The Role Of Supermarkets In Community Nutrition, Staci Gruber

Master of Public Health Program Student Publications

Background: Chronic diseases related to nutrition are a serious threat to public health. Supermarkets offer an important and promising venue to improve diet quality and overall health. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the supermarkets’ community nutrition focus and interest in public health.

Methods: This study emphasis’s a triangulated qualitative study design. It employs various methods and taps various sources for data. Twenty face-to-face, semi-structured key informant interviews were conducted with five full service supermarket chains in Montgomery County, Ohio; Wal-Mart, Kroger, Meijer, Cub Foods, and Dorothy Lane Market. Collaborating With A Killer: The Unique Perspective Of Prison Life From A Man On Death Row, Gordon A. Crews, Angela D. Crews Nov 2011

Collaborating With A Killer: The Unique Perspective Of Prison Life From A Man On Death Row, Gordon A. Crews, Angela D. Crews

Criminal Justice Faculty Publications

This presentation describes the process and difficulties of developing a collaborative working relationship with Stephen C. Stanko, a man currently serving two death sentences in South Carolina for the murders of two people and the sexual assault and attempted murder of a third. Mr. Stanko and Dr. Gordon Crews first worked together on a book from 2000-2004 when Stanko was serving a 10-year sentence for kidnapping and assault with intent to kill. In April 2005, only 8 months after Stanko was released from that sentence, he committed the crimes for which he is currently facing death. Since then, the Crews’ …

Synthesis And Characterizations Of Novel Solid Polymer Electrolytes With Carbon Nanotube As A Filler / Suriani Ibrahim, Ibrahim Suriani Nov 2011

Synthesis And Characterizations Of Novel Solid Polymer Electrolytes With Carbon Nanotube As A Filler / Suriani Ibrahim, Ibrahim Suriani

Student Works (2010-2019)

Nanocomposite solid polymer electrolyte based on poly (ethylene oxide) (PEO) as a host matrix, doped with lithium hexaflurophosphate (LiPF6) salt, plasticized with ethylene carbonate (EC) and dispersed with amorphous carbon nanotubes (αCNTs) as nanocomposite filler were prepared by solution-casting technique. The polymer electrolytes were characterized by Impedance Spectroscopy (IS) to obtain the composition of additives which gives the highest conductivity value for each system. At room temperature, the highest conductivity was found to be 1.30 × 10-3 Scm-1 with a composition of PEO - 20wt% LiPF6 - 15wt%EC and αCNTs - 5wt%. The ionic conductivities of the nanocomposite polymer electrolytes …

Will The Ethanol Sector In Brazil See Major Changes?, Inter-American Dialogue's Latin American Energy Advisor Nov 2011

Will The Ethanol Sector In Brazil See Major Changes?, Inter-American Dialogue's Latin American Energy Advisor

Latin American Energy Dialogue, White Papers and Reports

Brazil's Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA) further decreased its forecast for the 2011- 2012 harvest in the south center region, which is responsible for 90 percent of the country's production. The organization now expects a drop of some 12 percent from the 2010-2011 harvest of 557 million tons. Among the reasons for the fall in output are lower agricultural productivity, unfavorable weather conditions and new diseases and infestations. Is the ethanol sector likely to see similar problems in the future? What role will biofuels play in Brazil's short to medium term energy future? Is the government likely to make any significant …

Insulin Receptor-Mediated Signaling Via Phospholipase C-Γ Regulates Growth And Differentiation In Drosophila, Juan M. Murillo-Maldonado, Fouad Bou Zeineddine, Rachel Stock, Justin Thackeray, Juan R. Riesgo-Escovar Nov 2011

Insulin Receptor-Mediated Signaling Via Phospholipase C-Γ Regulates Growth And Differentiation In Drosophila, Juan M. Murillo-Maldonado, Fouad Bou Zeineddine, Rachel Stock, Justin Thackeray, Juan R. Riesgo-Escovar

Biology

Coordination between growth and patterning/differentiation is critical if appropriate final organ structure and size is to be achieved. Understanding how these two processes are regulated is therefore a fundamental and as yet incompletely answered question. Here we show through genetic analysis that the phospholipase C-γ (PLC-γ) encoded by small wing (sl) acts as such a link between growth and patterning/differentiation by modulating some MAPK outputs once activated by the insulin pathway; particularly, sl promotes growth and suppresses ectopic differentiation in the developing eye and wing, allowing cells to attain a normal size and differentiate properly. sl mutants have previously been …

Copyright For Couture, Loni Schutte Nov 2011

Copyright For Couture, Loni Schutte

Duke Law & Technology Review

Fashion design in America has never been covered by the extensive intellectual property (IP) protections afforded to other categories of creative works or to the art in other countries. As a result, America has become a safe haven for design pirates. Piracy disproportionately harms young designers who do not have established trademarks for their brands and must rely purely on creativity to propel their designs into the market. H.R. 2511 is a bill that aims to extend copyright protection to fashion designs, albeit narrowly. Compared with previous proposals to extend effective IP protection to fashion design, H.R. 2511 is more …

Evaluating The Incremental Validity Of The Mmpi-2-Rc Scales For Custody Litigants, Elizabeth Wheeler Nov 2011

Evaluating The Incremental Validity Of The Mmpi-2-Rc Scales For Custody Litigants, Elizabeth Wheeler

Theses and Dissertations

The use of psychological testing in child custody assessments has become more common and important as psychologists are increasingly used as expert witnesses in contested child custody and visitation cases. Currently, the MMPI-2 is the most commonly used psychological test in child custody cases, but there is no research indicating which version of the measure (K-corrected, non-K-corrected, or the RC scales) provides the most accurate picture of the custody litigant in terms of substantial correlations with external variables. This study represents the first examination of the convergent, discriminant, and incremental validity of the MMPI-2 K-corrected Basic Clinical Scales, the MMPI-2 …
