sculpture, focusing on the organization of space as well as considering the movement on the human body.

Relaxing Constraints As A Conservation Policy, Ben Groom, Charles Palmer
Relaxing Constraints As A Conservation Policy, Ben Groom, Charles Palmer
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
Eco-entrepreneurs in developing countries are often subject to market or institutional constraints, e.g. via credit rationing or missing markets. Conservation interventions which relax constraints may be both cost-effective and poverty reducing. A simulation using data from an intervention in Madagascar to relax the technological constraints of forest honey production investigates this possibility. Cost-effectively achieving dual environment-development goals is shown to depend on the severity of constraints, relative prices and, importantly, the nature of technology. Success is more likely for technologies exhibiting close to constant returns to scale or high input complementarity. Forest honey does not meet these requirements, whereas sustainable …

Integrating Water Resources Into Computable General Equilibrium Models - A Survey, Roberto Ponce, Francesco Bosello, Carlo Giupponi
Integrating Water Resources Into Computable General Equilibrium Models - A Survey, Roberto Ponce, Francesco Bosello, Carlo Giupponi
Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei Working Papers
Water resources are facing several stresses in terms of quantity and quality. These pressures are closely related to the human interventions in fields like: agriculture, land-use/land use change, construction/management of reservoirs, pollutant emissions, and water /wastewater treatment, among others. Considering the critical role that water plays for agricultural production, any shock in water availability will have great implications for agricultural production, and through agricultural markets these impacts will reach the whole economy with economy-wide consequences. The aim of this report is to present a literature review about the state of the art methodology regarding the study of water issues using …

5d: A Gis-Based Approach For Determining And Displaying The Degree Of Operational Difficulty Of Demining, Pierre Lacroix, Rocío Escobar
The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction
Clearance operations highly depend on environmental, geographic and socioeconomic conditions. These conditions make demining easier, more difficult or nearly impossible. This article proposes an analytical method called 5D (Determining and Displaying the Degree of Operational Difficulty of Demining), which classifies degrees of difficulty as low, medium, high or extreme.

Country Profile: Kenya, Cisr Journal
The Journal of Conventional Weapons Destruction
Kenya is located on the eastern coast of Africa, bordered by Ethiopia, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Although the country is largely unaffected by landmines and unexploded ordnance, the easy accessibility of small arms and light weapons poses a serious threat to national security. These weapons exacerbate regional conflicts and are especially detrimental in pastoral communities.

The Revival Of Reliance And Prospectivity: Chevron Oil In The Immigration Context, Elliot Watson
The Revival Of Reliance And Prospectivity: Chevron Oil In The Immigration Context, Elliot Watson
Seattle University Law Review
Using Duran Gonzales as an example, this Comment discusses how courts determine when and if conflicting rules of law should be applied retroactively to aliens. Specifically, it argues that the holding in Nunez-Reyes and its use of the Chevron Oil test should be applied broadly to limit the retroactive application of law in certain immigration cases. Part II of this Comment gives a brief overview of Supreme Court retroactivity jurisprudence, the discretionary application of adjudicative retroactivity as described in Chevron Oil, and the Court’s recent shift toward a more conservative approach. Part III discusses how administrative law affects that framework …

The Steward, The King, And The Queen: Fealty And Love In Tolkien's The Lord Of The Rings And In Sir Orfeo, Sue Bridgwater
Mythlore: A Journal of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and Mythopoeic Literature
Finds connections between The Lord of the Rings and Tolkien’s long professional engagement with the medieval romance Sir Orfeo. Orfeo’s plot elements of a king’s separation from his queen and his testing of his steward are echoed (albeit in a somewhat fragmented way) and re–examined in the relationships of Aragorn, Arwen, and the house of the Stewards of Gondor.

Pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity is associated with shorter breastfeeding (BF) duration. Whether pre-pregnancy overweight and obesity is associated with other aspects of infant and young child feeding (IYCF) hasnot been investigated. We used data from 370 children born January 1999–September 2001 in a semi-urbancommunity in Morelos, Mexico, where information on how they were fed was available at 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 18 and 24months of age. We modified the World Health Organization’s dietary diversity indicator to assess the quality ofthe complementary foods. An index that included BF, quality of complementary foods and other behaviours wasconstructed to measure IYCF. We …

Characterization Of Cell Proliferation Throughout The Brain Of The African Cichlid Fish Astatotilapia Burtoni And Its Regulation By Social Status, Karen P. Maruska, Russ E. Carpenter, Russell D. Fernald
Faculty Publications
New cells are added in the brains of all adult vertebrates, but fishes have some of the greatest potential for neurogenesis and gliogenesis among all taxa, partly due to their indeterminate growth. Little is known, however, about how social interactions influence cell proliferation in the brain of these fishes that comprise the largest group of vertebrates. We used 5-bromo-2′-deoxyuridine (BrdU) to identify and localize proliferation zones in the telencephalon, diencephalon, mesencephalon, and rhombencephalon that were primarily associated with ventricular surfaces in the brain of the African cichlid fish Astatotilapia burtoni. Cell migration was evident in some regions by 1 day …
Treatment Of Cardiomyopathy With Pap Therapy In A Patient With Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea., Ritu G. Grewal, Md
Treatment Of Cardiomyopathy With Pap Therapy In A Patient With Severe Obstructive Sleep Apnea., Ritu G. Grewal, Md
Department of Sleep Medicine Faculty Papers
Obstructive sleep apnea is common in patients with heart failure. This case illustrates that treatment with PAP therapy can improve cardiac function in patients with both conditions. CPAP-emergent central apnea, as seen in this patient, has multiple etiologies. It is commonly seen in patients with severe sleep apnea, usually resolves over time, and does not need treatment with adaptive servoventilation.

Use Of Real-Time Pcr To Detect Surimi Adulteration In Vegetarian Foods, Ching-Yang Cheng, Yeu-Ching Shi, Sin-Rong Lin, Chi-Chiang Chou, Chin-Cheng Huang
Journal of Marine Science and Technology–Taiwan
Vegetarian foods are abundant in the domestic market. It is found that animal ingredients have been added into vegetarian products to improve the texture and taste. Surimi adulteration in vegetarian food is an area of concern for vegetarians. The α-skeletal actin gene of aquatic animals as novel specific primers and probe of Actinopterygii in 36 fish species are tested using real-time PCR method. It was found that all of the 36 fish species of Actinopterygii showed positive results. The 10 surimi products, 10 surimi-based products containing fish components showed positive results. All of the 10 fresh foods containing no fish …
